Phoenix237 353 July 31, 2013 Share July 31, 2013 If this does not belong here then can someone please tell me so I can have it moved to where it belongs. Thank you So I've been thinking of creating a story (short series? I don't know exactly but I have a good idea on the world i'm creating). Anyways after reading an Avengers comic where they travel to multiple worlds (was okay story). Anyways what's was interesting about one world was that it was nightmare (or monster) versions of the Heros. Spiderman was a spider creature, Captaine America was a Werewolf, Hawkeye was a raven hawk thing?, Thor was a mummy?, Wolverine was a vampire (not sure how that works). Anyways I wanted to create an alternative world in MLP based on this concept. That everyone (mostly everyone there will be regulars, but that will be in the story) is a type of monster. And I know your probably thinking that it might be a monster high thing but NO!!. What I want to do is create a story in a world where most of the residents are monsters and the conflicts it leads to not only with the regular, but with the diversity of creatures that exist. Who is better? What is right and wrong? Is there a right or wrong? How should things be governed? And I do want to add dark elements, but not to a point that it's gore. There may be dark scences and maybe some cools fights, but not too much. I have some ideas down and it's a working progress right now. So what's the problem? Well there are two. The first is whether I should do this as a fic or as a comic/ Tumbler series. And I know I should make this decision myself, but it's always a good idea to ask for opinions. For visual representation, I'm decent at making my images, though I'm not sure if I can pull of the look that I want. I'm decent and could proably do it (maybe i'm doubting muself and thats no good), but i get a nagging feeling that i can't even though i probably very well could. That said I'll still give it a go. As for it being written, while it may be easier on me not having to draw, I'm not that good when it comes to describing scence or making visual images. I tried, but it was hard. That doesn't mean I won't try to learn or ask for help. I guess what I'm saying is what do you guys think. And for the second one which is the one I wanted more help on. As I said this is a world where that characters are monsters. So naturally the mane six (or most of them) have to be monsters. Here is the thing.... I don't know what Granted I have some ideas already •Rarity will be a vampire (don't see why I need to explain that one) •Applejack for some reason gives me a werewolf. Don't know why but I could see it work. •Twilight would be a necro-Mage, or one that specializes in undead magic. Why? Becaus it fits with the magic and monster theme. And that's what I have for the mane six so far I don't know what the others could be. So that's what I need help on. What would the mane six monster versions be An yes you may see monster versions of your favorite background character, but those are for latter. Thank your for reading and I appreciate any feedback.
Silverwisp the Bard 2,353 July 31, 2013 Share July 31, 2013 Oh I like the concept, gotta gie my two cents: Twilight: Lich Rarity: Vampire/Sucubus Pinkie: Huommunkulus/Frankenstein's Monster (constantl going to bits) Fluttershy: Mummy (shy, tends to cover her face in bandages) Rainbow Dash: Harpy Applejack: Werewolf I think it might work better as a comic: You tend to imagine characters in their original form, without visual stimulation. 1 My Art Thread, updated (almost) daily Tomorrow will take us away, far from home No one will ever know our names But the bard songs will remain. Blique 211 July 31, 2013 Share July 31, 2013 (edited) I always like the idea of going for lesser-known monsters. You could make Fluttershy a huldra, for example. They look pretty at first, but are "hollow like an old tree trunk" from the back. Some traditions state that they lure males with their beauty, but others just describe them as being lovely and kind, as long as you don't see their back. Fluttershy has the most "split personality" traits of everyone as she goes from shy to excited, or shy to enraged. It fits in with her love of nature, and the hole can be covered with her hair so people can't tell at first. It allows for a lot of good plot ideas. The rest I'm not very inspired though. Lich would be perfect if it's Twilicorn...But otherwise, seems too overpowered; not only would she have the power to raise the dead, she'd require the power to raise herself from the dead while still keeping full memories, intelligence, and powers intact. If it's just unicorn Twilight, a plain necromancer sounds best. Pinkie Pie could be an imp or goblin, as they're known for being mischievous. Harpies are nice for Rainbow, as they have a "fast" sort of impression. I feel like those two aren't quite perfect enough for the characters though, so some research into lesser known creatures could be in order. Buddhist Reaper 7 August 1, 2013 Share August 1, 2013 Rosario + Vampire is a manga with the themes you mentioned. There is one human at a school for only monsters. Major conflicts between certain groups of monsters and monsters that are looked down upon (Witches kicked out of both human and monster world, Monstrels are hodgepodge monsters that are looked down upon). I'd recommend looking into the monsters from the series because the way that it describes each type of monster is done very well. But to put my opinion about what each of the monsters would be (mostly based on the way monsters work in Rosario + Vampire) Twilight: Witch- Exiled monster that looks human but has very strong magical ability Rarity: Succubus- Uses specialized magic to lure in people and make them fall in love with them, care about beauty over smarts Rainbow Dash: Werewolf- Faster than a vampire (most powerful monster) but not as strong. In moonlight the abilities of a werewolf can't be stopped by a vampire. Pinkie: Ghoul- Once human who now has the blood of a vampire infused with its blood. Needs a soul lock to keep the blood in check or goes completely insane and kills everything and everyone (can only be stopped by a vampire or werewolf). Can harness the power of the vampire blood through the soul lock when in danger or when friends are in danger. Fluttershy: Doplegänger- Not very strong, able to hide by changing form into other monsters and copy their abilities, takes the strength of whoever they transform into, can also transform other people to look a certain way. (Nothing really has the ability over animals to my knowledge so I chose one that was a shy, weak one with an amazing ability of hiding) Applejack: Vampire- Super strong, strongest of the monster world. Kind of OP but can still be beaten by a werewolf. Weakness to water of any kind unless treated with special herbs. Can use a Rosario to keep the vampire power in check. Does not look strong naturally but has an ability to call for supernatural levels of energy and power that cause super strength.
Phoenix237 353 August 2, 2013 Author Share August 2, 2013 Thank you all for your help. Its helped me a lot. @SilverWasp the Bard thanks for your help. It gave me some new ideas and possibilities @Blique thanks for the advice on looking at lesser know monsters. I found many that while it might not work for the mane six as characters, they could work for other characters or creatures @Buddhist Reaper I had no idea about that series. I'll look it up and see if I can find anything to influence my work.
