A large faded red balloon bobbed gently with the chill breeze as a tall brown Earth Pony finished tethering it to the Canterlot Skydocks. Triple-checking his knots one last time, Dusty Haze tossed an old leather saddlebag over his back and headed into the city. He wasn't very fond of Canterlot. The ponies here were too posh and self-important for his taste, and he figured they felt similarly about him with his Southern accent and general air of unkemptness. Still, Canterlot was the best place to look for passengers, and Dusty was running dangerously low on bits. The Canterlot Skydocks were renown for berthing flying vehicles of all types, from regular balloons like Dusty's to the largest and most extravagant airships. Ponies would come from all over for a chance to sail the skies of Equestria. While Dusty's red balloon looked somewhat quaint contrasted with the airships docked beside it, he never had much trouble finding ponies willing to trade the comfort of an airship for the adventure (and cheaper fare) of a hot air balloon ride.

Dusty's favourite tavern in Canterlot was not far from the Skydocks. It was one of the less presumptuous establishments in Canterlot, popular with dock workers, crew and captains alike, and Dusty was more than a little partial to the warm lemon and clove whiskey they served. Not only that, it's proximity to the docks made it a perfect place to begin the hunt for potential passengers. At least, that's what Dusty told himself as he found himself heading there almost unconsciously. 'Ain't like a little whisky to warm up a cold set 'o hooves will hurt either,' he thought to himself with a wry smile, as he walked through the door into the dim, cozy interior.

Finding his favourite seat at the corner of the bar free, Dusty flagged down the barman; a grizzled former sailor and airship captain who had retired several years ago. Dusty knew him well, and the old stallion gave him a wink and a nod before setting to work on his regular drink. Dusty looked around the tavern as he waited, eyes open for any pony who looked like they may be in the market for travel.
