• Twilight Sparkle

    Shift

    • Age: Young Mare

      Gender: Female

      Species: Alicorn

Appearance: Twilight Sparkle has moderate purple eyes [#6D4490] that glisten like amethysts in the sunlight, and her coat is a very light lavender [#DCAEEE]. Her magic aura, during Season One, was a pale orchid [#FDC7F9], while from Season Two onward it's a brilliant raspberry [#FF5198]. While doing black magic, it's a grim black [#000000. Her mane is sapphire blue [#3C4D85], with moderate violet [#6D4490] and brilliant rose [#F0599C] streaks. Her mane and tail are kept straight with a small speck off of the mane to the left. Her wings are slightly larger than normal, and the feathers are spread out more, but she still isn't used to them, so she still can't fly faster than Rainbow Dash, or even faster than Fluttershy. Her cutie mark is a rose six-pointed star with white sparkles and another star behind the six-pointed star. It represents her skill and love in magic, and her love for stargazing and astronomy.

Cutie Mark: A pointed six-way star that has white sparks at the tips. It represents her ability to do magic, and her love of stargazing.

Personality: Twilight, despite being a princess, isn't quite comfortable with the title, due to insisting she's the same, just with wings. Lately, ponies refuse to speak with her due to her having wings. As you can imagine, Twilight isn't at all happy with that. She insists she hasn't changed just because she has wings. Speaking of her wings, she still isn't quite used to them yet, and is quite wobbly and awkward with them despite being larger than usual and making it easier to fly. She also chose to remain in Ponyville with her friends, rather than staying in Canterlot with her mentor and help with the ruling of Equestria. Don't tell anypony, but she doesn't think she's ready for that quite yet.

Twilight is the go-to mare if you want a spell done. She is very adept in almost all fields of magic, and she is happy to perform spells to solve tasks for others. If you need a book, you'll probably come running to Twilight (Or Spike). Sometimes Twilight thinks she's the only smart one who is surrounded by idiots wherever she goes, but even if her friends are idiots, she loves them all the same. She is very humble with her magic and uses it only when needed, due to the fear of being a show-off like Trixie. Her magic is unmatched or challenged...well, if you don't count Trixie.

When the time comes, she is witty and clever and can come up with slick plans, such as when she tricked Trixie with the fake amulet. Sometimes, during certain situations, that side of her brain shuts off and moves to panic. Twilight sometimes ignites into flame in a cartoon-ish manner, such as when she drank hot sauce in 'Friendship is Magic' and when the hydra wasn't the doozy in 'Feeling Pinkie Keen'.

As friends, she and the Mane 6 normally confide in each other. Twilight, however, finds it hard to keep secrets when around others, even when it's a Pinkie Pie Swear. One example is when she yelled out to the rest of the audience that Spike has a crush on Rarity. In Green Isn't Your Color, when she thought that telling the other the former's secret would settle the wound, but is bound to her word. Her tension worsens when Pinkie Pie pops up right when she was about to tell the secret. When she spoiled Spike's secret, Pinkie expresses her disapproval. Twilight possesses the ability to teleport; however, she has yet to master it properly. She can teleport short distances, no problem, but a huge chuck of energy was taken out of her system when she warped Rarity, Spike, Herself, and Applejack to the entrance of the Everfree in 'Dragon Quest'.

She's socially awkward, due to before meeting the Mane 6, she finds no need for friends in her life. She never truly noticed that something was missing before the fall of Night Mare Moon. Despite ordered to make friends; she ignored the latter and focused on studying and getting the rest of the orders carried out, which was to prepare the Summer Sun Celebration (An event that honors the fall of Night Mare Moon and the summer solstice). Despite being loyal and true to her friends, she loses faith in The Return of Harmony Part 2, before reading her letters she sent to Celestia and gathering them to stop Discord, in turn realizing that you should never give up on your friends. Despite making five friends, she is still socially awkward when meeting new ponies and will normally correct them even with the slightest mistake.

Twilight has been shown to get stressed easily and exaggerate things to the maximum. You may find it interesting to know that Twilight sometimes corrects ponies when they, themselves are exaggerating. Twilight is quickly dismissive of things that other ponies find to be true or superstition. Two good examples are Zecora being an evil enchantress in 'Bridle Gossip' and the fact that Pinkie Sense is real in 'Feeling Pinkie Keen'. On the Pinkie Sense note, Twilight finds it hard to believe certain facts without scientific evidence, or solid, rock-hard proof. This leads to some mishaps that put Ponyville in danger.

Twilight wields the Element of Magic, an artifact that is a member of the Elements of Harmony. She, along with Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack, Rarity, and Pinkie Pie wield the Elements of Harmony. The Elements of Harmony are artifacts that connect themselves with a certain pony, and when the six become friends, they can conquer all evil with the connection the Elements have made. It is a true mystery how these Elements work, however it is clear the Element of Magic is said to dominate them all. Twilight strongly disagrees, as she believes all of her friends have their strengths and weaknesses, and she does too. She has always viewed the Elements as equals, as despite being a Princess, she will always consider herself just another Ponyville pony, and luckily for her, the citizens will probably view her as such.

Twilight can be called the most calm and non-temperamental pony of the group. However, when her fuse lights up, you better be running for the hills, because at times, she can snap quickly. Her number one fear is not being Celestia's student anymore. She is deathly afraid of disappointing Celestia to the point that she completely entranced the entire town of Ponyville.

All in all, Twilight is an egghead, perhaps a nerd, who loves books, reading, friendship, and success...and in all honesty, she doesn't want anything more.
Backstory: Twilight Sparkle's history is many a ways like the story of the modern era. Born in Canterlot as the younger brother to Shining Armor, as a baby, her parents knew she was special. It's no surprise that Twilight copied what her parents did, and as such, her personality is a mix of her parents, Shining Armors, and Princess Cadence's (Her foalsitter) personality, ranging from loving books (Her Mother) to doing an epic book fort battle (Shining and her Father), to simply taking a stroll around Canterlot (Princess Cadence). One day, as a special treat for getting staright A's in Magic Kindergarden, Shining Armor brought her to the Summer Sun Celebration. Twilight, integrated, squeezed her way to the front to see closer. What she saw was beyond imagination. Princess Celestia was raising the sun in front of her using Celestial magic that would make Discord jealous, and Twilight's eyes grew wide because of the image she saw.

If this was magic, she wanted to learn it.

Twilight dove headfirst into her studies, learning everything she could about magic. Her parents, seeing her devotion to magic and school, enrolled her into 'Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns'. It was a dream come true...except she needed to pass an entrance exam!

Twilight huffed and puffed: this was it. She needed to hatch an egg, but not just any type of egg, a dragon egg. She honed her magic, sucked up as much pride as she could and used her magic forcefully! The egg was going to hatch any moment now...

...except it never did.

Twilight sighed. She gave up; it was hopeless. As long as Celestia’s divine sun graces Equestria with its glory, it’s never, ever going to happen. Well, except if a bang happened in the sky but what are the chances of that?

What a fortunate mare you are! A huge eruption of rainbow and light magic flew through the sky, sparking something in Twilight's body. A surge of magic circled her body, hatching the egg and turning it into a ferocious dragon, turning her parents into plants, levitating the judges...until a mystical being tapped on her, and her power dimmed.

She found herself staring into the face of Princess Celestia herself. Twilight gulped and braced herself. However, Celestia was talking about her raw power and requesting for Twilight to be her pupil.

Instead of getting scolded, each and every dream in her life was coming true! She was becoming the pupil of Celestia herself! She jumped up, a high-pitched 'YES!' following, before Celestia alluding that Twilight obtained cutie mark, that reflected astronomy and magic. Celestia also encouraged Twilight to keep the dragon, who insisted to call the dragon 'Spike'. Princess Celestia giggled as she escorted Twilight to her chambers. They both sat down on her comfy bed (Twilight noticed a smaller blue bed too, she wondered who that bed belonged to) and shared adventures they had during their lives. During one story about in ye olde Equestria, how dragons were treated as animals, Twilight also voiced her opinion that dragons were ponies too, and that Spike probably be another brother, but it was barely audible. Celestia heard it, and told Twilight the tale of Hearth's Warming Eve; before sneaking a story of the origins of the dragons. She told Twilight that dragon was a special one, and if raised by the correct pony, he could be a great little brother someday. That was the day that Twilight saw Celestia for what she was; a considerate and thoughtful mare, one that certainly wasn't flawless like all of the ponies viewed her to be, but could be viewed as a second mother in time. And in time, what she thought as a filly came true; Celestia really was like a second mother.

Many years later, Twilight was sent miles away to the town they call Ponyville to make some friends, and prepare for the Summer Sun Celebration, a celebration to honor the longest night and the summer solstice. Twilight hurried along with fixing up the preparations, and stepped into her library after meeting the sweet but really, really shy pegasus known as Fluttershy. However, when the lights came on, party poppers blew into her ears. Twilight flattened her ears and groaned; she didn't have time for this.

After fixing up that mess of a party, at the actual Celebration, Twilight was worried about something. Nopony could truly see why she was worried, and what exactly she was worried at. However, when Celestia was gone, and Night Mare Moon threatened to bring eternal night, they knew.

The mare who called herself Night Mare Moon threatened to take over the world with eternal night. Panicked, Twilight hurried back to Golden Oaks Library to consult her books for some help. She was able to wander with acquaintances throughout the Everfree, facing very ironic challenges along the way. The six courageous ponies approached the castle where their one hope: The Elements of Harmony were. Twilight, on a whim, attempted to create the spark that would make the sixth element appear. Alas, she failed. After she and the Mare in the Moon had a minor stare-down, Twilight was able to unlock their true power when she realized how happy she was with her friends beside her…like they were who she was meant to be with. In a rush of rainbow color as vibrant as Dash’s mane, Nightmare Moon’s essence was no more, and the Nightmare retreated back to the moon, releasing Celestia and leaving Luna to her wake.

She and her friends saved the world! However, that’s not what truly made her happy. It was the happiness that she finally found a true, true friend. Princess Celestia saw this, and later allowed Twilight to live in Ponyville, leading to some unforgettable adventures, from the dangerous lands of the Dragons, to the peaceful serenity of the Crystal Empire. She went through hard times when she thought that friendship couldn’t solve anything, but that later realized that together, they are unstoppable.

About two years after she had discovered the magic of friendship, Celestia gave her a task one would think impossible. Twilight, however, was truly ready to face the impossible, and succeeded where Starswirl had not; the spell had succeeded, transferring herself into a magical place, far, far beyond Equestria. The odd thing was, her mentor was there too. Celestia reminded her of what she had done, and granted her the title of princess and wings. After a coronation, Twilight expressed her worries of outliving her friends. Celestia assured her that she would not outlive her friends, on a Pinkie Swear.

Despite the requests of the Canterlot ponies, Twilight refused to move there due to the heartbreak she and her friends would have. Twilight still stays in the Golden Oaks Library in Ponyville, with the two best assistants and best friends a pony could want.
