How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic:

So, I'm ConfusedFan, and I'm here because of two Rules of the Internet:

• A Crossover, no matter how improbable, will eventually happen; and
• If it exists, there is pony of it. 

And I couldn't be happier. FiM is one of my favourite TV shows, and I'm only just starting to discover just how vast and varied this fandom actually is. 

 

How I actually wandered into this fandom? Well, after watching the Doctor Who Christmas special back in December (and with no new Who until August) I decided to seek out some fanfiction. Scrolling through the DW Fanfic Recommendations page (TVTropes Will Ruin Your Life), I found a pony crosssover the piqued my interest. I felt it captured Tennant's Doctor very well, but didn't have a handle on these other characters. The point of no return was saying to myself: "I'll watch a few episodes, and then get back to this fic."

 

I first watched some episodes back in January, and then watched some more, and found a few interesting fictions, and then more AND MORE. When I needed to create an account on FiMfiction in May to organise my favourite stories, it occurred to me; "Oh. I've become a brony. When did that happen?"

There is that magical moment when you realize you are a brony. Often like for you and I it happens without realizing it. I was actually anti-brony for awhile but as a writer I have always been a sucker for good writing. The fanfiction that hooked me was Past Sins by PenStroke. From there I learned that judgments about the community were quite unfounded. I'm currently trying to catch up with the Doctor. My friend is a die hard Whovian and is actively trying to convert me. I may have to slip the the audio dramas Dr Whooves and Assistant and convert him! If you haven't checked out those dramas they are well done fan creations which I think any Brony Whovian can appreciate.

I'm not sure which audio series it is, but I tried to listen to the audio version of Squeak's 'Number 12' and found it... alright. It just didn't grab me like the written version. That may have coloured my opinion of audios. Well, fan-made audios. I love a good Big Finish audio drama, though I haven't listened to any in ages.

 

The fic that actually drew me into MLP was actually 'Timelords and Terror' by H3ph3stus. (I think I got the numbers right?) It's one of the best blends of Who and ponies I've read, and the sequel is. to my mind, even better.
