-FlutterSnipe- 215 February 6, 2014 Share February 6, 2014 Hey everypony, I enjoy drawing not necessarily specifically ponies. usually rough sketches and I think I am mediocre to fair at it, but I was curious if anybody could give me some suggestions for software to use to start editing/coloring and improving my artwork digitally. I have very little experience with digital animation but I figure I can improve my drawings substantially and wanted some help! Thanks in advance everyone! De Oppresso Liber. Enigma 200 February 6, 2014 Share February 6, 2014 In terms of animation I can only tell you that ADOBE Flash Maker is the best from what little I know about it since animation isn't my thing. However, drawing wise, Paint Tool SAI is easily my favourite program (only PC supported sadly). The line quality is FANTASTIC must better than Photoshop. It's really cheap as well (I picked it up for about $70 at the time, dunno how much it is now but I wouldn't imagine it's much different from then). The blending brushes are absolutely fantastic as well unlike photoshop where the smudge tool doesn't really mix colours well at all. The only downfall to SAI is the fact that it doesn't have a lot of filters, just the basics (change levels, saturation, hue, brightness, etc, nothing fancy). It's really simple to use, doesn't lag/take up much RAM etc. Also, pen tool in it is 100 times better than photoshop. The biggest downfall though is that it doesn't have the sharpen filter o no;; In terms of free software the best I've seen so far is FireAlpaca which is like a poor man's SAI Tool. I'd also recommend getting a graphics tablet. Wacoms are the best graphics tablets, even their bamboo range is fantastic but they are pricey. If you're looking for a cheaper option to Wacoms, TRUST tablets aren't so bad. Anyway, I hope that helped you out a little o wo;;;; 1 "The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma." Karba 63 February 6, 2014 Share February 6, 2014 I recommend MACROMEDIA FLASH 8, its real easy to use for both professionals and beginners. You can draw, animate and even make games. 10/10 2 Feel free to follow me on Soundcloud! - https://soundcloud.com/lets_fly

RunningWolf251 5 February 8, 2014 Share February 8, 2014 Paint Tool SAI or GIMP will both work. Some people use Photoshop, but that's a preferential thing as it can be quite expensive compared to the two free tools before it. As for tablets, I have a Bamboo Create. It was about $100 new from the store, but you can find them online for cheaper. Most anything from Wacom's Bamboo line will do exactly what you want without being overly expensive, you just have to decide whether or not you want touch as well as pen.

RunningWolf251 5 February 8, 2014 Share February 8, 2014 They all look really good, I used to do sketching and stuff a long time ago before I tried vectoring, and I know I was less than excited to put up some of my first ones from both categories. But I didn't do oc requests and I kinda wish I had now. That's a really good way to get a lot of materials to work with and still be able to draw it how you want. I've been checking on and off to see how you're doing, but take your time, I'm in no hurry. It's more for practice for you than for me. Keep up the good work, it can only get better with time
