Appearance:

Bright sky blue, slender but not too spindly, and slightly shorter than an average unicorn of Canterlot (or anywhere, really). Sports a short, jet-black mane and has eye bags. Tail is kept short, never reaching past the knee.

Cutie Mark:

Salve's cutie mark is simplistic Rod of Asclepius tilted so that the head of the snake is pointing towards his head.

Personality:

A polite, kind, and generally good-natured unicorn who is rather friendly and playful for a medic. Sometimes has a tendency to spout unrelated topics on top of what he does and can be a motormouth whether or not it is intended. Just don't ask if he is taking any kind of stimulant if attempting to understand why he behaves as such; he will take it as an offense and wonder if you have something against erratic speech. His friendly demeanor usually wins him the attention of others but his book-smarts, muttering, and motormouth tendencies don't usually end well for him when others would excuse themselves from his conversations with them. While he has a few friends, he would rather put others at ease but will not take the initiative to turn amicable relations into friendships.

Salve sometimes has episodes when he would slip into a more rational and calculating but unstable personality when something needs his utmost attention. He drops his friendly demeanor and often squints his eyes to focus. This, however, only came about after a terrible mistake he made in his past. Strangely, he still runs his mouth off even though he shouldn't be doing it in tense situations. He also firmly believes in a pro-ethics stance; no matter how dire a situation is, it is not worth sacrificing values just to get a job done. There is always a better alternative.

As for whether or not anyone should be concerned about his strange fascination and whether or not it affects his work, he wouldn't say. He normally exclusively uses magic to set broken bones and perform most non-invasive procedures. His proficiency lies in that respect.

Still, he strives to do the right thing even if the circumstances do not paint his options in simple black and white and he won't let his mistake bring him down.

Backstory:

Save as many as possible... That's what mother always said.

Following in the footsteps of his mother, he chose the life of a medic to serve in Canterlot's armed forces. Started out small, helping out at his mother's clinic before taking up studies in a formal medical school. Salus wasn't the best in class but he was smart enough to get by though his social skills weren't as well-developed. He got his big break when his father recommended joining in the Canterlot army to work as their field medic, a preferable alternative to another offer he received*. He loved being in the action but even in the sidelines, he tries to find something to occupy his time, most notably making small talk with his patients. Unfortunately, being raised with few social skills, whoever he is casually talking to will leave after because patients don't stay sick or battered for long, or they leave because they're annoyed. On top of that, he also has basic training and uses magic to conjure personal defenses when necessary but barely finds use for them.

He had his job for years but later transferred to the Crystal Empire after its liberation from King Sombra to help rebuild under Cadance and Shining Armor's leadership, and to distance himself from a tragic miscalculation during a triage that nearly cost him his fellow soldiers. Several months passed and he resigned from his post to run a private clinic in the Crystal Empire where he would also take up residence in and start an interest rejuvenation magic therapies, though that is to widen his own skill pool and not in any interest to further developments in his field. Setting bones and sealing cuts are his specialty; he's no apothecary so he would usually buy his own supplies or advise his patients to find their medicines somewhere else. He also started looking into expanding his practice into surgery but he's very inept at it. He'd rather

As much as he would try to avoid going back to the old life, sometimes the allure, the action, and the chance to do some good out there still draws him in. He never could live down his mother's words. Logical thinking with a positive foundation of morals lets him get by just fine but even he thinks living the ideal and making it real is worth striving for.
