Melted Dog 161 March 1, 2016 Share March 1, 2016 (edited) DISCLAIMER: This is just a general guide I use to make my OCs. Derive from it if you want. DISCLAIMER #2: British spelling used here. That's what I *favour*. - On OC Design #1: Can you paint with all the colours of the wind? I'm sure you have been through this: perfect backstory, design, name... for your OC. You click on a drawing program, fingers clicking on keyboard and mouse, then suddenly you come up with this: and realise that you never actually thought about the colours. Here are a few tips and techniques I use to get good colours. - 1: Harmonizing the Colours I take a nice light pastel colour, in this case a lilac purple and set it to a very low opacity. Then, I swipe it a few times across the old colour palette to get a whole entire new palette. Eyedrop the colours you get and voila! This can be done as many times as you want until you get a colour you like. PS. Does example pone look a bit like Firefly to you? - 2: Add it to the Mix We have the original hideous palette and a new example pony. This one is simple: just take the colours from the joining of two colours. Works best, ironically, in bad drawing programs that blur everything. I played with the brightness and saturation a bit before colouring the stallion in.
