TheUnknownPhantom5 69 Thursday at 04:20 AM Share Thursday at 04:20 AM I've been writing a fanfiction that sees Godzilla enter Equestria to do battle against a new monster summoned by Grogar with The CMCs being some of the central characters in it. There is a moment in the story where Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo want to know why Apple Bloom her happy go lucky self and instead more quiet and reserved, and so they read her diary and learn of why she's been so distance. When I wrote the chapter that moment happened in originally I had Apple Bloom see them with her diary, and she gets rightfully angry and storms off resulting in her getting captured. However I have since rewritten the chapter to have Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo hide Apple Bloom's diary before she sees them with it, and the two of them lie to her by saying everything is alright after she asks them what's wrong, to which Apple Bloom accepts and goes off own her own. Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo are later confronted by Diamond Tiara and Twilight who berate them for Reading Apple Bloom's diary. I want to know which version is better the first one or the second one? SharpWit 2,938 Thursday at 04:00 PM Share Thursday at 04:00 PM I'm curious, how do Twilight and Daimond Tiara find out, and does their interaction remain unknown to Sweetie Bell, or does she find out what they did at some point regardless? Diary's can be great devices for exposition or surprise reveals, and as you're doing, an easy way to create a moment of conflict around privacy, respect of boundaries, and betrayals of trust. They can also be overused, particularly in a "children's" setting. One benefit you have as an independent author, is not having to follow tropes to the letter. What I mean by that, is bad acts don't have to have consequences, because that's a reflection if real life, sadly enough. Depending on how it plays out, I find the berating from characters outside of that moment more interesting, but if you're really stuck on that, you can also just have Applebloom and Scootaloo get away with it. Um it's Apple Bloom's Diary not Sweetie Belle's, and Diamond Tiara and Twilight know because they overhear the conversation.
