I have been invited by my school to go to China, when I asked when the trip was they said that it was in September. Thing is Sydneigh 2014 is in September (http://sydneigh.com.au/) I want to go to Sydneigh as much as I would like to go to China. But who knows, the China trip might be on the 30th of September, so I would have time to go to the Con and be back in Melbourne in time to fly to China

the first Ponycon AU was a hard decision for me because I thought I had to go to Italy during then, but it turned out that it was a weekend before I went to italy so I could go

Is this a student exchange or an out-of-country field trip? I would personally take the school trip over the pony convention - it's likely to offer more in the way of radically new experiences. I certainly don't regret leaving some other things aside for major field trips when I was in high school - opportunities to travel like that will be rarer later on.
