• Whisper Rock Aka Whistle

    Majabya
    • Age: 28

      Gender: Male

      Species: Earth Pony

Appearance: Whisper is a rugged looking pinto stallion, one that is white with large brown patches all over. His mane is dark brown, messy, and fairly long, with his bangs hanging over his face, parting at his green, and often angry eyes. Around his neck is a red bandana hiding a large "X" branded to his throat. Despite all this, Whisper's most defining traits are his hooves, all are stone up until just below the knees. His OTHER most defining trait is that he's a mute, incapable of making any sound that comes from his throat, curiously this includes coughing and clearing his through, leaving his communication skills as whistling, pantomime, and those weird snorts ponies do.

Cutie Mark: Although Whisper's cutie mark is a music note, as he was a singer of some reknown, it has become smeared and blurry. Whether this is due to the nature of his curse or because of the mysterious nature of cutie marks in general no one can be sure.

Personality: It's difficult to get an accurate feel of Whisper, primarily because he is mute. Before being cursed he was arrogant, brash, uncharitable, and every bit a jerk you'd think a rich and shallow singer would be. Since being cursed, Whisper has gone through much, surviving on the kindness of others as he struggled his way out of the gutter, and ultimately learned humility and the gift of kindness. He longs for his old glory days as a singer and as such his driving goal in life is to find a cure to his curse, whether that means chasing obscure rumors or otherwise, but curiously he doesn't like being reminded of them by others. This includes talking fondly of his career, or simply singing. Gruff, quiet, and perhaps a little too impatient, Whisper is a pony with troubles that knows just how much a helping hoof can mean to someone. It should be mentioned that he tries to communicate primarily through whistling and hoof gestures, though with stone hooves this can be problematic. He can also write, albeit poorly, and generally doesn't.

      Backstory: ABRIDGED BACKSTORY:
Whisper started as a singer, got cursed to be a mute, lost his fortune, became a vagrant and later an explorer, got in a fight with a cockatrice and lost, and finally got his act together in the wilds of Everfree forest and became a rough and tumble hero. The end.

FULL BACKSTORY:
Whisper started as a high class singer, born and raised in Canterlot by his wealthy, but strict parents. Whisper's success was undeniable in the field of music, as he managed to hold concerts with royalty of all sorts attending. However, tragedy struck after one such concert wherein he simply got a bit too brazen and accidentally insulted several other entertainers, as well as a few high ranking members of society. The next morning, after a weird dream of being shackled and muzzled on stage, Whisper found a large "X" mark on his throat, and more importantly that he had lost his voice. He sought aid from his parents, but they shunned him for his insults that probably started this mess in the first place. Whisper then spent every bit he had to find a cure, alas it was in vain and he was reduced to poverty, gaining only the knowledge that whoever gave him this cursed brand was "very good", as all the doctors and spell caster ponies told him. Having fallen on hard times, turned down by his family, and being denied his reason for being, Whisper succumbed to depression, and would of rotted in a gutter if some ponies hadn't given him a much needed helping hoof (food and a place to stay), and a good pep talk to boot. Turns out these ponies were old fans of his, and begged him to keep trying at life as they helped him get used to what would be his new job: farming. A few months passed as he worked on that farm in rural Hoofton, but all was not well, for Whisper was once a celebrity, and his presence caused endless gossip, groundless rumors, and all the unwanted attention one could take. After those two months of what was constant pestering and hard labor, Whistle, as he was now being called, decided a change was in order and politely left. He spent the next year job hopping and for most of it was content with this as he faded into obscurity. One day he took a job from Professor Lens, a quirky old pony with huge glasses, to determine the accuracy of a map of the Everfree forest, for if the map was true, a long forgotten and safe path would allow one to cross Everfree in record time, promoting trade and travel. A fine and just goal to say the least, but there was one problem that none saw coming: the map was true up until about half way through the forest, at which point the path ahead became foggy and treacherous, a combination that caused Whistle to fall down into a steep valley. Making camp for the night, Whistle tried to get his bearings straight as the map said nothing of a valley, and continued to ponder his predicament as a storm rolled in. Thinking at first that the storm was made by pegasi and not by the Everfree's own nature, he ran out and tried his best to cause a ruckus and get the pegasi's attention. What he got was a cockatrice. Whistle had never seen one before, but he knew that eye contact with one would be a fatal mistake. Too bad he didn't see it until it made eye contact. His hooves were frozen as they turned to stone, with only one raised to strike but just as still as the others, but this one was frozen in fear. His situation seemed bleak as the petrification reached his knees, but just then a bolt of lightning struck a tree, not but a meter from the cockatrice, startling it and ending Whistle's petrification. Just as it stopped the monster, it acted almost like a gun shot or a bell to Whistle, and he was upon his foe, bashing it with all his might. Victory was his, but with stone hooves he had no chance of scaling the valley wall and going home, leaving him stranded. Whistle lived off the land, fought off monsters, and searched for a way home, until he found that there was no way to escape the valley, and thus decided to simply climb the cliff, stone hooves or not. This took almost a full two years. Needless to say his trials toughened him up, and upon his return he took to more "forceful" pursuits.
