Cutie Mark: Burning Candle: Soot has a love of anything of the light but also anything that is like the sun so fire is the next best thing to a bat-pony. Even at a young age, he loved candles and the brightness that drove away the dark. It was his step-mom, an earth pony of all things to marry a bat-pony that brought in the light into the world of night. <br />She taught him to make candles as a hobby and it caught a fire in his soul of not only could he bring in light to the bat-ponies that it did not hurt their sensitive eyes to much given they are creatures of the night, but also how he could shape the wax into shapes and cravings! <br /><br />To show his love to his new step-mom, Soot craved his first candle for her which was a simple crude star. In his gift to his mom-step mom and her delight, he felt a sense of warmth in his chest of what he could do with simple wax and earned his cutie mark of a burning candle.

Backstory: Soot is a young bat-pony whose father is a Knight in Luna's Guard and lost his mother at his birthing due to blood loss, his father Nightblade blamed his foal for the lost of his mate and left the little bat-pony to be raised by his twin sister: Heart-Wake for a small time.<br /><br />Yet Nightblade did grieve for a year as custom of the bat-ponies but it was after he was called on a rescue mission to find a lot band of traveling earth ponies on root to trade he found a young earth mare alone fighting off timber-wolves while the rest of her band quaked in fear of the night hunters! Dawn, a little earth pony mare stood off the timber wolves with a torch in her mouth and keeping the fires lit around the small group. Nightblade swooped in, kicking off the wolves and with his group, fought them off but it was seeing the courage of the little earth mare felt his heart skip a beat! Yet could a bat-pony have a earth pony as a mate? Seems fate said yes and after a courtship, the two mated and Dawn soon carried a foal!<br /><br />Dawn also feel in heels over love for the little Soot, taking him in with a open heart as much as if he had been born to her! She taught the young colt her hobby of making candles and he feel in love with his adopted mother, while his father took some more time to be with his son. The family only grew more closer with the birth of his sister: Nevermore Midnight.<br /><br />Soot as he grew older did get trained by his father how to fight but never felt any urge to join the Lunar Guard, but took to his talent of making candles and found a joy in sharing his creations with not only the bat-ponies who loved the candles and the light they gave off but the mix of colors he could make with the flames! His talent and mouth of word of the crafted candles he could make also spread to the normal ponies and he was taking request every night!<br /><br />Also, he was a loving brother and took to standing up to bullies of all races who went after his sister in being half earth/bat pony. Nevermore took a high interest in the occult and making magical potions and craft along with Soot's candle crafting, the two could be found spending hours talking and crafting and down the line, opened a shared store of a mix of a cafe/occult shop named the Night-Light shop, a mix of their shared love of things light but also knowing they lived in the night!<br /><br />Soot is currently making his candles, but is also trying to open his own little shop in the Crystal Empire and found himself falling in love with a earth pony who seems to love another...
