• Silver Quill

    ShiningArmor15

    • Age: 18

      Gender: Male

      Species: Earth Pony

Appearance: Silver Quill is a stocky pony, with short chocolate-brown fur. His eyes are a stunning bright-blue, which stands in stark contrast to his dark brown mane and tail. Though his tail is brushed and cut short, his mane grows bushily out of his head. Silver's fur recedes slightly around his feet, exposing his hooves.

He regularly wears a dark-blue vest, which was a gift from his older brother. The contradictory colors of the vest and his body were the targets of much teasing.

Cutie Mark: Silver Quill's cutie mark displays a quill pen, dipped into a ink pot. This symbolizes Silver's skill with writing and words.

When Silver Quill was a colt, Equestria underwent a period of minor political unrest. Silver felt inspired to write a letter of encouragement to the Princess. Though he was not a bold pony by any stretch of the imagination, he wrote fervently, and found the words flowed out of him.

The end result was a mature, dignified, encouraging letter beyond what most would expect of his age. His parents were highly impressed, and sent the letter to Canterlot with the first mailpony.

A week later, to Silver's delight, a letter arrived at his house from the Princess herself! She thanked him for his kind letter, and complimented him on his exceptional ability.

As he reached the end of the letter, Silver's mother and father gasped and pointed happily to his flank. Upon turning, Silver saw his cutie mark, a sign of his extraordinary skill.

Personality: Insecure and unconfident, Silver often comes across as shy to strangers. Though he is talkative by nature, years of self-doubts have rendered Silver quiet around most ponies.

Silver has a good disposition, and is insouciant around his close friends. He enjoys laughter and conversation.

Silver does not have a brave nature, and feels fear particularly acutely. He has a lot of fears, though his greatest is the fear of rejection.

Though Silver is not brave, he is remarkably loyal to the few close friends he does develop. He has a strong notion of right and wrong, though he is not very outspoken on moral values. This is probably a product of getting shouted down so much.

Backstory: Silver Quill grew up in the heart of Manehattan. His parents were a poor but honest couple. His father was a industrial worker on a nearby rock farm, which supplied major manufacturers throughout Manehattan.

Silver Quill suffered terrible bullying at his school in Manehattan. Though he is big and strong, he is rather clumsy and slow. The pegasi always beat him in athletics, and the unicorns always beat him in smarts. This left Silver feeling inferior. He still feels uncomfortable around pegasi and unicorns. The other colts teased him about his name, his cutie mark, his extensive vocabulary, his mane, and anything else they could find. He became the target of all school jokes, and had very few friends.

To add to his insecurities, Silver's brother Virtuous Light was a star foal. He was athletic, good-looking and witty. Virtuous left at 21 and joined the Canterlot guard. Silver's parents were extremely proud.

Poor Silver could never match that. He got good grades, made a few close friends, and was obedient. His parents pitied their son, but couldn't do much to help him. They didn't have enough money to send him to a different school. They tried talking to the principal, but nothing was ever done.

Silver took more and more to reading and writing as he got older. Finally, at the age of 18, his parents decided he needed to get out of the house for a little while. They helped him look for jobs, and found a job in Ponyville ". . . for a talented writer."
