Critique for my fanfiction

Please forgive me if there is a thread already dedicated to this topic, or if this is in the incorrect spot.  But I've been attempting to give some exposure to a story of mine, and I'm not particularly sure on how I should be going about it.  How do people normally go about spreading the word about their work without coming off as obnoxious?  I feel the best way for me to get better at writing is to have as many people read it as possible, giving constructive criticism along the way.  That and I suppose you all could say I'm a bit jelly when it comes to seeing the front page of Fimfiction...
