IvoryVinyl 48 July 4, 2012 Share July 4, 2012 This is a rough draft of the first chapter of a fanfic I'm working on. This will be a mystery with a little bit of Noir satire mixed in. Go ahead and read, and tell me what you think. C - Une ville est à la recherche d'un cheval Chapter I “I guess this is the place.” “Eeyup.” “Are you ready to go in?” “Eeyup.” Applejack and Big Macintosh get out of their buggy and into the rain. It's not the best weather to pay a visit to an old friend especially in formal attire, but they needed to get away from a while, and this was the best excuse. The Apple family has been busier than ever since Sweet Apple Acres went enterprise. The stress has been taking a toll on the two siblings, so they left the business to Apple Bloom, who knows enough to make most small decisions. It's been a while since Applejack has seen Rarity, and when she invited her to a small party comprising of their old friends, she couldn't refuse. She hasn't heard from them for a long time, and wants to reconnect with them. She's not sure why her brother is here, though. He seemed distant from her friends, but he insisted on going to see them. Nevertheless, they're now at Rarity's doorstep in Manehattin to meet the new lives of old friends. Big Macintosh lifts the door knocker, but the door opens before he has a chance to knock. Him and Applejack enter to find a house much bigger than they could have expected from looking at the outside. It's a Gothic style house with incredibly high ceilings supported by columns and high ceilings spread throughout the rooms opening to a grand staircase. It looks more like a ballroom than it does somepony's house. It's hard to imagine there are two more floors to this. The door closes behind them and they turn around to see Fluttershy where the door was. She looks just as the two remember her, with a little fading to her coat, but she didn't look like she was here for a party. Her hair is in a simple bun, and she was in what seemed like a uniform. “Fluttershy, aren't you getting ready for the party?” a familiar voice rang out. “I am Miss Rarity,” Fluttershy answered in her usual whisper, “I was just opening the door for the guests.” “I can take care of the guests. Just go,” Rarity demanded walking down the stairs and shooing her off, “Servant or not, nopony should look like that going to a party.” She turned to Applejack and Big Macintosh. “I can't believe you made it!” she said embracing Applejack, “And you brought Big Macintosh with you too. I'm so glad you two are here. Now, if you could get your bags, I have rooms prepared upstairs.” “We mighty appreciate it,” Applejack starts, “but we already booked a hotel for the week.” “Oh, no you don't,” Rarity protests, “No friends of mine will stay at a hotel. Now go check out of that atrocious place, and come back here with your bags.” “Okay, okay,” Applejack says trying to calm her down, “If you insist.” “I'll take care of it,” Big Macintosh says opening the door. He closes the door behind him and a buggy driving away can be heard from outside. “As I said, there are rooms for the both of you,” Rarity says, “Just go upstairs and straight. You'll find it with your name on it.” Applejack nods and goes upstairs. The second floor looks fairly similar to the front of the first floor. The exception is a different color tile and the stairs are against the walls and rotate to the floor above. In between the two staircases is a hallway. Applejack walks down the hallway to find a set of doors with names written on paper to indicate whose room belongs to whom. She reads the names of each one: Twilight Sparkle & Spike, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and Applejack. Big Macintosh wanted to come last minute, so there is no room for him, but Applejack thinks they can share a room. Fluttershy probably has a room in the servants chamber, so there wouldn't be a need for a room for her here. Applejack decides that everypony is accounted for, so she goes into her room. She opens the door to a Southern Ranch style room very similar to the one she had before she and Big Mac took over the family business. It's a far cry from her riverside house built by three different architects, but she loves it all the same. She doesn't care about her nice clothes when she literally jumps into bed for a quick nap while waiting for the others to get here. Signature by PixiGlow.
