Personality: He is very cold. He finds normal ponies strange, and doesn't really like magic, for the reason that his species doesn't have unicorns. He is quiet, and often a bit sarcastic, but a good soldier and good leader. Whatever is said about him, everypony agrees he has a good heart.<br /><br />

Backstory: Little Fang was born in colony located deep in the crystal mountains. Due to the hard life style, every pony worked hard and helped to ensure the survival of their colony. Little Fang was no exception. He along with his older brother Dark Wing learned how to use his echo location to find safe caverns and to find food. He learned the signs of an unsafe cave and how to fly fast in tight spaces. He practiced all the things he learned in hopes of gaining is cutie mark, but to no avail. He matured and was renamed from Little Fang to Long Fang. Days turned in to months, which turned in to years, and still no cutie mark.<br /><br />One day, as Long Fang was walking through the colony, he see's a great deal of his brethren are heading in the direction towards the cave that the elders reside. Following them, he and Dark Wing overheard bits and parts of conversations. They learned that a stranger was found in one of the caves and is talking to the elders. Upon reaching the cavern that the leaders hold hearings in, they see a dark pony, not unlike themselves. He confers with Dark Wing, both of them wondering what the fuss is all about. They then notice a few things. One: The stranger is a female. Two: Her coat is much darker then every other ponies. Three: She has wings and a horn. And Four: Her wings are feathered rather then the usual leathery. Later they learn that she is called an alicorn. Her name is princess Luna and she had come to talk about having their kind guard the land during the night, seeing that all other, what she calls normal ponies, are asleep then. She promises to help protect their caves and provide them with food along with a few other things if they agree, which they do.<br /><br />Fast forward a few years, we now see Long Fang in the royal academy, training to become a full fledged member of the Lunar Guard with his older brother. One day, on the practice field, he is sparring with a partner when he hears some shouting and sees a crowd forming. Walking over to the crowd, he sees Luna standing in the middle of a large amount of angry looking pegasi and unicorns. Listening to all the yelling, he finally pieces together that they are angry about the bat-ponies, or "their kind", taking the place of guarding the night. Luna tries to assuage their feelings but only stirs them up more. Seeing things could get violent, Long Fang and Dark Wing step forward to place themselves between Luna and the angry crowd. The crowd, seeing the brothers advance towards them, become angry and a few draw weapons, swords, and attack. Seeing them draw their swords, Long Fang draws his own and faces off against two pegasi, while Dark Wing helps keep two more at bay. Long Fang, during the fight, unwittingly earns himself his cutie mark as he demonstrates his prowess with a sword. After an intense few moments of combat, Luna finally is able to take to the air and stop the fight before it escalates in to a full on battle. Luna then proceeds to commend brothers on their quick thinking and willingness to put themselves in harms way to save another. Impressed by their good nature, Luna tells them that she thinks they would be good role models and would make a good officers of her Lunar Guard. They enthusiastically accepts her proposition but Long Fang is hesitant about one part. He is still unsettled over the whole fight over his kind versus normal pegasi and unicorns and vows to do all he can to make sure nothing like that happens ever again. As part of his vow, he decides to change his name to something ponies would be more comfortable with. He decides to take on the name Paladin. Seeing that the word Paladin means someone who fights to protect others (roughly) Long Fang believes it is a fitting name and vows to do just that.
