Cutie Mark: A magnifying glass with a hoofprint beneath it. It represents her skills as a detective, as well as her most perfected spell. This spell allows her to reveal hoofprints (which act as pony versions of fingerprints). When she uses the spell, her horn glows, and reveals hoofprints within about a 2 metre radius of her horn. Hoofprints revealed this way will glow in the same colour as the coat of the pony that left them. They stop glowing once Shadowhide cancels the spell or moves out of range.

Personality: Shadowhide doesn’t show her emotions openly. She always appears quite serious, and only shows other emotions in the face of extreme events.<br /><br />She is incredibly direct, often saying things with little regard to how it may offend others. She doesn’t do this out of malicious intent; she just feels there’s no point in obscuring what she thinks. She is also very focused and has a no-nonsense approach. She concentrates exclusively on her current task, and is intolerant of others interfering or slacking off when it hinders her.<br /><br />Although she is very focused when she’s working, she is surprisingly willing to participate in various entertaining activities outside of work. These include playing games with others and attending parties. However, in more social situations, her stoic, to-the-point personality can make her very off-putting to those who don’t know her well. Accordingly, she prefers to remain with just her close friends who understand and accept her peculiarities.

Backstory: Shadowhide’s past contains a traumatic incident that had a huge impact on her life. Her parents were police detectives and had been in charge of a task force investigating an elusive, dangerous criminal. While Shadowhide was still a filly, she was very close to her little sister, Luminance. During that time, the whole family was invited to the annual Police Christmas party. The criminal took this opportunity to booby trap their car with an explosive, in order to eliminate their threat and send a warning. On the way to the special event, Shadowhide’s family discovered the bomb when it was about to go off and quickly escaped from the car. Tragically, Luminance tripped while scrambling to escape, and was caught in the explosion.<br /><br />The loss of her sister in this manner, when so young, had many major effects on Shadowhide. Firstly, it caused her to have a very intense hatred of criminals, which is her main motivation for becoming a detective like her parents. Her biggest goal is to one day bring the criminal responsible for the explosion that killed her sister to justice. It also caused her to have an intense fear of fire, since it reminds her of the car explosion. The last major effect was causing her emotions to become very repressed, which is why she doesn’t show her emotions openly, except in extreme circumstances.<br /><br />Because of the past trauma, mentioning this event to Shadowhide will easily cause her to snap at you, unless you do so delicately and with good reason. Simply hearing her sister’s name, Luminance, can often be enough to make her react harshly. However, Shadowhide has been extremely selective about those she tells and only her closest and most trusted friends are aware.
