ManaMinori 4,145 September 24, 2018 Share September 24, 2018 I began to ponder this when I discovered that Sanrio’s Little Twin Stars, Kiki and Lala were having a cross promotion in Japan with the My Little Pony brand. With a bit of digging, I soon found out that the Little Twin Stars had also had a cross promotion with Cardcaptor Sakura in the past. While some might immediately dismiss the possibilities of these characters existing in the same universe due to drastically different origins, art style, regions, etc. I’m going to attempt to discover what common ground they share and see if enough evidence is unearthed to prove that they do, in fact, exist within the same universe. So let’s begin! A common element within My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Cardcaptor Sakura is magic- primarily, the symbol through which is it channeled. For the pony Twilight Sparkle, it’s the mark that symbolizes her power when united with her friends, which is a six pointed magenta star surrounded by six smaller white stars. This symbol bears a striking similarity to CCS’s main character, Sakura Kinomoto’s magical staff’s center, which is also a six-pointed star surrounded by six smaller ones. Where do the Little Twin Stars, Kiki and Lala come in? Well according to their backstory, they were born on Omoiyari Star (star of compassion), in the Yume-star cloud. “Yume” in Japanese, means “dream”. And interestingly enough, CCS’s Sakura’s developing powers connects her to the realm of dreams and allows her to materialize objects out of her dreams into reality, which is where her “clear cards” and Dream Staff/ wand originate. Who else has a star wand? Lala does. And it was able to lead her and Kiki to Earth, for them to start spreading happiness there. Furthermore, what we learn about Kiki and Lala is that they have a pet unicorn that they ride on through the starry skies. One of the more common races of pony in My little Pony: Friendship is Magic are...unicorns. Twilight Sparkle even started off as one! But there’s one little unicorn in particular that I think could be tied to these three franchises and perhaps explain whether they are all existing in the same universe or not. That little pony may very well be a toyline exclusive named Star Dreams. Her name alone is telling, but unfortunately, there really isn’t much to go on with her character because she IS a toyline exclusive that has never been utilized or explored. I’ve created theories and fanfics addressing the crossover and potential possibilities of MLP and CCS through this very obscure filly before. But really (and sadly)- while common threads do exist, there’s just not not enough information available across CCS, MLP, and LTS to say with absolute conviction that they are in a shared universe.
