RobberBrony 12 July 19, 2013 Share July 19, 2013 (edited) So I've got four pages done of a fanfic I plan to do about the ancestors of some of the canon characters (specifically Twilight and the Princesses) The basic idea was inspired by the song Look Closer by Clockwork Quartet and the story of William Herschel's drive for discovering other planets. An astronomer (Twilight's Great Grandad) is driving himself insane trying to disprove the existence of the royal alicorns in a time where they were worshipped by practically everyone. I was considering making it the other way around, but I dunno, I felt like this might be more interesting, if it comes off a bit anti-atheist that really wasn't my intention. So anyway, this is the time before the job of raising the sun and moon were given over to Celestia and Luna, so there were a huge family of alicorns that split up the jobs of bringing on night and day. The Princess in charge of making the stars twinkle sees the astronomer is going nuts and decides to save his sanity by presenting herself to him and gifting him with a set of lenses powerful enough to see other planets and even the realm she and her family lived in. I haven't quite figured out any progression for it, but eventually the astronomer does something for the Princesses and his family is favored for generations, right down to Twilight herself which is why she is so close to Celestia Since I want this to be set in a victorian-esque society, it might contradict something about the history of Equestria, but I just figured it was a time in which everyone believed in the Princesses, but they rarely made themselves known. If it clashes too much, I suppose I'll just have to alternate universe this bitch up. That's basically it though, I would really appreciate a tip or two on what I could change, what I could do. Have a peek for listening to my rambling and/or giving me any ideas to spruce it up She smiled softly and draped a wing over his back to stop him before he had a chance to start. “I get it, Aphelion. They move. More than you do these days, I might add.” she giggled. She shifted her feathers to lay against the back of his head and urged his eyes down to the rooftops of the city.“You may try getting your head out of the skies for an afternoon and have a day outside this cramped little room.” “They think I'm mad,” he muttered, “Just because I don't believe in celestial pegacorns and ponies in the sky granting wishes and handing out sunlight.” “Darling, can we be honest with ourselves a moment?” she chuckled, touching her nose to his, “You're a little mad.” “All the greatest inventors and scholars were considered mad in their times! Until they found that one thing that made them right! They were still mad as hamsters but they were mad and right!” He looked up at her after a moment of brooding silence. How she hated that look. When he spoke of his dreams of being a respected mad man, his face flooded with a pitiful look, like a dog that had lost it's way, an odd mixture of sadness and misplaced hope that you can help them find their masters. “I only want to be right. I'll be happy and mad and I'll gladly never step a hoof in here again if I can just prove that I'm mad and right.” “You're lying. You could never abandon this dinky little rat's nest and you know it, discoveries or no discoveries, I'll be finding you in here at all hours of the night until you're old and withered and too weak to climb the stairs up here.” Edited July 19, 2013 by RobberBrony
