Emerald woke up to the sound of her alarm clock ringing she looked around adjusting to her lack of an eye she was awake early as usual and decided to take a shower before she went to school she still had the smell of sea salt in her coat and thought that it wasn't the best way to introduce herself. she walked into the bathroom and spent a good five minuets staring at the mirror longing for her lost optical receptor

Ballpoint swore to herself as she woke up and saw that she only had a few minutes before she had to leave for school. She didn't bother with fixing her mane, not that she would have if she had the time. Ballpoint stuffed all her things into her saddlebags and quickly scarfed down a waffle for breakfast.

 

"Later, mom!" she called as she went out through the front door.

Emerald stepped out the shower only to realise that she had been in there for almost half an hour. she hurried to get her things together. pens, pencils the list went on as she panicked not knowing how school worked. she ran out the door wishing that she was able to get back to sea and look for more buried treasure. but now the world of the landlubber had caught up with her.

It didn't take too long for Ballpoint to get to school, and she was able to make with a few minutes to spare. While she hated school, Ballpoint was ready to get back onto the school newspaper. She had a knack for finding good stories, and it was always fun to dig up dirt.

Emerald arrived and looked around this place was big, bigger than the Golden Retriever. she looked for somepony who could help her find her first class. she wandered through the corridors nervously and attempting to not touch any of the larger ponies on either side of her.

Ballpoint couldn't help but notice a new kid at school who seemed to be lost. What stuck out the most was that she had an eyepatch, and an eyepatch meant there was a story about losing an eye. She just had to know it.

Ballpoint couldn't help but notice a new kid at school who seemed to be lost. What stuck out the most was that she had an eyepatch, and an eyepatch meant there was a story about losing an eye. She just had to know it.

 

"Hey, you lost?" asked Ballpoint as she went up to her.

"oh umm.... yes..." Emerald said nervously attempting to hide her eye patch  but she could see that this mare had already noticed it, and her missing eye. Emerald pushed her mane back behind one of her ears shyly "and don't stare I know about the eye patch just ignore it..."

"Right, right, sorry," she said. "So, anyways, where are you going?"

 

She didn't look like she fit in around here. If anything, this shy girl seemed like she would be more at home on the deck of a ship. Ballpoint was even more curious about her now.

"that's the thing... today's like my first day of school in like... ever..." Emerald kicked her front hoof back and fourth she didn't want to be here she felt trapped she wanted to be back on the sea with her crew searching for adventure and new lands to explore but instead she was in a concrete building with no sight or sound of the sea.

"You're kidding. You're telling me that you've never been to school before? Like ever? Not to sound judgmental or anything, but what the hell have you been doing your whole life that's kept you outta school?" said Ballpoint.

 

She subtly levitated her notebook and pen from her bag as she talked.

"something..." Emerald said not wishing to reveal her secrets to any pony well not yet anyway. she still didn't know if she could trust this mare or not as she seemed a little too curious about Emerald and her past. luckily or unluckily the bell rang at that moment calling all student's to class

"Well, I gotta go. See you around. Oh, I'm Ballpoint by the way," she said as she walked off to class.

This new girl was certainly interesting. She was obviously hiding something, and Ballpoint just had to know what it was.

another spell of bad luck fell on Emerald as she arrived in class after finally learning it's location she was in the same class as Ballpoint for almost everything... she went inside and the class was already under way. she looked around for an empty seat and found one on the desk next to Ballpoint.

Emerald rolled her eye "it's Emerald, Emerald isle." She said not bothering to point her working eye at Ballpoint. The teacher looked up. "Emerald please don't talk in my lesson and the same goes for you Ballpoint, she may only have one eye but she is still here to learn." he said before going back to talking about chemical reactions

She didn't particularly like this teacher, as she felt her lessons were extremely boring. Ballpoint might've skipped this class to go find some dirt on some of the teacher's if she didn't need the grade.

Emerald went back to her work or at least as much as she could do. Emerald looked around confused she had no idea what chemistry even was much less how it worked. she was glad when after a short talk on the workings of noble gasses the bell rang for lunch and the class literally emptied from the first ring

Emerald looked confused. "teacher's lounge what's one of them?" She said "and you shouldn't cover ponies in mud that's just plain weird." Emerald's eye patch was itching she kept scratching at it every few second's hoping that she didn't have to remove and replace it.

Emerald nodded and walked into the bathroom which luckily was empty. she removed her eye patch and ran the leather part of the patch under the cold water. she looked into the mirror and saw a large red and black mass of stuff in the place of what was once her eye. she shed a small tear from her working eye before looking away

Ballpoint couldn't resist and followed a few feet behind Emerald to the bathroom, stopping at the entrance to look in. She quickly scribbled down a few notes about how the eye, or rather lack thereof, looked. It was too interesting to not write down, and she quickly began walking back to the cafeteria after she had done so.

Emerald put her eye patch back on and walked outside to see Ballpoint walking away from her "Hey!" Emerald ran up to her "what the hell!? I told you to wait!" she began to speak in a quiet voice. "you didn't umm... see anything did you? I don't want to become subject that everypony talks about."
