It was just another Hearts and Hooves Day. Thunder Dash was doing his usual daily patrol up in the sky. He then decided to land in Ponyville, close to the center square. He gracefully landed close to the center fountain.

Galechaser flew through the sky above Ponyville, relishing the fresh air. This is so much better than Manehattan, she thought to herself, smiling. Her red eyes scanned the ground below her, and she spotted a bright yellow pegasus with black stripes all along his body land near a large fountain. She hovered for a moment, shrugged as if to say, Why not? and flew down to join him.

At that moment. Thunder turned and saw the gray pegasus flying toward him. When he turned however, his mane swung gracefully in the gentle breeze. He had that natural smile he always had on since he was a little colt. "I guess I am attractive." Thunder thought to himself.

Galechaser almost stopped short at the smile he had on his face. Man, this dude really knows how to put on a smile for the ladies, she remarked to herself, but not sarcastically, as she landed next to him. "Hey, I like your stripes. My name's Galechaser. What's yours?" She noticed then that their cutie marks both involved lightning bolts. That's weird, she thought as she awaited his answer.

"The name's Thunder Dash, and thanks for the compliment." Thunder stated. "And you have beautiful red eyes." Thunder returned. He then gathered some electricity and made a rose appear from the blue. "Here's a rose for ya." He stated blushing ever so slightly.

Gale stared, eyes wide. He can do that?! She blushed a little, taking the rose and slipping it through her collarband ((forgot to mention she had an Octavia-like band around her neck)). "Thank you!" she said, smiling. "That's quite a talent you have, being a pegasus!"

"That's just one part of my abilities." Thunder stated. "I've had them since I was a little colt, and boy am I so grateful to have them. Who knows what I'll be doing if that accident didn't happen that day..." Thunder stated as he reflected the day he got his abilities.

"Accident? What accident?" Gale wondered aloud, as the gentle aroma of the rose he had given her filled her nostrils. She was still amazed by his talent, and was highly intrigued, now that he had brought it up, to know how he had gotten it.

"Well, when I was little colt, during a day at flight camp, a pegasus got lost in a storm. The Wonderbolts couldn't find it...so that's when I decided to go find it myself. It was a glorious sight entering that storm. As I was flying...Boom! I was struck by lightning. BUT...I didn't go down that most pegasai would. The lightning strike actually was absorbed in my body. It changed my genetic code, which gave me the ability to wield electricity." Thunder stated.

"Wow!" Gale stared in amazement. "What are the odds of that happening?" She shivered, seeing in her mind colt Thunder, bravely heading into a storm to rescue a young fellow flyer and absorbing the lightning strike. "Did anyone see it?" She imagined how she would have felt if she had been watching that day. I definitely would have had to scoop my jaw off the floor.

"Somepony in fact saw it. They were like shocked. But they kept it to themselves. I still don't know what he or she did after seeing that traumatic experience." Thunder stated as he combed his mane again. "I do have a cousin who's also immune to lightning stikes. But he can't wield electricity like I do." Thunder added.

Gale blinked. "Wait a minute...this whole thing seems so familiar..." She thought for a moment. "Who's your cousin?" she asked to fill the silence as her brain worked overtime, one ear open for his response, the other sifting through her memories. I think I might remember this...

"My cousin's name is Storm Rush. He actaully moved to Manehattan and back. He didn't like Manehattan, but got bored of the same work every day, having to mange those storms up in the weather factory. Only stayed in Manehattan for a few months." Thunder explained.

"Oh, really?" Gale asked. "So Thunder Dash, and Storm Rush. I sense a theme here..." Her mind raced back through her memories, trying to reach when she was a filly at Flight Camp. I think I remember his story! In her mind, she galloped along the corridors of her remembrances, passing shelf after shelf of happenings from her past...until she finally reached the one she wanted. Yes! In reality, her eyes got a faraway look in them as in her head, she pulled a volume off the shelf and flipped through it until she found what she had been looking for.

 

"A pegasus has gone missing," a concerned Spitfire said, feeling the gazes of all the foals around her and for once not feeling confident. "But we have not been able to find him or her, and..." She looked worriedly at the clouds behind her. "...the storm that is gathering is too dangerous for us to go out and look for them now. We will have to wait until the storm is over."

Gale's eyes were wide as the Wonderbolts ushered them inside the main building. A storm that's too dangerous for the Wonderbolts? she thought, nervously staring at the building clouds. Then her eyes fell on a young colt, yellow with blue markings on his hooves. He wasn't following them inside, and the Wonderbolts didn't notice he was still out there. Gale was the only one who saw him fly away. She gasped and broke from the group, running back out and staring up at the colt who was rapidly disappearing into the clouds. "He's going out there!" she exclaimed, and lifted into the air. I have to go after him, and with her mind made up, she set off.

 

The rest of the memory was a blur, but she remembered clearly watching in astonishment as the brave colt was struck by lightning and didn't go down. His eyes glowed briefly, and he looked stunned as the blinding flash died away, as though he had expected to be dead. Then he shook his head and flew on.

Thunder Dash was also thinking as well. "Huh? So you remember that day as well? I don't remember seeing a grey pegasus at flight camp, unelss..." Thunder Dash stated. He then thought about all of the ponies on that day, young Flitter, young Cloudchaser, young Thunderlane...

"I remember the look on your face when you got hit by that lightning," Gale said softly. "You were stunned at first, but then you shook your head and flew on. You were so brave to fly into that storm without any idea what would happen!" She smiled, remembering the awe she had felt for Thunder from then on. "I was so in awe of you."

"Wow! You remember a lot! You must have a photographic memory!" Thunder complimented. "So...did you want to hang out with me while I go do some stuff?" Thunder asked. It would be very nice for Thunder to have a mare accompany him while he did his stuff around town.

Gale smiled. "Thank you! And yes, I would love to come along with you!" Inside, she squealed a little at the prospect of going along with this handsome stallion. Featherwing would be so happy! she thought, grinning wider.

"Okay, I performed a morning patrol over Ponyville. Now that it's past 12 noon..." Thunder stated as he spread his wings, "It's time for a noon patrol." Thunder stated as he took to the skies. "Celestia stated I was the official patrol pegasus for Ponyville and Canterlot. Surprised that she didn't send some of her Royal Guards for that..." Thunder stated.

"Huh, that is funny. I guess she doesn't think you could come to much harm," Gale said as she flew alongside him. "So..." She paused. "We - uh, you just make a round of Ponyville and then head to Canterlot? Is that how it works?"

"Huh, that is funny. I guess she doesn't think you could come to much harm," Gale said as she flew alongside him. "So..." She paused. "We - uh, you just make a round of Ponyville and then head to Canterlot? Is that how it works?"

"We round Ponyville, then Cloudsdale, and finally Canterlot. We take about 2 laps around the outer borders of the area." Thunder stated as he continued to fly around Ponyville. "So...did you want to do something after we make the rounds?" Thunder asked.

Gale nodded as Thunder told her the rounds they would make, then hesitated at his question. "Um, well...I'll probably be hungry by then, so maybe we could get something to eat," Gale mused. "I guess wherever we're near to at that time. That sound good?" She glanced downwards for a moment, hearing a loud voice, but it was just a mother calling her foal over to her.

"Since we're ending at Canterlot, how about some dinner at the Canterlot Cafe?" Thunder asked as he made his final round around Ponyville. He then went higher, and made his way to Cloudsdale, preferably, the weather factory, where anything could happen.

"That sounds good to me," Gale said as she rose alongside him. In the distance, Cloudsdale came into view.

 

"Wow, I haven't seen that place in years," she remarked. "I can't believe it's really been a decade! All those fillies -" She glanced at Thunder. "-and colts I knew at flight camp are now all grown up, some with foals of their own...it's amazing!" Realizing she was rambling slightly, she turned her head to her companion. "When did you move here?" she asked, as the scent of the rose he had given her wafted up to her face.

 

((She was nine when she left to move to Ponyville.))

"Oh, so many things have changed. There's a weather factory now. Before, pegasai had to process things, which took a long time, and resulted in a near drought because of the long sunny days. Yeah, it wasn't that good back then. But now, with all of the advancements in technology, the weather factory is up and running. Pegasai still work there, but machines do most of the processing." Thunder explained as he continued to fly.
