BlueBrony

    • Age: Adult

      Gender: Male

      Species: Earth Pony

Cutie Mark: Quikwitt's cutie mark is a bridge with a sun behind it.
The bridge describes his fascination with engineering as well as his desire to "bridge the gap" between different groups. The sun behind it represents knowledge and clarity

Personality: Generally speaking, Quikwitt is a mild-mannered pony with a gentle baritone voice. He has a great deal of patience which often comes in handy.

In the classroom, he speaks authoritatively and enthusiastically, charming many students with his unique humor and down-to-earth explanations.

In polite society he mostly politely listens and speaks only when necessary, often leaving mixed reactions.

When speaking with a friend, his demeanor turns warm with a small smile and genuine interest in his eyes. Though many would say he has a muted personality, he can be provoked to burning anger or childlike giddiness with subjects that he is passionate about. His emotions run deep.

Backstory: Noble H. Quikwitt was born to a unicorn father and earth pony mother in Canterlot. His father had once been a member of celestia's court, during which time he was put in charge of several public works projects. His mother had once been a hired hand for a sizable carrot farm on the outskirts of ponyville.

When Noble was a young colt, he was picked on in his class because he was the only earth pony in a class of unicorns. This made him hate being an earth pony. "Earth ponies can't fly or do magic, so they're useless!" His parents did their best to try and convince him, but he wouldn't believe it.

That weekend, his parents decided that they needed to take a day trip to ponyville. While riding the train that morning, Noble noticed a beautiful site of a bridge with the rising sun just behind it, causing it to glitter. "Wow Dad! I bet that took a LOT of magic to build that bridge!" "Actually son, it took very little," his dad said,"The whole thing was built almost entirely by earth ponies." Suddenly, everything about what his parents were trying to tell him, how earth ponies are just as special and you didn't have to have a horn to do magical things, clicked. He could see the connection, the beauty, of a magic that wasn't immediately obvious. By the time the train pulled into ponyville, Noble looked down and saw his brand new cutie mark.

What followed was one of the best days of his young life. Ponyville was having some sort of carnival, with all sorts of booths, sights, sounds, and smells. They visited the carrot farm where his mom used to work, and Noble learned how to "feel the earth". The day ended with a spectacular fireworks display and a sleepy train ride back to canterlot.

From that day on, Noble committed himself to his studies, and though the teasing words of his classmates still hurt him, he developed a deep well of patience and eventually began to make friends. He got accepted to canterlot university, where he studied equestrian history. During his time at college, he also developed an interest in griffonian history, as there was relatively little information exchange between the two empires. Gathering all the information he could, he set out for the only griffon library known to be still standing, on top of the craggy mountains which mark the border of equestria and the griffon kingdom. Braving the snearing looks of the villager griffons, Noble found the librarian and befriended her using their shared historical knowledge, of a time before the pony-griffon war when books were regularly shared between the royal canterlot library and this one. He returned to canterlot university with a saddle pack of griffonian books and the attention of the university and even Celestia herself.

Upon his graduation from canterlot university, Celestia strongly encouraged him to apply for a faculty position at her school for gifted unicorns. His application was met with some resistance, but with persistence Noble was hired as the first earth pony faculty member in the history of the school, teaching equestrian history and griffon-pony relations.

Though he had accomplished much, he still faced some struggles. Not all faculty members were elated to have an earth pony as a co-worker, and thus his authority to teach was almost constantly challenged. The canterlot elite saw him as more of a novelty, or worse yet the son of a failed unicorn engineer, which made any encounter with them awkward at best. To keep his spirits up, he often needs to get away to find the connections that make this world good.
