• Raven

    MyLittlePonyTales

    • Age: Young mare (about 22 in human years)

      Gender: Female

      Species: Pegasus

      Appearance: Eye Color: Golden
Coat Color: Light blue
Mane/Tail/Markings Color & Style: Blue mohawk mane, whipped back and messy from flying. Tail is messy as well, long and in an emo-ish style.
Physique: Slightly taller and buffer than the average female. She could take on any male her age.

Cutie Mark: Purple lightning forming the outline of a raven.

Personality: Raven was always the type to show off. Performing dangerous stunts was her thing, but only when she knew she could pull it off. Of course, she practiced a lot. Her parents weren't too fond of her antics, always warning her that she'd get hurt, even if she was a Pegasus. Still, her parents, Nightwing and Robin, supported her endeavors.

Backstory: Though Raven finished flight school with flying colors, she got lazy, not pursuing any sort of job or career for a few years. This suited her parents just fine, as they could keep a close eye on her and make sure she didn't kill herself.

But, eventually she got bored and decided to try out for the Best Young Flyer Competition. She was a little older than most of the contestants, but she knew that she would be way better because she'd been flying longer. This was also the day she first saw the Wonderbolts.

The Wonderbolts performed a small demonstration before the competition go underway. Now THOSE were some cool ponies! Raven decided then and there that she'd do whatever it took, take on anypony that stood in her way, to become a part of the Wonderbolts.

Everything went perfect! Raven performed a trick where she closed her wings and let herself fall face first towards the ground. But, at the last second, she spread her wings and soared up! Then, she flew dangerously close around the arena, right above the heads of the watching crowd! After that, she formed a patch of storm clouds into the lightness of Nightmare Moon. This was dangerous, because of the lightning that came form storm clouds. Princess Celestia probably would have been more appropriate, but Nightmare Moon just looked so much cooler. (She'd learned about the mythical Alicorn in a History book back in school.) Not all of the ponies recognized the likeness, and some even mistook it for a bad rendition of Princess Celestia.

After a few more daring tricks, Raven had finished her routine. She had the competition in the bag, she was sure of it! Her tricks were far more complicated and extreme then what these other lame Pegasi had done. Then, that yellow Pegasus ruined everything.

Her flame trick around the arena was cool, Raven had to admit. But not quite as cool as her own tricks had been. Right before the winners were announced, Raven went to check to make sure she looked awesome before she accepted her award. As she looked in the mirror, she noticed her Cutie Mark! It was a super cool looking Raven, outlined in purple lightning. Raven KNEW that the Wonderbolts must be her destiny now!

She proudly trotted to the crowd of other ponies who were waiting to hear the winners. Not that there was any doubt who would get first place. When it came time for Princess Celestia to announce the winner, Raven leaned over to the pony next to her, who just happened to be a slightly singed Spitfire. “Ready to win second place? You WERE pretty good.” Spitfire just smiled and said, “We'll see. Good luck, anyway.”

Raven lost. Well, she didn't lose, exactly. But it wasn't first, and that was just as bad as losing, to her. She lost to that stupid Spitfire! How could SHE lose?! Spitfire got to spend the day schmoozing the Wonderbolts, and Raven was left shamed. Of course, her parents were proud of her for getting a high place, and for achieving her Cutie Mark. But it wasn't enough for Raven.

She was approached by a distinguished looking pony, who offered her a tempting proposition. He was planning to start up a group like the Wonderbolts—only, more extreme. Raven was intrigued by the idea, and bitter with the Wonderbolts for not choosing her. So, in a fit of anger, she signed on to be part of—THE SHADOWBOLTS!

Later on, after she'd cooled down, Raven changed her mind—but it was too late. She'd signed a contract, and was forced to move away from her family and travel around with the Shadowbolts. Still, she loves every minute of showtime, using her anger at Spitfire and against the manager who tricked her.

Although it's not Spitfire's fault that she won and Raven joined the Shadowbolts of her own accord, she still blames them to avoid facing the reality that second place was good enough and that she made a stupid and hasty decision. She's also bitter about having to leave her family, but that just pushes her to do more extreme stunts, in the hopes that she'll get hurt and be sent home.

But Raven knows that flying is what she loves to do. Hurting herself could mean losing her ability to fly... forever. So she tries to be careful, but more often than not she'll throw caution to the wind and screw being safe. After all, that's what a Shadowbolt is supposed to be, right? Dashing and daring, courageous and fearless.

Raven had already been in the Shadowbolts for a couple of years before she found out that Spitfire had become the LEADER of the Wonderbolts. She hadn't known her name before, she was just somepony who had competed against her... and won...

So Raven aspired to be just as good as Spitfire. After all, she was older, faster, stronger, and WAY more talented. She had been content to just perform stunts, but now she had to become the female leader of the Shadowbolts. That was pretty easy, since the Shadowbolts were a new group and didn't have a lot of members yet. Their only leader was their manager, who always told the team what to do. Of course, he never participated in the flying himself—so what did he know about all their stunts?
Raven approached him and demanded to be made leader, which he obliged to rather quickly. It was kind of suspicious, but Raven wasn't going to complain. Now she could boss the other ponies around, get top billing, and be on every Shadowbolts poster! She could be the face of the Shadowbolts, the pony every foal aspired to be!

She works her team hard, aspiring to make them even greater than the Wonderbolts. Her desire to leave the Shadowbolts has lessened, since her reason to stay is to beat the Wonderbolts. Until that goal is fulfilled, she plans to stay apart of her current team.

Raven still has a desire buried deep within her to still become a Wonderbolt. She'd never tell anypony that though. She tries to deny the fact that she's bitter she wasn't chosen, but everypony can tell. It's just one of the many things that motivates her to be 'bad'.

Raven wants to someday take each of the Wonderbolts on in a race, especially Spitfire. She knows that she could totally beat them at everything, if only she got the chance. But for now, she's content to sit back and make some bits, waiting for the right time to have a showdown with those goody-two-shoes Wonderbolts!
