Wyzecat 350 November 21, 2014 Share November 21, 2014 So a little while ago, the plug for my headphones fell out. Basically, I'm wondering if there might be lead on the end of the plug, and wether or not I should wipe my device down or not because of... Lead poisoning. I can't stop thinking about it, and it's bothering me too much to concentrate. Thanks in advance, I think I just need some closure or something like that. GenderIsAnIllusion 2,177 November 21, 2014 Share November 21, 2014 the rubber bits are just a cushioning, they dont block any electrical leads. You can still use them, however the sound quality wont be as good, and it will feel weird. I recommend buying new rubber plugs for them. At any tech store that carries in-ear headphones, you can find them for 1-4 bucks. edit: Thought you meants leads...... no there isnt any lead in the product. Products sold in america have very specific guidelines against the use of lead. I can assure you, anything that will be around your face will not have lead in it. My peep is against bullying.... IvoryDreamer 102 November 21, 2014 Share November 21, 2014 (edited) I found this, I hope it answers your question: Are you going to eat them or smoke them? If not, don't worry If you're not going to eat your headphones, or smoke them, you have nothing to worry about. Lead is a VERY dangerous substance when it gets into your body. It causes all sorts of problems in adults, including seizures, miscarriages, difficulty concentrating, and high blood pressures. It is even worse for children, where it can cause serioous brain damage. However, for these horrible things to happen, the lead has to actually get into your body. This can happen in 2 ways: breathing lead fumes or lead dust (inhalation) or swallowing lead (ingestion). Neither of these two things is going to happen with your headphones, unless you do something very weird with them. People are rightfully concerned with things like lead paint on toys, because kids put toys in their mouths and can get lead poisoning that way. But the lead in your headphone wires is safely encased in plastic insulation. Unless you eat your headphones, or scrape all the insulation off the wires, rub the wires, and then put your fingers in your mouth, you're completely safe. Here is the New York State Department of Health Page on Lead Exposure in Adults, if you are interested. But the bottom line is don't chew on your headphone wires, eat them, or grind them up and smoke them, and you can rock out without fear of health problems.
