Rail
Age: 46
Gender: Male
Species: Unicorn
Appearance: He is a grey unicorn with very short black mane and matching tail which he keeps combed back and pressed flat. His eyes are a dark shade of blue. He is almost always wearing a suit of some sort, usually black, as a sign of his sophistication. He may often be seen with a cigarette, an unhealthy habit that he has no plans of kicking.

He speaks with a universally monotone voice and never raises his voice for any reason.
Cutie Mark: A full deck of poker cards. His greatest talent is gambling, and his ability to stay calm and collected in even the most high stakes bets. He has bet his entire fortune on multiple occasions and never broke a sweat, appreciating the thrill of gambling.
Personality: He has a very complex mindset. His ultimate love is gambling, where he acquired a vast majority of his money, however, he gambles for fun, not personal gain. He believes it to be a sacred thing, his ultimate source of joy. He detests cheaters.

He is also a notable egomaniac. He will not allow anyone to continue his work without him, destroying unfinished projects in order to ensure the won't go on without him.

He is extremely stoic. Meaning that he rarely has emotions and almost never expresses them when he does. This gives him the look of being calm and cool even in the most dangerous and emotional situations. (This has often been known to frustrate those around him.)

A more hidden feature of his personality is that he is completely un-empathetic and indifferent to the rules of society (the qualities of a psychopath), though this is buried deep within his mind and rarely shows before it's too late. Using his vast fortune, brilliant mind and disregard for others, he will often initiate horrible schemes that could bring about great consequences to life in Equestria simply to see what will happen.
Backstory: This quote from The Dark Tournament II sums his backstory up nicely:

"I have a purpose. Being born at the bottom of society I got to see exactly how bad this world is. I had an otherwise typical childhood. I became obsessed with death and suffering. Sometimes I would play a game where I saw how long I could keep an animal alive after I removed its heart. A typical childlike game. But soon we have to grow up and see that there is more to life than personal fun. I found out that I could turn my ambitions into cash through gambling, and there was no turning back. The sheer thrill of gambling, the exhilaration of risking it all. It was without match. The stakes have gotten bigger and bigger, soon money lost its mystery, so I found a way to make the stakes a little more interesting."

As stated above, he was born to a lower middle class home (In Trottingham) where he gradually grew to resent his family's lifestyle. He hated the idea of being in a normal family and having a regular job that operated within the norm of society. He showed early signs of being a sociopath with his secretive treatment of small animals.

When he grew to an independent age, he began to learn about the thrills of gambling. He gradually built up a fortune in the criminal world and eventually became a well-known 'businesspony' in the city. To the public, he was an entrepreneur who built his fortune honestly. Though in truth, he had accumulated wealth through manipulation and running his own crime syndicate.

He had a daughter named Topaz, whom he cared for alone. He never told anyone about who her mother was, but he claimed that she had died shortly after Topaz was born and he had always intended to raise her alone.

**Dark Tournament Only**

Using his wealth and influence in the criminal underworld, he created The Dark Tournament of Equestria, a sixteen contestant tournament used for entertainment and gambling.

During the first Dark Tournament, he watched contestants behind the scenes and betted on matches. His perceptive talents allowed him to win massive amounts of money from his friends. Most notably, he won so much money from bets two other crime lords (one in the first round and one in the final round) that he bankrupted them and made himself the wealthiest stallion in Equestria. After winning such massive amounts of money, he had nearly two times as much money as Equestria's gross product.

In the second Dark Tournament, he still continued to bet despite his massive wealth. It was revealed that he had been planning to win even more money so that he could finally have enough to create a portal to the Fade (Which would flood Equestria with violent monsters). He bet over half of his fortune, and his entire life, on a fight between a Yokai named Mason and the Tournament's champion, Sole. Sole eventually won and Rail compliantly accepted defeat. However, he said that he would not back down on his obligation, he had bet his life on the match. He destroyed the entire Dark Tournament stadium while he was still inside and was crushed to death, leaving the remainder of his fortune to his daughter, Topaz.
