Emerald put her eye patch back on and walked outside to see Ballpoint walking away from her "Hey!" Emerald ran up to her "what the hell!? I told you to wait!" she began to speak in a quiet voice. "you didn't umm... see anything did you? I don't want to become subject that everypony talks about."

"No," lied Ballpoint. "Also, I'm pretty sure you didn't actually tell me to wait. Sorry for running off anyways. Now, it' lunch, and I'm hungry, so let's go eat."

 

Ballpoint felt a pang of guilt when she lied. Her curiosity had gotten the better of her, but Ballpoint could keep her mouth shut if she needed to.

Emerald said whilst the two of them walked. the same group was sitting by the lunchroom's entrance one of them yelled out "oi Patchy you found any treasure yet!?" before laughing and going back to eating. "bloody..." Emerald didn't say the next word and kept walking

"Blow it out your ass," retorted Ballpoint. "I still got those pictures of you from formal last year, and I'm pretty sure you won't be laughing too much if I give them to a certain principal." 

 

She then turned back to Emerald and said, "Like I told you, they're idiots."

"yeah... don't worry about them. I can handle myself in a fight..." Emerald then realised how hungry she was and said "hey Ballpoint? what's good here? I don't recognise anything in particular..." she looked down the line of hot and cold meals which were lying along side the line of students.

"Nothing's good around here. If you're smart, you bring your own lunch because the food here is garbage served on a plate. Oh, and I dunno where you came from, but around here, getting into a fight is a good way to get yourself in trouble. It's kinda frowned upon when we beat each other up."

"I can get a metaphor," said Ballpoint as she sat down and took a brown paper bag out of her saddlebag. "Now, I'm gonna avoid making any bad leprechaun jokes, but remember, this is America. Here, we eat burgers and fries."

 

(I'm assuming America is a thing because Emerald is from Ireland, which makes me think we're talking real countries)

Emerald lent against the wall (of all the countries in the world why was it America why not somewhere cool like Japan?) she thought finishing of her sandwich. "tasted like sand paper..." she said as her tongue dried up from the lack of moisture in the bread

"Told you it was garbage on a plate," said Ballpoint as she pulled her own sandwich and a bag of potato chips from her bag. "Here," she tossed the chips to Emerald. "They'll get the taste of that bread out of your mouth."

"uhh. no thanks..." Emerald said pushing the crisps (potato chips) away. "I'm good with the taste of sandpaper. well for now at least..." she said taking her head off the wall "so what do you guy's do for fun around here?" she said twiddling her hooves whilst waiting for Ballpoint to finish

"Well, TV is a pretty big pastime, although now it's just mostly streaming shows off the internet. Video games are big here too, and so is going on your phone all the time and having old people complain it's ruining us. It's actually kinda hard to pin down what we do for fun. Of course, this is a pretty big country and it can vary from place to place."

Emerald's insides groaned she missed the open sea the isolation and only knowing her now disbanded crew. she felt like crying. she wanted to go home but with no crew and no money she couldn't she was trapped in one of the world's largest countries with no way to return home.

Ballpoint patted Emerald on the back and said, "Chin up. America isn't so bad, and all you really need to do to fit in is eat a burger and wave a gun around. All joking aside, it's a good place to live, and you could do a whole lot worse. How did you end up here anyways?"

Emerald said "I was travelling with some... friends when I got this injury. the leader decided to leave me here with enough money to buy a house until I found someone who could take care of a one eyed pony. " Emerald hadn't told the full story but she didn't feel the need to

"The leader was an extremely kind Stallion he pulled me away from that shit hole I was born in and didn't want me to get hurt any further. I was like his daughter so technically the house is in his name and the paperwork is on-board The Golden Retriever which is the ship he... got me..." Emerald said attempting to not reveal that the ship was stolen

"he was... Important in his... line of work... meaning he had a lot of money..." Emerald could tell that her lies weren't good enough. "okay he was a Pirate. we sailed the seas looking for treasure infact he wasn't all that older than me. we had planned to get married when we became 16 but then I lost my eye... and he left me here hoping no harm would come to me. he said he'd return but he still hasn't... it's been three months..." Emerald teared up

"how? it's not that hard to believe also that my friend is what is called a stereotype for example I am not a ruthless killer or thief . and secondly we are talking about the same hemisphere aren't we? this crew was Irish he was Irish and this wasn't the first time we had met. I used to draw maps of the dock and he came over to see me every time checking up on me. I only realised he was romanticly interested in me when he saved my life. and third yes I have heard of somalia." she said
