Greetings fellow Bronies and Pegasisters. My name is The GeekBAH, but my birth certificate claims it's Brent. I am new to Brony-ism and My Little Pony, gaining interest after finding a video on YouTube called Smile HD. I saw Brony reaction videos to Smile HD and began to wonder what grown men see in the show. I'm willing to try anything once, so I decided to give the show a try. I just finished season one last night as well as the first two episodes of season 2 (LOVE Discord btw). I was at Youmacon in Detroit, Michigan where I went to a MLP:FIM based video panel. But enough about the basics, let's get down to the nitty gritty.

 

I am Brent Hauserman, a twenty one year old male college student living in Michigan just outside of Detroit. I live with my father and brother and currently work (unhappily) at Wendys, where I work the grill and/or fry station. This is the second semester of my second year of college, though I try to forget the horrible first year I spent at Baker College of Flint. I now go to Macomb Community College for English Education. I am a born-again Christian and am active in my church. I even work in AWANA, the childrens ministry. I am a writer and have been for going on twelve years now. I recently finished my first full-length story (a fan-fiction based on The Elder Scrolls video game series) and am working on beginning the sequel. I am a gamer as well, having played for as long as I can remember. I mostly play on my Nintendo 3DS or computer, but I also have an Xbox 360. I like all kinds of games (except shooters) and my all-time favorite is The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I also love the Pokemon franchise though, and have played it since it began. I love anime and manga, my top three being Naoki Urasawa's Monster, One Piece, and Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai. I love cartoons as well and my favorite of those is probably Avatar: The Last Airbender.

 

I run a review page on Facebook called GeekBAH Reviews, on which I review anime, movies, television, and pretty much anything else. I am currently embroiled in series' such as MLP Vlogs, One Piece Vlogs, and the GeekBAH AMVs. I do take suggestions and am willing to do almost anything. I am not the best and often have trouble using clips due to YouTube making absurd claims against me, but whenever I am able I use them.

 

A couple weeks ago I was on YouTube and came across a video called Smile HD on pure accident. I watched up until Pinkie Pie was shown, then closed the tab. Not long after I was asked to watch it by someone who said he wanted to see my reaction to it. So I caved and gave it another look with him breathing down my shoulder. I laughed, I cried, I cringed, and I dropped my jaw. It was so horrible, but so addictingly awesome at the same time. Then, my friend showed me some peoples reaction videos and through watching them I got thinking; why do adult males like this show? Why do they react so strongly to this Smile HD? Am I missing something?

 

I now know that I indeed was missing a lot. I decided to check out the first episode purely to find out why these bronies like the ponies. The storytelling was attention-grabbing and attention-keeping. The characters were unique and fun (even Rarity whom I hate with a passion). The animation is unique and special, the likes of which I have not seen before. And at the end of the first episode, I didn't want to just leave it there. I had to know what happened next, so I went straight to episode two. At first, while I liked it, I was not a brony. I still didn't see exactly why people loved the show as much as they do. I couldn't understand. However, I soon saw an episode that was simply entitled....DRAGONSHY!

 

It wasn't long in to the first season, but this episode is what made me fall in love with this show. Out of all of the ponies I had seen, I loved Fluttershy the most by this point. She was shy, quiet, and just plain adorable (I am not ashamed to admit I like cute things). However, this episode showed a completely new side to her. Despite her intense fears, she was willing to forsake her quiet personality for the sake of her friends. SHE MADE A FRIGGIN' DRAGON CRY AND WIMPER! Since then, I have never looked back.

Oh boy Smile HD, I'm going to go ahead and say that that video was fan made and is just strangely addictive, this is just treading in the vast ocean that is the Brony fandom. Here you will find plenty of art, music, games, and fanfiction all made for the fans, by the fans.

 

If you really loved Smile HD and want to see more like that, there's plenty of it. I recommend Rainbow Factory, Cupcakes HD, and just straight up Cupcakes. I'm sure you'll find your place here.

That Cupcakes HD and Smile HD, I regret watching them, and sadly, when I watched them, I hadn't heard anything about them - and got a rather large shock.

For some reason though, I watched Smile HD again - which I also regret.

I started watching Rainbow Factory - but then just left the video and listen to the proper smile song.

 

Anyways, I suppose I'll give you this Pinkie Pie welcome video...

Thank you. And yeah, I saw Smile HD and Cupcakes HD before I began watching MLP:FIM, so the affect comparing to the show wasn't as strong with me. Again, I have yet to see Rainbow Factory, but I am interested in checking it out some time. And I love the video. However, after seeing Pinkie Pie's little insanity after-party party for Gummy, I can't look at her the same again, lol.

Yeah, I can easily understand how that would be disturbing to a "heavy" brony. And then Cupcakes HD as well. And yeah, I can definitely understand as well with you having R.D. as your favorite. Rainbow is my second favorite of the Mane 6 and my third favorite character overall (after Fluttershy and Discord).

You know, I get some weird sense of satisfaction knowing that Rarity and Trixie are below Snips and Snails in your list. (Not sure why) Dragonshy was about the same time I got hooked onto the show (and my favorite of the mane six) too. There was just something about Fluttershy's overwhelming cuteness and absolute polar opposite from my own demeanor that really grabbed me.

 

Even while being a brony I didn't see much of anything wrong with Smile HD or Cupcakes HD either. And I don't care what anyone says, I still say Fluttershy whooped some ass right before getting melted like a wax candle in a furnace!
