[Epic] MLP Theme Song Orchestral (Feedback Needed) (Work In Progress)

So I've done a short intro remix for the MLP Theme song. It's gonna lead into some epic wubs right as the track ends. Here's what I've got so far. I'm collaborating with the guy who's teaching me synthesis, so hopefully it turns out good.

I'll also be making a full orchestra suite version of it too

When I first listened to it once I made it, I almost cried due to how epic it was. Got a huge rush. The rush wore off tho and I've crashed, so opinions on how it makes you feel is greatly appreciated!!

@@Aurelleah,

It certainly has a very 'grand epic' vibe to it, and I love the percussion you've chosen! To me, it paints a picture of the Mane 6 embarking on some great adventure. The driving strings and almost ethereal flute also help.

What program did you use, if you don't mind my asking?

I use FL Studio 11.1, with Kontakt. For my insturments I used the factory library that comes with kontakt and for percussion I used a taiko drum sample pack I got off a youtube video somewhere xD

Heres a screenie of my setup

@@Aurelleah,

Interesting! So the instruments are loop patterns, similar to Mixcraft or Garageband? Is there any way in which one can use a midi keyboard or notation software to input sound at all?

(Sorry, I'm a music teacher. I'm on a bit of a hunt for the holy grail of music software. Ideally, I'm chasing something which can combine loops with limited traditional notation and the option to record digital input through a midi device. Basically, something which would appeal to every student of every ability level. So far, I haven't found it. xD)

Nope! Theyre not loops :3 The patterns you see are midi patterns. You draw the notes on the piano roll so as to adjust the note played and the duration and the velocity at which the note is played, if that makes sense. Here's what it looks like inside a pattern

It's set up similarly as sheet music. Each of the dark vertical lines is a measure with divisions for quarters and eights.

For music production, FL Studio's expensive but also by far the most popular (like most DAWs are, like 700+$) and kontakt is also like 700$. (There's always the "bay" to get them though... <.<   >.>   )

But yeah, the piano roll like in the screenshot is the notation you use, but you can also use a midi interface like a keyboard and just record directly into the daw as an audio track :3 Hope that helped, leme know if you need any more info, I totally love answering questions :3

@@Aurelleah,

That piano roll interface is extremely fascinating! In many ways, that's like a new form of music notation. It doesn't quite cover my need for a inclusive program which incorporates traditional notation, because I still need to teach the students how to read and write music on a western stave... But it seems a LOT more versatile than Garageband or Mixcraft are.

Come to think of it, can you load an existing midi track into the program and change the instruments to those much nicer ones you used? Sibelius is a traditional music notation program with midi export capabilities. I could create a workflow from Sibelius through to FL Studio... Write a melody in Sibelius, export it as a midi track, and then arrange it using the far superior instrument library in FL!  :squee:

Yep you totally can do that, any sort of midi file works with it! And yeah mixcraft is okay as a daw, but it's a bit more limiting in terms of what you can do. I like garage band, cause its stock instruments sound nice, but yeah FL is amazing. You can export midi into mixcraft/garage band to use with Kontakt too, but it's much more difficult. I'm not sure of what program would be best for teaching western stave style sheet music notation, but in terms of a daw's capability FL's by far the most versatile. The sounds themselves tho come from Kontakt, and while native instruments's VSTs are hella expensive, they're top-of-the-line
