By Alex Night
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Species: Non-Pony
Appearance: Sam is a young boy with a slim build. He is 5' 9" tall and 135 lbs. He is Caucasian with brown spiky hair that makes him look like he just got out of bed along with green eyes that he inherited from his mother. He wears a simple open gray short-sleeved jacket with a red outline along with a blue shirt underneath the jacket. He wears a silver star necklace around his neck that he got from his mother when he was born that held his name. He wears a pair of beige jeans with a pair of sneakers with a black design mixed with a touch of gray near the toes and a red line around the base of the sneakers.
Personality: Sam is a cheerful young boy who loves having adventures. Even in the most boring things to do, he'll try to find fun with it, especially with his friends around. He is a bit naive and loves competing especially in physical events like sword fighting with wooden swords. However, he is kind-hearted and would always be there for a friend in need with a big smile on his face.
Backstory: Sam lived up in the sky in a city called Windmill Isle on the world called Sky Eden. He had a mother named Alyssa Avalon who was a schoolteacher for an elementary school. His father was called Jun Avalon who was a Captain of the Windmill Guard until he had an accident on a training exercise when his bi-plane malfunctioned and fell to the sea down below the floating island at the young age of 8. Since then, Sam had to live as a young man without a father to be a head of the household, although his mother took care of him more.

Fast forward to the age of 17 on the eve of his 18th birthday, Sam had grown to be a cheerful and athletic young man. On Sky Eden, it was traditional that when a young man or woman reaches the age of 18, he or she was to venture out from their home in search for other floating isles to call home in order to signify their coming of age.

One night on the day before his birthday, Sam had a dream where he was standing on a glowing platform with stained-glass floor featuring him looking like he was sleeping, waiting to be awakened. Out of nowhere, he saw three pedestals appear at the edges of the circular glowing platform. One held a sword with a golden hilt, one held a blue magic staff with a blue mouse head on top, and the last one held a black shield with a red outline and red mouse head.

"How would you use your power? To protect those closest to you? To focus your inner strength? To bring destruction to those who wish you harm? Choose wisely. If you give it form, it will give you strength. One to gain, one to lose." Sam heard a voice call out to him as he looked around reasonably confused. Sam looked at his options and thought for a full minute before deciding to gain the power of the Guardian and give up the power of the Warrior.

After making his two choices, the pedestals dissappeared and around him, small dark shadows with yellow eyes took form around him, looking at Sam intently. All of a sudden, his shield came out of nowhere onto his right hand. Slowly but surely, the shadow creatures started to crowd on him and Sam was quick to react to this by swinging his shield to beat the shadows away. Eventually after a minute and a half, the shadows were defeated as they disappeared from the glowing platform and all seemed well for Sam. That was until a dark hole appeared underneath Sam's feet and he started to sink as if he was in quicksand. He shouted for help and received none as the darkness continued to swallow him. He was about to completely engulfed until...

He woke up with a start as he heard shouts and screams from outside. "Huh? What's going on?" Sam asked aloud as he got out of his pajama bottoms and put on his normal outfit before running outside. He was met with chaos as he saw various creatures that he had never seen before attack the villagers and the Guard. Alex wasn't sure what those dark creatures were doing to them, but he was seeing their hearts were being taken by them, seeing their bodies disappear. The Guard were fighting valiantly, but their weapons were doing nothing to these strange dark creatures. To Sam's left, he saw his mother being cornered by the same dark creatures with yellow eyes. "No!" Sam yelled out as he ran for her mother's rescue.

Sam was right in the nick of time as a shadow tried to make a swipe to Alyssa. His mother was out of the circle of creatures now, but Sam was trapped by them without a wooden sword or anything to fight them with. The four shadows jumped simultaneously for Sam, who threw up his arms to shield himself. He expected his doom, but it didn't come. Instead, a bright light enveloped him, throwing the shadows back and dissappating them. In his right hand, he saw a large key like object that looked like it was carved out of bi-plane propeller and it held his silver star on a keychain at the bottom of the hilt.

He looked towards his mother who was shocked and relieved to see her son was alright. However, the moment quickly came to an end as Sam saw a large dark ball in the middle of the distorting night sky. It was tearing the Isle apart, sucking objects and people into it. Soon, Sam was holding onto dear life to a wooden stake in the ground and was barely able to grab his mother with one hand. "Hold on, mom! I got ya!" Sam yelled out to her who was having a frightened look on her face. Slowly, he was losing his grip on his mother. Alyssa looked at Sam with a tearful smile. "Sam, I love you..." Alyssa said to her, which made Sam more scared of losing her. In just one second, Sam's mother was out of his reach and she was now being sucked into the dark abyss of the dark energy ball.

Sam's wooden stake broke away soon and was himself getting sucked into the black ball. He watched as his home was getting torn apart before he was seeing nothing but darkness, not knowing what will happen next.

"Sam... You hold the greatest weapon of all..."

After who knows how long, Sam wakes up slowly and looks around. He hears a loud bell ring from above him. "Wha? Where am I? W-where's my mother?" Sam asked aloud, but he had no answer to any of those questions. Little did he know, his home was gone, swallowed by the darkness and was now stranded on a new world that he had never seen before...

Traverse Town.
