Vicke 3,189 August 19, 2012 Share August 19, 2012 I'd personally recommend 1920x1200. 1920x1080 pictures look a bit weird on 1920x1200 monitors, which are quite common in higher-end computers. I'm sorry to ask you now when you got some time off but, how come the option to get an image/wallpaper from the Internet removed?Thought it was an awesome feature since the ones you upload only can be 255kB. I don't want people uploading huge background images because they have the potential to seriously slow down page loads. As the images would be hosted off-site, I don't even have any control over the speed of the servers hosting them. Additionally, when images are hosted off-site, there's no telling how long they'll exist. Some sites, like Photobucket, may pull your image down if you exceed a transfer volume limit. Some suffer from slow, overloaded servers. Some delete your images after some time. It is possible to increase the 255 KB limit on images uploaded to MLP Forums, but that's not something I plan to do at this time. 1 Avatar credit: robinrain8 Signature credit: Kyoshi

Because right now, you can hardly upload anything as your background. I think it's a miracle that Speedy could get such good quality with that amount of data, Also, if i upload an image with 255KB here in this post, will it slow down the server just as much it would do as my background? The concern is slowdown on your end, not the server's. Residential Internet connections don't usually scream with speed. Uploading an attachment for a post won't slow things down too much because it will create a compressed thumbnail of the image. Lossless and nearly-lossless techniques exist for compressing your background image, and Speedy Transition seems to make good use of them. I'd suggest asking him how he does it. Atleast for now. Speedy sure did a great job and for now, the limit doesn't bug me that much since i got a neat Background xP But oh dear, it was annoying as buck to go through every single image just to find out it was to big or in the end, the image was so small it got covered by HUD. I would say, at least 500KB or 1MB. It might be a huge difference, i don't know but just so all the members can upload what they want and not have that boring default background EDIT: I never made a new thread! What is this witchcraft!? Edited August 19, 2012 by Vicke Signature made by Kyoshi

What is this witchcraft!? The default background is boring? You know, it was a lot of work to get it made, have it automatically extend to fit the length of the page, and go "lights out" at night. 500 KB or 1 MB is huge for an image on the Internet. My Internet access is through my cellphone right now, and it tops out at ~100 KB/s under good conditions. 500 KB would take at least five seconds to download; 1 MB would take ten. If your image is turning out at that size, I honestly think you haven't done everything you can to compress it properly. Unless you're doing something fancy with transparency (which there's no real reason to with a profile background), it shouldn't be a huge problem to fit within the existing limit. I moved our discussion to a new thread, because you hijacked an unrelated suggestion thread with a new suggestion. It's more organized to discuss each suggestion on its lonesome. 1 Avatar credit: robinrain8 Signature credit: Kyoshi

Haha, thats not what i meant, the default one is good but i prefer a different style <3.And i guess you got me on that one, i hardly know anything when it comes to editing 10 seconds is a little beastly, but i think 5 seconds is OK if you are on a cell phone.
