Dashtastic57 40 January 11, 2014 Share January 11, 2014 Hey everypony (<that's gonna take some getting used to lol) I just got into this stuff this week. I happened across the Brony documentary on netflix and watched it. I liked the feel of it so I thought I'd give the show a try. I'm already an avid anime fan so I've seen the MLP stuff at cons. And I'm a bjd collector so I'm no stranger to hobbies that cross gender lines. Well I watched it and now I'm becoming obsessed with it lol. I keep hearing "My Little Pony" from the theme song in my head. I already have a Rainbow Dash and a Pinkie Pie from Build a Bear and ty beanies of TS, RD, and PP. I keep checking various Walgreens like the other 3 ty beanies will just magically appear lol. Sadly this stuff will, like my bjd hobby, have to remain largely secret. My family has found some of my bjds and have not reacted positively about them. They threatened interventions and therapy. So I know they would not take kindly to a 24 year old man collecting MLP stuff. Especially not 16 in stuffed animals lol. I must admit that I am less nervous about looking at MLP stuff at stores than I am looking at doll stuff. I guess subconsciously I know that Bronies are a fairly well known phenomenon compared to bjds. Though last night when I got rainbow dash at BaB I walked in and was like "uh I think she said she wanted the blue horse." And I told the lady it was for my sister. But today I told them Pinkie was for me. I'm a work in progress lol.
Deesinn 393 January 11, 2014 Share January 11, 2014 Yep, me too! Last week, 24 year old male. I just ordered a Rainbow Dash plushie on Ebay, man some of the stuff people make is amazing right? It's going to look so sick on my bass drum. Glad you're here, can't wait to see you round the forums, and everypony will defiantly like having you around.
Dashtastic57 40 January 11, 2014 Author Share January 11, 2014 (edited) Thanks. Did you order a custom Dash plushie? I looked at a lot of them on ebay but I like to pick mine up and hold them myself before I buy them. Plus I like the thrill of finding them lol. Oddly enough the first walgreens I went to had RD, TS, and PP ty beanies lol. I really really want an Applejack though. I was tempted to order a plushie of her on ebay but I want a ty and I'm afraid to get a bootleg or something. Cool avatar, I just watched that episode tonight and was like when I saw the title I was like ha This is the one where Dash says her iconic line lol. I really want a shirt that says that...hard to find a 2x though. Edited January 11, 2014 by Dashtastic57
GrimCW 658 January 11, 2014 Share January 11, 2014 Welcome both of ya to the heard! Whats a BJD if I might ask? Ball Jointed Dolls? Least thats what Google finds If that.. no idea why that'd be odd.. what do they think GiJoe was originally? Or what a smaller regular "action figure" is? same thing, just without the clothing... As to the rest.. If they really care, they won't see it as something to "intervene" on, as thats just being intolerant of your individuality. But in due time I'm sure. Just throw a derpy at them and if they don't laugh or "Dawww" at it as first reaction... somethings not right here.. I keed.. Do have fun, lounge about, and be careful of randomly firing party cannons...
Deesinn 393 January 11, 2014 Share January 11, 2014 It's true, it would be nice to hold it before buying it, but the ones I see on store shelves like at Walmart and Toy's r us just don't quite look right. There's something about the official plushies that looks off to me, like they aint cute enough. http://postimg.org/image/vnx3dhnwl/ It was 150 bucks man, 150 BUCKS! I was like WHAT?!?! Heeeell no, then I broke and I had to do it, it looks perfect, so hopefully it's not fake, but the reception is like 100% on the seller so I think I'm solid. Anyways, I totally want that shirt to, you couldn't find any? Snap, I haven't looked around for it yet, but I'll find one even if it kills me. I think they have them about there somewhere.. *goes to look* well.. I found the shirt and a sweater at welovefine's site... didn't look at redbubble yet. but the shirt isn't in 2x.. the sweater is though! http://www.welovefine.com/1284-cooler.html#.UtDZaJ5dXTo

My most expensive one was about 400 all together but there are some in the 1k-2k region. Plus my mom asked if I get off to them like howard on the big bang theory lol. And she doesn't like me buying any toys really. Guess she hasn't noticed my transformer kreon minifigs slowly increasing in population. I think I need to work on my confidence about this sorta stuff. I think they see that I want to hide it so they assume deep down I think it's "wrong" too. What I need is to save money and move out then I can put my ponies and dolls out and enjoy them whenever I want. Just in case you're curious about what my bjds look like http://www.flickr.com/photos/blueboy57/ (sorry if that's not allowed) It's true, it would be nice to hold it before buying it, but the ones I see on store shelves like at Walmart and Toy's r us just don't quite look right. I don't like those fabric strip manes and tails though on the little ones I've seen at walmart. I'm super happy with the TY ones. But I've always been happy with TY stuff. That plushie looks awesome....The Colors! They're so vibrant. And no worries about the hair becoming a mess lol. I couldn't pay $150 for one plush though lol...no offense to you though. To me $150 is a new body for a doll lol...well almost. I'm hoping I might find one of those shirts at AnimeStL this year or maybe even StL comic con. It's just so cool that now I have something else to look at, at cons. I would always pass pony stuff up and kinda look at it like wtf?....no more lol. GrimCW 658 January 11, 2014 Share January 11, 2014 like howard on the big bang theory lol My dog was named after him.. not by me mind you, but rather by the shelter staff where I got him.. He really fits the name though.. he really does... hmm Nice stuff there! You build them or buy them made? I've watched a few artists on DeviantArt with their stuff, and its pretty amazing stuff! Could always do what I did though I bought a house and now its getting stuffed with my stuff.. or "clutter" as my father calls it when he comes around. Okay okay, so I actually got it because I needed it (cheaper than rent for a flipping one bedroom.. I mean really?! the taxes are the worst of it, but for over an acre of land, 4 bedroom, large kitchen, and garage... how is this costing less than an apartment per month?!) But since I RARELY have visitors, its not like its hurting anyone. And once my tenant from upstairs moves out I'll have 3 more rooms to decorate I will miss her snakes though.. They always did like to snap at me, but dammit, snakes are cool.... But I do need more shelves.. and ponies.. not enough ponies.. But I generally don't get the Hasbro made stuff.. such horrid quality for their own show...
Dashtastic57 40 January 11, 2014 Author Share January 11, 2014 I need to save more money but that would be better. At least when you buy a house you're putting money toward owning it. Renting is money thrown away so to speak. But I don't have a fulltime job so idk where I'll be in a year or 5 years so I'm afraid to buy a house. But I definitely think buying a house is better than renting. And the snake thing...that's a reason I wanna move out too. I want a ball python and or a blood python. And i want to be able to have my cornsnake come out of hiding lol. She's puppydog tame. Half our basement is finished with the rest slated to be finished (bathroom and kitchenette). Now I have the biggest bedroom in the house and my own family room with my own entrance. My parents have never been good with privacy though. Like my biggest doll ( the one with the guitar in the pictures) hides in my walk in closet and somehow my mom found her. As for the dolls, most people don't make them per se. Like they're ordered from w/e company makes them. You can order them blank or with a faceup (makeup + facial features= faceup) or you can paint it yourself. I can't paint to save my life. Luckily there are some who can. I've made a few clothing items for them. But nothing elaborate. Sooner or later I'm gonna finish the Power Girl costume for one. And I made a cassette transformer hoodie and sweatpants to go with my blaster hoodie for an anime con/bjd meetup. Thinking I may have to make one of them a RD hoodie sometime lol. Could never have enough shelves...ever.

Are you all caught up on the episodes yet? Not even close lol. I'm still on season 1. I can't remember which one I stopped on but last night I remember watching the episode where Dash says her 20% cooler line, the winter wrap up one, and one with a race between AJ and RD. I'm trying to make it last lol. And sometimes I can get a bit obsessive whenever I start something new. Like whenever I buy a new console or handheld, I get like 5 games really quick. Or like my bjd hobby, I had 10 or so in my first year. Same with anime when I first started. I'm a collector by nature can't help it. Kinda scaring me but I'm entertaining the idea of going to make Fluttershy soon lol. And eyeing up Pinkie's seams so I can make my own pattern. I wanna make DC comics ponies. Bleez would make an awesome pony...but those embroidered eyes !?!
