Uploading with Metadata

THE UPLOADER KICKS ASS. it's fast and, so far, reliable, and easy to use. Dragging and dropping is always an imprssive feat on a website. However, It's time consuming to have to go into each song to edit the metadata by hand, including publish date, album into, genere, and cover art. Those options mentioned ought to be there to edit at the time of upload...ESPECIALLY album art.

I suggest that there should be an option to automaticly add metadata such as album art, publish info, and license automatically based on values made at the time of album creation if it is determined that the track being published is part of said album. I cannot express my displeasure at the tedious work i now must do to insure the information for all my songs on this particular album have consistent data

Glad you're liking the uploader! The idea was to make it easy for people to get their back catalogue up on Pony.fm, as brony music was well established long before Pony.fm launched.

I have some plans for an album uploader, so that you can create an album first and then upload tracks directly into it. I like the idea of setting a few of the tags normally reserved for tracks on albums so that tracks uploaded into that album initially inherit its tags, so I'll try to make that happen when the time comes to build the album uploader.

Centralized album cover management has come up before, and the main complication with that one as opposed to the other tags is that album covers are files, which don't fit very neatly into a relational database, and are currently coupled very closely to the track they're uploaded for. One thought is to make covers a logical entity in their own right, so you can upload an image once, then attach it freely to any album or track you want - not unlike the way Gravatar lets you attach one image to many email addresses. That would require fundamentally re-engineering the way Pony.fm handles covers, but it might be well worth it if it'll encourage more album uploads.

Thanks for the suggestions!
