Hiram32 20 September 5, 2013 Share September 5, 2013 Hi everypony! I'm new here (and to the fandom in general) but ever since I started watching MLP and reading forums, I have been pulled in by the general message of "love and tolerance". Hearing about bronies raising money for charities, and the general attitude of acceptance in the fandom reminded me of the general tenants of freemasonry, and got me wondering how many bronies may also be masons. I can't possibly be the only one! Anypony on here like to chime in?
Harmonic Revelations 8,837 September 5, 2013 Share September 5, 2013 (edited) I have expressed interest in it before, but being in a kind of gentlemens' club isn't really something I have time for as of late. Hansel 1,512 September 5, 2013 Share September 5, 2013 (edited) My dad was marble mason for quite a large chunk of his life. He left when things became more "Industrial". Apparently the machines started to do a large chunk of the creative work, and left him lifting and dropping huge chunks of marble without really cutting and carving them himself. He used to make me stuff. Da-boom tss. Edited September 5, 2013 by Hansel 3 Pancakes taste like well seasoned DVD cases.
Hiram32 20 September 5, 2013 Author Share September 5, 2013 @@Hansel, I guess I should've been more specific! @@Harmonic Revelations, That's cool, not a lot of people have time for lodge meetings around here, but I go to mine regularly. Not sure if any other members there are bronies, but we'll find out at the next meeting when I throw an MLP pin on my lapel.

Fluttermena 1,223 September 6, 2013 Share September 6, 2013 So what's the deal with freemasons? I know there are a lot of stories floating around, but I don't trust these kinds of rumours. What's the real story from a mason's mouth?
Mand'alor Dash 2,225 September 6, 2013 Share September 6, 2013 Bronies in the super-secret club that secretly controls the entire world? Sweet! Hey, at your next lodge meeting, can you order President Obama to outlaw Alicorn Twilight? The community would really appreciate it. I kid, I kid. Amoral cynic with a bitchin' vocabulary. Hansel 1,512 September 6, 2013 Share September 6, 2013 (edited) So what's the deal with freemasons? I know there are a lot of stories floating around, but I don't trust these kinds of rumours. What's the real story from a mason's mouth? I think people just confuse the Freemasons with the Illuminati. To the best of my knowledge, the organisation was started by stonemasons in the medieval era. From what I understand, Stonenmasons were one of the few types of people who understood mathematics and geometry, and were thus highly regarded at the time. I'd imagine It's why rumors started to float around when they set up a club. It's the middle ages, and a bunch of guys that can do a great and powerful magic set up an exclusive and somewhat secretive brotherhood. Well, surely there must be something sinister going on... Speaking as a non-Mason, of course. Edited September 6, 2013 by Hansel Pancakes taste like well seasoned DVD cases.
Hiram32 20 September 6, 2013 Author Share September 6, 2013 So what's the deal with freemasons? I know there are a lot of stories floating around, but I don't trust these kinds of rumours. What's the real story from a mason's mouth? As @Hansel already pointed out, there is a lot of history with regards to stonemasons and trade secrets, which definitely helped start misguided rumors. But in my opinion, since 1717 Freemasonry has had nothing to do with operative stonemasonry, and is nothing more than a fraternal order (similar to the odd fellows, elks, moose, etc.) I've been a mason since before I knew anything about MLP, but when I started watching MLP I noticed some similarities between the fandom and what was being discussed in lodge. Specifically, the three tenants of brotherly love, relief and truth... Of course, brotherly love reminded me of the comradery within the brony community. The general idea that two people can disagree in a civil way and still be friends. I don't know how many YouTube comments I've read between bronies illustrating this point. Relief refers to charity. Once again I have read numerous accounts of bronies banding together to help people in need, including those not even associated with the fandom. Finally truth, which can be kind of a stretch. Generally, truth refers to constantly seeking truth, but to relate it to MLP it reminds me of trying not bto be ignorant. When I first heard of bronies I immediately thought many of the typical negative things. However, I decided to give the show the benefit of the doubt and watch it without bias. And well...now I'm here! Just my thoughts on some of the similarities.
ArcanaCelestia 0 February 7, 2015 Share February 7, 2015 (edited) Sorry to be really, really late to the party (please don't tell Pinkie), but I definitely am feeling the whole harmony connection (among others). If you mixed MLP with the Egyptian mystery cults, the result would include a good chunk of speculative masonry. Fraternal brohoof, Bro. DATA EXPUNGED 324 February 9, 2015 Share February 9, 2015 (edited) Well, when I turn 21 in a couple months, I will keep the family tradition of joining the freemasonry. Our Masonic rite is The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. Edited February 9, 2015 by DATA EXPUNGED Does the Onion grace my presence?
