First Large Scale Greater Toronto Area Convention - Any Thoughts?

Hello Everypony,

 

    I am an ambitious Brony attempting to create something that does not exist in the Greater Toronto Area. My team and I have begun to draw up plans for the event, however, I am a little nervous too. I have no idea what desire there is to see a large scale Toronto based convention, let alone a first time one. There is another convention attempting to get off the ground in the area, however, my ideas and wishes are a little grander (i.e. celebrity guests, events, panels, etc.). My question to you guys is, what is the desire for such an event, if any? Thoughts?

I am from (near) the GTA and I'd love to do a meetup there, at least (a convention is a bit hard to put together, and I suspect that BronyCAN, if all goes well, will be in Toronto next year [rather, I hope]).

I would definitely go and I would totally be happy to do any job that needs be done (though my talents only lie in P.R. and writing).

If you'd like my Skype so you can discuss plans, then please, send me a PM, because I'd like to see this go through. Unfortunately, you cannot expect too much from a first pass-after one, maybe it can expand next year. Try to get local "brony celebrities" first.

Is this CANterlot you're talking about? I know they were trying to get funds, and were working on getting VAs as guests of honour..but lack of funds prevented it from happening.

 

I totally support this idea. As I know a local Furry Con (Furnal Equinox) just had it's 4th year this year. There's also Anime North, which is huge. Ther's also another furry con called "Condition"I know the people that run both Furnal Equinox and Condition, so I'll see if I can get their contact info. See if they got any pointers for you in starting a local con.

Thank-you for the assistance. Be advised that we are not CANterlot and have already asked their team if we are allowed to create our own con. CANterlot has allowed us to make one for the area, but did give us a friendly warning on just how difficult it can be to host one. This being said, any and all advice, tips, tricks, and pointers are greatly appreciated. Also be advised that as of tonight we already have our first guest. All details will become public once the convention is solid. Will keep everypony posted.
