Religion and Free Will

Recommended Posts

So i had a chat with my pastor about the history of the religions and why they exist, but i ask them why should we suffer for another person's mistakes. I never get a clear answer, just a line from the bible itself. I don't hate religion, mind you; i just want to get answers for myself. Is that wrong for me to find the truth? Is it wrong for me to question my purpose? I don't think so, i was never given free will, i inherited it from my ancestors. I feel strongly for both sides, but must question each to get my answers from them, each having different views.

From every person i talk to, they have their opinions, which they were more than willing to share with me. This is how human nature should be, not acting like a bunch of children bickering about how the other is wrong, i could care less about who thinks i'm right. I follow my own path and nobody elses. My purpose is to seek out those who truly accept others for who they are, not by what they've done. I've heard how parents teach their kids how to kill another and get rewarded for their actions. This is the true evil here, not me.

That kind of person deserves to be punished, not the child who committed this act at the behest of the mother or father. If you look these things up, they show how much the guardian of that child didn't care what people thought of them, they enjoyed every last minute of fame. But come sentencing, they show their true selves and break down crying and beg for their life. But its too late once you commit to that act, your not getting a second chance.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now i will say something about free will, the basic of all man's traits. This is not a gift, but a inheritance; you're born with this ability to think for yourself and can do what you feel is right. You can choose to go to church or not, it won't matter which you choose. Your life is your own, live it the way you see fit. I asked my mother does she think we have any, her answer: No. That's only her opinion, not mine. Now for those of you who think i'm wrong, take a look at what you have done in the past, you chose To listen to the music you wanted, nobody made you do it.

You choose to get married, nobody made you. You choose to eat what you like, nobody made you. So tell me, what makes you think you have no free will at all? Or gives anyone the right to call anyone who doesn't believe in god vile, a sinner. Its doesn't, those people who do are just as guilty when they say those hurtful things, that my friends, is jealousy, envy. They can't stand the fact that you got to choose your own path, live they way you wanted to, even f you stole friend's girlfriend from him, that doesn't make you evil, she chose you because she likes you.

Me? i choose to live without restraint, i choose to be my own person. Not try to be what somebody else that i'm not. If i'm punished for it, so be it, but i'm the victim if it happens.

Good question.  I've always wondered why any specific religion can point fingers at another and say they're wrong.  I find ourselves as human beings to limited in terms of we'll die one day, and we only really seem to get a little closer to the truth when we're just about ready to die.  So if we're limited with the "end of life" and time to sort out the truth, how could we possibly say another religion is right or wrong or knows better.

The way I see it is as long as you stand for something, and stick with it, and aren't hurting anyone in the process, then nothing else really matters.... Who created what, or why don't really matter to me. What matters is what's happening now, and how you choose to handle it.

This is what i'm getting at, people want to judge others, but is it worth it to have such hatred for atheists, agnostics?

No, and the sad part people aren't going to stop judging each other anytime soon.

I'm trying to have a talk with my mother about religion and our purpose, and she dodges every question thrown at her. Only replying with: "I don't want to hear it.". I understand her fear of someone questioning her religion and believes, but all i wanted was her honest opinion. Is this how everyone wants to act, its disrespectful.

Now this vid is a perfect example of how a pastor is never supposed to act:

That was uncalled for and considered assault on a minor. This kind of behavior is what will get you in trouble folks, that is what i see when people judge others and call them vile and sinners.

So think carefully before you speak your mind, you might end up getting yourself in too deep to get out.

Not at all. In fact, I'm willing to bet God's will would be that you continue to seek for inner-truth, even if it involves questioning your beliefs.

I asked my mother does she think we have any, her answer: No

This is strange, because every religious person I've spoken to believes in free will, as do I. This includes the free will to not believe in God or any specific religious doctrine should you so choose. Free will is like a gift that has been given to us as to allow us all to walk down our own path. To me, there is no "one way street" to God. I don't believe there to be one exact religious denomination which contains the 100% full truth. Only God knows the real truth. We just, as imperfect humans, are tasked with getting as close to that truth as we can, through whatever ways we come across.

We are all sinners. All of us have committed wrongs in one way or another. We just sin differently. I would think God would rather someone seek a personal truth out for themselves rather than blindly stick to a certain belief without attempting to expand their horizons at some point.

I'm never saying i don't believe at all, but to find my own way in life to him.
