Appearance: Amazing portrait is courtesy of http://mlpforums.com/user/18085-dilarus/<br />(Seriously go check out his art, he keeps saying hes not that good but he lies.)<br />Species: Everfree Wraith<br /><br />Mutations<br />Enhanced Senses: Due to spending most of his early life living off of the Everfree Forest, Shadow's sense of smell, sight, and hearing have increased extensively. This manifests visibly in his eyes which became bat-like and grey, as long as there is a little light Shadow can see. But sadly bright lights are uncomfortable for Shadow, its not blinding but his vision is reduced. (To normal pony standards.) His sense of hearing manifests visibly as well, as his ears are dagger-like and shaped. Fortunately in this case he can angle his ears in order to be unaffected by loud sounds.<br /><br />Superior Strength: As a result of his genetics and his many years in the Everfree not only is Shadow stronger than average, but his muscles are corded several times more densely than a normal Earth Pony. (Which already has denser than normal muscles.) Resulting in more strength with less weight.<br /><br />Mental Enhancements: Due to his ranger training and experiences Shadow is an extremely capable hunter, and his experiences with being the hunted make him hard to find if he dose not want to be found. Shadow has also developed a way to control his adrenal glands if he focuses, allowing him to move and react faster than most ponies. <br /><br />Regeneration: Shadow has a minor regeneration ability as well, allowing him to recover from most wounds. Its a little slow, but if he is given time to rest he could regenerate most wounds in a day and critical wounds in a week or so.<br /><br />Long Blade-Like Tail: Shadows tail has mutated into a long tail with an blade the length of a short-sword. Combining this with his Superior Strength makes for swift, piercing, lethal strikes. The extra bone in his tail makes it extremely hard to cut too. This coupled with the fact that its long enough to strike ponies in front of him, makes it an effective weapon.<br /><br />Ripping Maw: Shadow has a second set of sharp, ripping, and lethal teeth inside his mouth, accompanied by a pair of changeling-like outer fangs. They're retractable and they're made of the same material as his bones so their quite a bit more durable then they should be.<br /><br />Hyper-Dense Bones: All of Shadow's weapons are made of his bone which has hardened into a lightweight iron-like material, this makes his natural weapons lethal enough to cut through light armor. He even has a few extra bones here and there making it hard to kill him. Additionally removing one of Shadow's limbs is very difficult due to the hardened bones.<br /><br /><br /><br />Appearance<br />Don't let Shadow's appearance fool you, he is perfectly capable of hiding his noticeable features for infiltration. He is in fact quite stealthy even if he isn't trying he blends into the background, and if he gets into a crowd good luck finding him again. If Shadow does not want to be seen you aren't likely to see him till he wants to be found.

Cutie Mark: Shadow's cutie mark is an eye with a soul shaped (Just like the center of his sisters gear.) pupil covered in shadows so much that the eye is hard to see. It represents his dual abilities that allow him to hide from nearly everyone, (Its like the reverse of his fathers ability, similar to a "look away" spell.) and by the same token makes him very perceptive making it hard to hide from him or deceive him. The fact that his skill allows him to hide from and ignore his father and is a reverse of his prized ability, caused Eye Catcher to hate him and resulted in Catcher and his friends constantly abusing him.<br /><br />After becoming a Wraith his ability weakened by a lot, but his skills and new abilities only made him even more perceptive and good at hiding.

Personality: ((Equestria Divided Version))<br />Shadows upbringing and his years in the forest have caused him to be one very calculating psychopath. He behaves with extreme caution and is wary of almost everything, plus the years spent killing the ponies following him and Gear made him good at it.... It also caused him to enjoy it especially his victims fear. Also over the years he acquired a taste for meat, he could go without it but he wouldn't be happy if he wasn't allowed catch his own food. Shadow ears are constantly twitching, and he is almost always aware of his surroundings. He also lacks a drive to do much of anything other than survive and hunt. So if anyone wants to make use of him they had better seek him out. Also Shadow has a strong dislike of sexual rituals and sacrifice so while he can tolerate them he wont partake.<br /><br />One thing to make note of is that Shadow almost never fights on his enemy's terms. So it would take some convincing for him to fight on an open battlefield.

Backstory: Hometown: Hoof, Germaneigh (Its a pun off of Hof, Germany)<br />A small village on the far side of the Everfree forest. Hoof makes its money off of the rare wildlife in the forest and Refining steel out of its fair sized iron mine. However due to its proximity to the dangerous and harsh forest and the nature of its extremely warlike country, it is a slightly isolated and very harsh place to live.<br /><br />Notes on Germaneigh<br />Yah if you want a good impression of Germaneigh you could think of WWI Germany... Wars and all. (In other words the country Shadow's from, was in a state of constant war with a few other neighboring countries. Its been that way since before even his great grandparents were born.) It was also had no contact with Equestria and thus was separate from the sisters influence. So it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, it was just like the Earth country of the similar name but without all of the guns. (Or for that matter an end to the war in the near future.)<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Friends & Family<br />1. Father: Eye Catcher (Deceased)<br />Cutie Mark: Catcher's cutie mark is an eye locked in a cage to represent his ability to make ponies look at him. Its kinda like a "look at me" spell but it stems from his astral connection. Unfortunately for his kids, it only works on ponies with a weaker astral link than he has, and its also a massive point of pride for him. Put those together with his kids being born with strong astral connections and you have the perfect mix for an abusive parent.<br /><br />Unfortunately for Shadow, Catcher was eternally focused on Shadow; One reason was his ability made him a massive target for her fathers wrath. The fact that his son used his ability to hide was a huge insult to Catcher, and this alone caused Shadow to be his primary target. Shadow even caused his father to focus more on him on purpose in order to protect his sister, as a result Shadow's father almost never left him alone when he caught Shadow.<br /><br /><br /><br />3. Mother: Steel Cutter (Deceased)<br />Cutie Mark: Steel's cutie mark was a piece of Germaneigh's famed steel being cut apart by a long knife. It was to believed to represent her skill with steel and it did..... somewhat. Its true focus was the knife, everypony focused on the steel when really they should have focused on the second part of her name, Cutter. You see there was this killer in Germaneigh that cut their victims open on what ponies believed to be an altar. They where right on the cutting part but it was on Steel's forge that they where cut open. Whatever drove Steel into killing didn't matter in the end, after her first kill she was hooked and she felt compelled to kill more.<br /><br />Shadow wasn't really noticed by Steel and Shadow was never forward with her, so the 2 of them almost never interacted.<br /><br /><br /><br />Shadow was apprenticed to the villages ranger (One of the best in the country.) at the age of 5. (Due to his fathers connections.) He showed a large amount of natural talent and understanding for it, and when he was 10 he earned his cutie mark during the annual hunting trip. When the huntsponies returned Shadow's father Eye Catcher was furious to discover that his suns ability was the opposite of his own, but due to his skill at his trade Shadow was pretty much immune to being disowned. So Catcher resorted to blackmail and bulling, basically he and his friends would regularly beat and threaten Shadow. Sadly Shadow could do nothing about it except for hide from them and as a result he got even more perceptive and good at hiding than his job required. When he was 14 his mentor retired and was offered a position in the Kaisers court which he accepted, so Shadow was promoted to full ranger and became one of the best rangers in Germaneigh.<br /><br />Shadows life wasn't all that bad though when he was 7 his sister Twisted Gear was born, and due to his parents disinterest and negligence he had to skip 2 of the annual hunting trips. Luckily for Shadow, Gear's intelligence advanced at an extremely fast rate. By the time she was 3 she could take care of herself, and shadow went on the hunting trip that year and got his cutie mark. Turns out that only made things worse for Shadow but Gear would sneak him food, warn him when dad was coming, and generally make his every day better. Even though they never got along with other kids they where fine. Shadow would learn about being a ranger and avoid his dad. While Gear helped mom with the forges and built machines out of scrap metal. (Usually putting aside some steel for her big project, which she worked on when she got enough good steel for a part.) This went on till Shadow was 15 and then everything changed...<br /><br />His mothers nocturnal habits exposed Gear to the second part of her ability, as her large astral link allowed her to see the souls that drifted into her room. This also, along with other factors, caused the day that tore this fucked up family apart. One day Steel killed a pony that had done some very bad things in their life, and their soul floated into Gear's room while she was working on the machine she made to protect her brother. Unfortunately Gear was trying to find something to power it by this point, and it felt wrong to use the blue sparks. But then a red spark floated by using it didn't feel wrong in the slightest. So this evil soul went into the machine and it worked for a few days. (She even got her cutie mark for it.) Then Shadow got caught and Catcher hit him, consequentially her father received a huge smack on the back of his head from the construct that had been following Shadow around lately. After that Shadow was safe from pretty much everybody, after all Catcher didn't want another concussion and neither did anyone else. <br /><br />Sadly these few happy weeks came to an abrupt ending. Steel remembered seeing Gear build that construct and became fascinated by her own daughter and not in a good way either..... So one night she went into Gear & Shadow's room, went past Shadow's bed, and approached a sleeping Gear with her knife. But in her fixation she forgot about the construct and the fact that it didn't sleep. The construct saw her approach Gear with her knife and it activated with lethal countermeasures. Shadow woke up just in time to see the construct use its blade to punch a hole in his mothers head. (In through the back and right through the horn.) He put 2 and 2 together when the knife clattered to the floor so he saw the whole picture. However his father standing in the doorway did not so he rushed toward Gear with murderous intent. Shadow acted fast though and his ranger training gave him a significant edge, faced with the thought of his father hurting Gear like he had hurt Shadow he tackled his father into the construct. (Admittedly he wasn't aiming for the construct but the result was the same.) This resulted in Catchers neck breaking due to the force that Shadow had tackled him, combined with the fact that the construct was made out of Germaneigh's prized steel. (Thus it had about as much give as a castle wall.)<br /><br />While Shadow wasn't really disappointed by his fathers death, but he knew that his fathers friends would be quite vengeful and thus he had to act quickly. He quickly gathered all of the food and water (Also the steel that they had made that week.) in the house and loaded it inside the constructs storage compartment and gathered his weapons. (Steel claws that he used to hunt, a steel crossbow, and a dagger wrapped up in the tip of his tail.) Then he went to get Gear and told her to bond her construct to herself so that it could carry and protect her in the forest.<br /><br />During the year that they traveled deep into the forest Shadow lead Gear's construct (Which she affectionately referred to as Ironheart.) away from dangers, at the same time as leading his fathers friends (Which numbered 58 at start.) into the same dangers. on the first night that shadow discovered that they where being pursued, Shadow killed the unsuspecting sentry's and targeted the ponies that he knew to be decent trackers. On that night shadow killed 8 ponies 2 of which where skilled, (50 ponies) and afterwards when they chased him he led them into a manticores territory which resulted in 6 more deaths and shadow killed one more tracker in the confusion. (43 ponies) During this slaughter Shadow discovered that he kinda liked killing ponies, especially the ones who knew what they where doing.<br /><br />After the initial slaughter 2 of the remaining trackers split off form the main group, this left one tracker and 40 ponies which doggedly followed him. However last remaining tracker was by far the least skilled of the groups so he was easy to lead into traps and after 3/4 of a year, Shadow lead the remaining 24 ponies and the exhausted tracker into a hydra. After the hydra killed 22 of the ponies, Shadow stalked and terrified and generally played with his last remaining victims. (Which where too terrified to know where they where going so they where actually still following Gear.) He saved the tracker for last and brutally tore him apart and left him (Still alive.) for the animals. At the end of the year Shadow, Gear, and Ironheart arrived near a small mining town and built a cottage in the forest.<br /><br />Unknown to Shadow the trackers that he had lost track in the beginning, (A pair of Earth ponies named Keen eye & Trailblazer.) had remained on their trail with the intent to kill gear in order to provoke Shadow to fight them head on. So one day the 2 of them made it to their home and made their attempt to kill Gear while Shadow was away. To his surprise he ended up coming home to 2 Bloody patches in the grass, and a small new construct (Vickers) serving him dinner.<br /><br />Shadow and Gear lived there for a year, Shadow would gather food, fresh water, and hunt manticores, timberwolves, and other big prey. While Gear often made trips to the Fillydelphian gem mines. There she would fix anything broken and purify impurity's in gems (Much like purifying metal like she used to for her mother.) in return for scrap metal and a few bits. Life was good Shadow brought home food and water, Vickers cooked and cleaned, Ironheart killed the occasional animal that got to close to the hut, and Gear even finished Vickers's matrix and developed a new design. But sadly this year of peace only lasted for so long.<br /><br />Unknown to Shadow 5 of the ponies that he had thought killed by the hydra where very much alive, and they had a plan a rather destructive plan but they couldn't think of any other way to kill shadow. So on the day of the sisters disappearance, they started a fire near the hut and burned most of the surrounding area quite thoroughly. Shadow was a little late for lunch that day because he ran into a rather clever pack of timberwolves, and he had a little trouble dispatching them. So while he was killing the last timberwolf a fire spreed from the direction of the hut. He was forced to run and he was nearly burned but he jumped into a nearby river, and while he drifted down the river morning his sisters (Supposed) loss he came upon recent tracks that the survivors (Confident in his death.) had left behind.<br /><br />For 2 years he chased them all the way to Hof, and when he finally caught up to them a half a day away from the town he was no longer a pony. Over the course of those 2 years he had wholly given himself to the forest in order to catch them, so by the time he caught them he had developed his Enhanced Senses, Superior Strength, Hyper-Dense Bones, Regeneration, Long Blade-Like Tail, and his Ripping Maw. Sadly his cutie mark ability weakened by a lot, but his skills and new abilities only made him even more perceptive and good at hiding. Either way he was one of the first Wraith's and he was built to kill.<br /><br />When he caught up to the ponies that he held responsible for his sisters (Supposed.) Death, they firmly believed that they had done it and Shadow was dead unfortunately for them they where wrong. He attacked at midnight when the survivors (Who believed that they where home free and thus only had 1 pony on sentry.) where sleeping, and dropped on the single sentry that they had killing him instantly... But he was by far the luckiest one that night. After dealing with the sentry he incapacitated the Remaining 4 survivors and tied them up to trees facing each other. (Put one sentry on each end point + .) After they all woke up he attacked the first guard tearing him into ribbons over the course of a half hour while the others watched, the next guard got the same treatment, and so did the next, sadly as he was stalking up to the last pony their heart failed so his revenge wasn't quite complete.<br /><br />After he finished with the guards he left them there and lived in the forest for a year, but what he hadn't known was that the annual hunting trip had found the bodies at some point in the year, and 5 of Germaneigh's better rangers where gathered to hunt him down. In the initial attack he woke up when they got to close to him and he ran faster than all of them, unfortunately for them they thought they had the dumb beast and chased without thought of retaliation. This proved to be the downfall of the fastest and best ranger of the group, because Shadow leaped on him from above in a well planed ambush. The rest of the team caught up to the ranger only to find his ripped and torn body.<br /><br />After another years worth of playing with the rangers (Which both terrified and startled said rangers.) he had scraped it down to the second best ranger and the forth best (and very lucky) ranger. After the stress of tracking such elusive prey the second ranger used the forth ranger as bait, but the forth ranger didn't know that so it almost fooled Shadow. After pinning down the forth ranger he saw a glint out of the corner of his vision, and moved rapidly out of the way just as the crossbow fired. it looked like the bolt had hit the forth ones chest killing them. (In another burst luck it had missed and hit beside them) So Shadow forgot about the "dead" one and pounced on the other ranger ripping off his hind right leg, but the forth ranger jumped up and but her blade through Shadows lung just shy of his heart.<br /><br />They assumed that like any other pony that Shadow was dead and left to report to the Kaiser that they had finally killed the creature. However this was not the case and for the next 8 years Shadow hunted the ponies of Hoof killing them in their homes while they slept, destroying their caravans and leaving them for the local bandits, and killing any pony that dared to leave. Germaneigh was far to busy with its wars to send any more ponies to Hoof, (They already lost some of their best to a creature in the forest surely Hoof can take care of some bandits without support.) and they thought Hoof was exaggerating in order to get more funding and support. (Because Eye Catcher had done so in the past.) So eventually an enemy wiped them out by traversing the forest. (Which Shadow lead them through.)<br /><br />After 2 more years of traveling the forest of wandering the forest he started to get the urge to travel in a certain direction, and started learning about Equestria from refuges that where fleeing through the forest. After another year he found himself closing on a large castle which he chose to watch and keep his distance from for the moment.
