Synesthesia

So today I was going to get an old Internet friend of mine to help me run a horror film stream for a site I moderate on. They've never much liked the genre, so when I asked it they told me that they couldn't. Though I insisted they at least help me set up, they finally told me they actually have mirror touch.

 

Mirror touch is a really rare form of the neurological phenomenon known as "synesthesia", which is basically when one sense triggers another sense. The most common kind is generally grapheme -> colour which is the relation between a colour and a certain letter or number. However, mirror touch is a lot less common, and it's generally classified as when you see someone get touched, you feel yourself getting touched as well. This includes, therefore, sensations of pain. Hence why she can't watch horror movies.

 

I've always had an interest in this, so I was surprised it didn't tell me, LOL. And now my research has once more been renewed. c:

 

So does anyone else on this site have synesthesia or know of someone who does? If so, what kind is it, and what is it like?

Wow... That sounds extremely interesting! Unfortunately I have never heard of such a state of mind and would not be much help in this particular instance. If you find any reading material on the subject I would love to partake in your research endeavors.

I have heard of this. In fact, Beethoven had this. In a nutshell, you're able to smell colours, taste noise, what you stated etc. It's wierd as hell, but certainly an interesting condition.
