2014: A Year in Review
So I was going to wait until New Years Eve to post it, but I rather do it now.
2014 was an iffy year for me. I can’t say it was great, nor can I say it was bad. It was just another year I was able to live (because any day above ground is great, no matter how bad that day was.) So now I am going to pinpoint some of the things, both good and bad, that has happened to me throughout the year.
February:
-
I celebrated my first year as a Brony. It was a great day for me, but the evening didn’t turn out so well with the mass destruction of the Broncos against the Seahawks in the Super Bowl.
- My original 3DS from 2011, the year it came out, broke due to water damage and the sheer cold of having to go to school in a blizzard (thanks de Blasio). I had to go the whole day at school with wet, cold socks, and it was just horrible.
March:
- I went on a bowling trip with some friends from school and we bowled with NBA players from the Brooklyn Nets. We also got these cool bowling shirts, that were autographed.
April:
-
I celebrated my 19th birthday (that’s exciting enough.) I also went to a meetup on my birthday at Build-A-Bear and I got a Sweetie Belle plush. And to finish it off, I got a MLP themed birthday cake.I received a new 3DS XL the day after my birthday.
- I went to the World Premiere of the documentary “A Brony Tale” and I got to meet Ashleigh Ball, and some big name Bronies like Dusty Katt, Saber Spark, and Silva Hound. As I was heading there by train, this woman called me “fat” and said “it looked like I ate 20 cheeseburgers”. When I got off the train, I couldn’t help but laugh at how ridiculous that was (just a note that the woman was bigger than me.)
June:
-
Went to a barbecue hosted by my dad’s union at Coney Island. That day ended with me, my brother, and sister getting sunburns, but it wasn’t big.
-
I had to go to court for Jury Duty. It was the most boring day I had ever experienced, but I was glad I missed a day from school. I had to confess to the judge that I had a very important test to take in school the following week (the case would have overlapped the day of the test, and I would have missed it) and why I had to be excused from the case given. (I’m the guy that is shy, quiet and prefers to be hidden, so I was surprised that I was able to say that in front of the entire courtroom without any type of anxiety.)
-
A week later from Jury Duty, I took the NYS Living Environment Regents, a test required for a high school diploma.
- Last day of school and I am able to relax.
July:
-
My school sets students up with jobs during the summer and I was selected.
- When I get to school, the Principal came up to me and said “85”. I was a little confused at first, but then I thought and knew she was talking about the test. I got the results for the test I took in June and passed with an 85.
August:
-
I was falsely accused of stealing money from my job coach. I was really heated because I was already making money from the work I was doing.
- Immediately after BronyCon 2014, I was able to secure a ticket for BronyCon 2015 which made me really excited. I declared that I won’t be able to go to 2014, but I will be able to in 2015. (I know one thing that’s anticipated for me next year.)
September:
-
I am glad to be back in school after being annoyed by my mom for three weeks prior
-
I am sadden to hear that I have to take the Global History class over again
- I was able to go to the first day premiere of Rainbow Rocks in theaters, but I was 10 minutes late because the trains I needed to take to get to the movie theater it was shown at were messed up due to construction.
October:
-
My mom didn’t let me go to the midnight launch, so I ditched school in the morning to go pick up Super Smash Bros for 3DS, but that backfired because I was found out I wasn’t at school and that destroyed my plans for that weekend.
- Had a costume party at school for Halloween and I went as the 9th Doctor from Doctor Who. I didn’t win no contest because no one knows about that show except one teacher, who geeked out when I showed him my Sonic Screwdriver, and about four other students.
November:
-
I was able to secure another ticket for a different con: Ponycon NYC 2015. I took it out of my BronyCon 2015 Savings, but I actually lucked out because it is only 20 minutes away from my house (walking distance. And this one is in February 2015, so it is more anticipated than Bronycon with it being closer.)
- Fearing that I would ditch school again, my mom let me go to the midnight launch of Pokemon ORAS/Super Smash Bros for Wii U. The gamestop had put out Brawl for everyone to play. I actually won a 1v1 with Samus, and I was using the terrible controls on the WiiMote. There were also people playing 3DS Smash so I joined with them after playing Brawl.
December:
-
I got into a verbal fight with my mom where I sorta set her up by already knowing the response when I said “ Hopefully I freeze to death” on my way out the door for school, and she said “that would be a great thing.” It didn’t bother me at first, then it hit me at lunch on how I pretend things are alright when they really aren’t, which actually caused me to tear a little.
- Just a nice and peaceful Christmas.
So I guess as I look back over this year, I had a ton of good things that outshined the bad. But I will say that it still wasn’t that great because I wasn’t happy for most of the year. In the midst of all the good stuff, which made me happy, it was filled with anger and hate, as seen in a majority of my status updates on the forums. I know i’m not going to immediately change, but I need to work on being more assertive, caring, considerate, and being more open about things in 2015. This is what will make next year better than this year.
