Courageous Thunder Dash 7,825 December 16, 2015 Share December 16, 2015 Ok. Your string samples are a little MIDIish...they don't have that natural string sound to give it that serene orchestral feel. Instead, they sound artificial, which takes away the feeling of the song. The way you can tell that a string sample is excellent is how it transitions from one individual note to the next. Just by hearing the repeated notes in this remix, the string sample is not very good because it has a cut, which really puts a damper on what your piece will sound like. I suggest you look into Garritan strings. Garritan strings are high quality and natural sounding strings. Their transitions from one pitch to the next are very natural sounding as if real humans were playing them. Speaking of humans...you may need to put some humanization on this track, because again, it really did not have any dynamic variation, articulation variation nor ornaments. Put some crescendos and diminuendos throughout the piece and maybe climax at a certain part before bringing it back down, like a bellcurve. In terms of part assignment, you need more harmonies. Assigning many instruments the main melody is a big no-no, because then the orchestral piece will sound too simple. Make your secondary violins harmonize with the first and your lower strings harmonize using 5ths, 4ths or octaves. Furthermore, your piano sample sounds very digital sounding. It doesn't have that natural character that a piano is known for. Like I said before, add some dynamics and ornaments. Alternatively, invest in a piano sample. I suggest Garritan's Steinway Piano or Yamaha CFX Concert Grand. These pianos offer high-def samples with human playback capabilities, different convolutional settings and reverb characters. Speaking of reverb...if you wanted to keep your strings, I would add a little more reverb. This way, the sample cut would not be as noticeable and the notes will have smoother transitions. Don't add too much reverb though. All in all, it's a decent remix, but I suggest you invest in better samples, which can help your pieces shine brighter.
