Farley sang to himself as he skulked through the bushes.

"All the roosters, geese and hawks, are dumb as an ox, it's good to be me" Farley mumbled as he stalked. He paused, smirking as he saw a wolf. Wolves usually weren't seen this far west, what was it doing here? Farley smirked and decided to stalk the wolf. They may be evolutionary cousins, but it was clear that only one side had brains

Seth was walking back from a trip from a good friend's house where he had just finished lunch. He walked along a path that was at the outskirts of Ponyville. Eventually, it ran into a single dubble-story house. He walked up to the door and walked in. After walking to his study, he pulled out a book he had been reading for some time and continued where he left off.

Farley smirked as the wolf entered the house. Whoever it was, they were probably well off. Farley snuck in, smiling wickedly as he entered. The rich tended to have chicken, a personal favorite of Farley's. Before Farley could find the larder, his eyes caught something. The fox padded over to a knife, rather old but still pretty looking.

"This would fetch a pretty penny...or look good in my lair" Farley muttered, chuckling as he grabbed the knife in his jaws and ran off

After finishing a good five chapters of 'Peace among Warriors', Seth put down the book and walked for the kitchen for a snack before getting back to diplomatic paperwork he had neglected until now. As he passed the fireplace mantel, something cough his eye. Well... more was like a bloody train wreck. The one thing he kept on that mantel on a display was missing. Someone had stolen Dawn's knife that was given to him.

Farley snickered as he ran off. The knife looked even shinier in the daylight and would look even better in his dank lair. The fox looked both ways before clawing a small pebble. The pebble collapsed, causing a small rock slide, revealing the fox's cave. As Farley entered, he hip checked the wall, covering the entrance again

Seth stared at where the knife used to stand, anger building as he wondered who would have the audacity to seal from a wolf. Let alone, him. After a second, he walk into his sleeping quarters. Inside his bedside table were a collection of knives and gauntlets to mount them on. Grabbing a serrated blade and a carbon fiber arm mount, he walked down stairs back to the knife stand. Giving a sniff to the air, Seth smelled the thief. A fox.

 

The alpha wolf walked out the door, intent on finding the perpetrator of the stolen memory.

Farley smirked as he placed the knife on one of the few areas where light could enter the gloomy cave.

 

"Lovely, really sets off the quartz shards" Farley admired, turning around when he heard a whimpering sound. Ah, that would be lunch. Farley walked over to a tied up wolf pup, licking his lips hungrily as he saw it. Farley was rather partial to wolf and so he had sold some gems for one to be delivered via black market.

 

"W-who are you?" the pup whimpered as Farley approached him. He got no answer but a snarl as Farley leaped upon him, tearing the pup to pieces

As Seth was a few hundred feet from his home, he raised his head and howled out. He waited for a response. After a second, tens of howls returned from the everfree forest, all saying the same thing. "Nothing."

 

Seth growled at his failed attempt to get information on the fox's location. He needed that knife back, it was one of his only ties to his brother he had left. The wolf continued to fallow the trail of the sent until he came across a pile of rocks. He shrugged it off, not thinking anything of it. However, as he continued to walk, he lost the scent of the fox. He turned back to the rocks, beginning to wonder if there was a connection.

Farley wiped his lips clean, blood dribbling on his paws. While he would like to keep the corpse around, it would stink up the place and make it easier to find. Farley grabbed the remnants of the body and tossed it into the stream that ran through his cave. The body would wash up on the shore, which was above ground and far way from his tunnel

Seth approached the rockpile, still curios as to why the smell didn't continue on. Then it hit him. He started to paw at the rocks, seeing if there was anything to them. After a bit of forceful judgment, the rocks began to tumble. It revealed a rather large cave, and the sent was still fresh. He looked inside to see a fox with blood-marked teeth.

Farley leaped back, gasping in shock.

"Impossible, this cave was hidden perfectly!" Farley whined, backing away. He may be large for a fox, but he was still not in a wolf's league. The fox's hackles were raised and then he felt a wetness on his paw. Farley's panic turned to a smirk as he dived into the stream, letting the current carry him away.

"Not for a wolf!" Seth yells. As the fox jumped into the stream, Seth took that moment to grab his brother's knife and sheath it in his holster around his leg. After securing his goal, Seth charged into the stream after his main prize: a nice fox pelt for a rug he was going to make.

Farley whined in pain as the rip currents slammed him against the cave walls. After paddling desperately, the fox climbed ashore, panting hard.

"Ugh, never do that again" he groaned, shaking water off his coat and dashing into the underbrush to hide

As Seth swam to keep up with the rouge fox, he had trouble trying keeping fixed eyesight. After many bends in the cave, it was clear that he was not getting his prize until outside the cave. When he came out of the cave, he looked around, but had no sight of the fox. The sent was lost due to the water, so he had lost his fox. "Damn it!" He barked as he got out of the stream. At the very least, he got his brother's knife back.

Farley smirked as he saw the washed up corpse of the pup on the riverbank. That would disguise his scent even further. The fox leaped into a tree and climbed up it, bounding like a squirrel. This was an advantage had over wolves, the ability to climb trees with relative ease

As Seth began to walk for home, a slight sent caught his nose. He looked around to see what was distracting him. Looking to the stream, Seth found the body of a wolf pup. He immediately ran over to it, seeing the extant of the murder. Whoever did this tore into the young wolf's flesh with ease. "God damn..."

Farley watched from the trees his green eyes boring into the wolf's spine. He was tempted to kill that wolf for interfering with his lunch, but Farley knew it was suicidal to try. Still, Farley's arrogance took hold and he decided to track the wolf. If wolf pups tasted nice, adults would as well.

Seth plucked the child's body our of the stream and placed it on the shore. The pup couldn't have been but a year old. He couldn't defend himself if he wanted, and whoever attacked him gave him little mercy. As the pain of one of his young brethren being lost sunk in, Seth walked a few feat away from the body and begin to dig a hole. It was expected of him to at least give a proper burial in honor of the pup's bloodline. After digging a deep enough hole, Seth picked up the body a buried it. Covering up the hole, he looked at the fresh earth. he began to sing a soft song as he closed his eyes.

 

"I am the dawn that brings mystery..."

Farley rolled his eyes as he watched the wolf. This was another difference between wolves and foxes. Because foxes were solitary, honor and other such things were utterly worthless to them, unlike with the wolves. Farley leaped from his perch on the tree and landed in another, closer to the wolf

Seth heard a ruffle in the trees, but payed it little mind. As he finished his song, he placed his paw in the earth and compressed it to form a paw print. "An honor-less death." Seth mumbled to himself. "To die before you even have a chance at life. I am truly sorry." He then bowed his head in respect for the dead.

Farley smirked as he saw what he was looking for. The area they had washed up in led to a thin ravine. If the wolf went in there, he'd be easy to pin down. Meanwhile, Farley's smaller size would let him move freely. Farley dropped down ontop of the wolf, clawing at his face.

 

"Boo!" Farley mocked before running off into the ravine, hoping the wolf would follow

Seth opened his eyes as he felt the fox slice at his face. He looked to the attacker, wiping his face of the newly spilling blood. "Honorless foul!" he yelled, grabbing his knives and strapping both to his forepaws. "If you are the one for the murder of this pup, I shall enjoy lapping up your dead blood!" Seth began to chase the fox until he reached the ravine. It was a perfect place for a losing fight. Good thing he had the knives. He slowly walked in, keeping an eye out for his aggressor.

"You and your honor" Farley snorted, ducking into a crack in the ravine. It hid him well and when he talked, his voice reverberated from everywhere, making him hard to pin down. "Yes, that pup was mine. So what? I like my meat tender" Farley mocked, skulking in the cracks of the ravine that would be too small for the wolf to reach

"Show your self, murderer!" Seth shouted. "Only cowards hide from the inevitable." Even with his hearing, Seth was lost from where the fox was. He sniffed the air, trying to get a sceant. After some breaths, he did find a slight lingering smell. however, it did not lead him anywhere.

"Cowardice keeps you alive. It's called being smart" Farley gloated, reaching the end of the ravine. He clambered onto a small ledge and let out a bark. "I'm over here half wit? What's wrong, too fat to get through here?" Farley mocked, his lips still bloody from the pup's blood. "You'll come, you and I both know it. You won't let an honorless cur like me get away, will you?" Farley laughed, keeping himself on the ledge
