WEAK SEASON
So let's get this out of the way: The story arc in this season sucked. This show proved in the previous two seasons that it sucks at story arcs and this season changed nothing. I'll go into more detail in my bottom 5, but for now let's talk about the episodes in between.

WEAK SEASON
This is an interesting season for me. I started watching the show in June of 2017 so while I was somewhat following the show through the second half of season 7, season 8 was the first one that I really followed along with. And when I first watched it, I liked it. But I also liked Starlight and Sparity so clearly I've evolved since then (or devolved depending on your opinions on those things). But still, rewatching this season was kinda nostalgic and I think it's that nostalgia
MEH SEASON
This season is better than I remember in some ways, but I still think this is a pretty weak season and I'm having a hard time deciding whether this or season 5 is worse. A lot of the problems with this season came from the first half. Aside from Celestial Advice, A Flurry of Emotions, and Hard to Say Anything, the first half of the season was a disaster. OKAY SEASON
I'm really surprised that I like this season. It definitely has glaring problems, but they're not bad enough to wreck the season as a whole. This season has a style to it that McCarthy's seasons lacked. That's probably because this season marks the reign of a new story editor. Josh Haber did write a couple episodes before this (including The Cutie Re-Mark), and those episodes do have a taste of what this season is like. Simple Ways in particular feels like it would fit ri
I just reread .out.of.character. and it's... okay. Like, it still has some good stuff, but it's a lot emptier than I remember. This used to be one of my favorite fanfics, so it's a shame that it dropped so much.
(SPOILERS IN CASE YOU CARE ABOUT THAT)
First let's talk about the good stuff. I like Rainbow's characterization. She is supposed to be the only one who's in character so it's important to get her right. If she's out of character too, the whole story and its message falls apart.
