melody5697 195 September 24, 2015 Share September 24, 2015 As some of you may already be aware, I am working on a project involving certain aspects of the brony subcuture. The one I'm having the hardest time with is symbolism. Since the brony subculture is completely centered around MLP, does that mean some symbols in MLP are automatically symbols in the brony subculture? Please don't tell me what to do in any part of my project except the one I'm asking about.
Sunset's Shimmer 394 September 24, 2015 Share September 24, 2015 I would say generalized symbolism as a whole in the pony culture applies to the subculture, while symbolism within the subculture isn't necessarily considered a shared symbolically by the entire herd. Example: All hornets are wasps, but not all wasps are hornets. Dawnchaser 🌄 8,098 September 25, 2015 Share September 25, 2015 (edited) Fingers and thumbs. Anything featured in the show can become part of Brony culture. As the shows content is controlled by the writers & artists and ultimately Hasbro, it's difficult for Brony things to transition into the show (Am I allowed to mention *whispers* Derpy? (I know girl, it's not your fault ;( )) I think we need more examples of how one element influences the other. If something is symbolic in the show it could be symbolic to the Bronies (and Pegasisters) Does that^ lead to further subdivision? Are there things which are symbolic to just the Bronies or just our Pegasisters and not the other? melody5697 195 October 2, 2015 Author Share October 2, 2015 Do the Mane 6 themselves count as symbols? This thing is due on Monday! Please help me! I have to cite a source, so I need somebody to tell me whether or not they count as symbols in the brony co-culture. I can't just say I figured it out myself! (In case you're wondering what I think they're symbols of, I think they're symbols of the elements they represent.)
-Octavia- 1,176 October 2, 2015 Share October 2, 2015 (edited) You already have your answer, then. For the purposes of affirmation: I agree that they represent their respective elements. As a collective symbol, they could represent friendship or harmony. Edited October 2, 2015 by Wubtavia 1 Aria Rosewood
