"Hey Blast, do you mind if we go check on my mum?" Madrid asked "I just haven't seen her since the crash and... well, I just want to make sure she's alright"

Blast got off the stool and next to Madrid. "Of course, Madrid. We'll check up on her if you want." Madrid and Blast walked to the medical office of the base. In there was a recovering Mrs. Sunshine. "Hi, Mrs. Sunshine. Feeling any better?"

"I feel like a bag of onions that's been dragged through hell" Talia groggily looked at the two "Hey there Madrid"

 

"Mother!" Madrid hugged the bed-ridden pony

 

"Oh jeez! Careful round the stomach... and the back... and the neck"

 

"Sorry"

 

Talia turned to Blast "I take it you're the one who saved me?"

Blast nodded. "I guess I should introduce myself. I'm Blasted Nova, but you can call me Blast for short. Your daughters have told me about you. They missed you dearly and worried for you, so I ran out into the desert, found you, and brought you back here." Blast walked next to the bed-ridden mare. "But, enough of that. You're probably terribly ill."

"You bet your ass I am" Talia muttered "Anyways, I'm grateful for what you did, youngster. It's good to know not everyone is an complete bastard after a crash landing" She looks around the hospital shack "Say, you wouldn't know where my husband is by any chance? Last I saw him was back at the crash site"

Blast just remembered the incident with Mr.Sunshine. He totally forgot from recent events. "Well... he was... murdered. We found the bullet in his skull, but we couldn't track down who it was. The killer left no signs of his current whereabouts. All we found was the bullet, and a massive head fracture caused by a blunt weapon."

"Eh, I'm not surprised" She shrugs "The idiot has it coming. I was expecting this"

 

Madrid gives a concerned look at her mum "Mum..."

 

"I'm sorry honey, I guess the medication is making feel weird" Talia said "It's shame about him though"

She points over to the other unconscious pony, the one rescued earlier by Leo and Blast.

"Don't worry, Thomas will be alright" Talia reassured "If it was that bad, he'd of died by now"

 

Time passes. Talia tells Blast about her position as navigator on the Unity and how she was with Admiral Sun Rider moments before he died, although she didn't witness the murder.

 

"The thing is, an hour before he died, we had a break out in the jail section" She said "There's a strong chance that the criminal committed the murder"

"But you don't know which criminal it was?" Blast asked. "You said you didn't witness this, so I assume that you don't know who killed him. But, I can't believe you were the navigator of this hunk of metal before it came falling. How did you manage to survive that?"

"Not many people on the bridge survived, that was the most fragile part ironically" Talia rolled her eyes "All those other ponies at that crash site were among some of the most important positions on the ship. The admiral, the chief engineer, pilots... Shame most of them are now gone"

 

She goes silent for a minute before continueing.

 

"I'm no engineer myself, but 'Unity' was built for crash landing. However, it was a prototype, so not everything is 100% reliable"

Blast gave a sad look. "So, they're almost all dead?" Blast felt a little empty inside now, but h tried not to let that ruin his hope. "I'm sure we can rebuild the Unity, though. And not just rebuild it into a prototype. I'm talking about making it into a fully functional space craft capable of getting us back to Equestria."

"Heh, don't get you're hopes up sonny" Talia coughed "It took a lot of ponypower to build that over the course of 10 years. I doubt we have the skills, ponies, resources or time to do it in"

 

Madrid frowned at the despressing thought.

 

"Uh... but on the other hand though, we did have quite a few intellectuals on our ship. If they survived... I guess it would be possible they could make a smaller ship for the rest of us"

A shine of hope came upon Blast's face. "Cool! If we were to search the remains of the Unity, we might be able to find those geniuses and they could help us." Blast gained more confidence and hope. There still might be a chance of getting off of this rock for good.

"It's still a longshot" Talia shrugged "But... I guess it's worth taking a look at. I'd ask Romula about it, seeing as she's running things here"

 

She looked around the room again, then to Madrid.

 

"Where is that damn sister of yours? I thought she'd have the courtesy to visit by now"

"She's actually with Romula right now. They've been talking all day." Blast butted into the conversation. "Then I guess I'll go and ask the captain about the ship. I'll catch you two later." Blast ran to the shack and entered through the broken door. "Romula, I request permission to investigate the wreck of the Unity."

"Uh..." Romula quickly stood up from the couch "Hide the whiskey" she whispered to Violet

 

She walked up to Blast, slightly tipsy, but still in control.

 

"Which bit? The 'Unity' broke up into all sorts of parts, and we don't know where most of them are. Do you have a particular one in mind?

Blast continued to speak. "Any remaining part of the interior that you know of. Mrs. Sunshine said something about some of the geniuses on the ship still remaining. She thinks that if we find them, we can build a way off this rock!" Blast said with enthusiasm.

"Oh bloody hell... not this again" Romula rubbed her eyes "I had this talk with another civilian. I find it highly improbable that other ponies survived. Sure, you might get a few stragglers, but they're not as well off as us. They could be dead or gone mad by now, just like those assholes who tried to attack our base"

Blast couldn't stand it. He wasn't about to die on this sand trap of a planet. "I'm still going to try. Unless you have the alicorn amulet lying around for me to use, we'll have to resort to the unlikelihood of survivors. We're getting out of here, one way or another."

"You don't make the rules here kid" Romula said sternly "I might be on break right now, but I assure you that it's dangerous out there! I'm not letting you leave until the Marines get back. That's that"

 

Violet walked up to the commotion "Guys, let's calm down a bit, please?"

 

((OCC: Romula won't let you leave, but there is a way of getting around it without waiting for the Marines))

Blast was starting to get angry. He hated being held back from his goals. He wasn't even part of the Marine branch, and he's being told to stay put?? Blast lowered his head and sighed. "Yes, Ma'am." He walked out of the shack and began thinking. "I need to get out of here now! I can't wait for those Marines to get back. If we just stay and do nothing, there could be pony geniuses out there dying."

"I can help" A pony said as he walked out of the shadows "I heard everything"

 

It was Peppermint. He was stoic as always, apart from an uncharacteristic hint of energy in his eyes.

 

"I understand that Romula is holding you back. And it could take days before the Marines come home. However, I can fix that for you"

Blast was surprised. Peppermint, the second-in-command, is willing to help this pony that isn't even in his league? "Are you sure? I know you care about your position, Peppermint, but why help me? I'm not even in the Marines. On top of that, how are you going to help me?"

Peppermint looked around to make sure no-pony was nearby. He then pulled Blast into the shadows.

 

"We both know Romula is too much of an inflexible leader. She keeps referring to the rules used on the 'Unity' and applies it to us"

Peppermint lowered his voice "It's not working. Which means she's compromising everypony's safety here. You must notice that, right?"

Blast nodded. "I understand that if we don't do anything, ponies will die and we'll go down with them. This is a harsh planet that we know nothing about. We can't just sit here and do nothing." Blast then got back to the subject. "Anyways, we need to get a move on. Ponies might be dying out there."
