Entry #7: Camp Independence
From July 28th to August 1st, I spent all day at a place called Saint Mary's High School, or Camp Independence to help some diabetic kids out. Being 16, I was a CIT (Counselor In Training), and I was paired up with 3 other guys to help me out with the kids. I was put in the Boy Youth group, and my god, my group was fucking crazy, like really crazy. I think these kids ranged from 8 to 11, and they were hard to calm down. One kid kept taking my hat, my name tag, and even was on my leg for the first day. Thankfully he calmed down a little after that, but I was still irritated.
We did a LOT of activities at the camp. On Thursday, it was all activities, like hiking, Zumba dancing, and water slides. I didn't mind most of the activities, but the aspect I hated the most was the heat. It's a god damn oven here in Texas, and being in the near 100 degree weather all day didn't help me in the slightest. Each day I got home, I was tired and felt like sleeping for the rest of the day.
On the plus side, the kids loved me, and I did play with them for a little while each day. I also got to meet some CIT's, and they were pretty cool, and we're gonna be at a party on Sunday.
For the first time being a CIT, I really liked it, and I'm going back next year. Also, I got 48 hours of community service. That's nice.
