Why Tangled was way better for me than for everyone else.

This is a bit late, but I'm bored, so whatever.

So, I don't know how true Tangled stayed to original fairy tale, but I've never been familiar with Rapunzel at all. The only thing I've ever known is that she has long hair and lives in a tower and people climb up and down her hair. I never knew who she was or why she was in the tower or anything.

I first saw Tangled last August on TV. It was actually in a hotel room. I was scrolling around, and there it was, so I watched. Now, when I turned onto the channel, it was right when the "Tangled" title appeared. I missed Eugene's entire exposition narration. I actually didn't know that Rapunzel was the lost princess. The film was suppose to be based on dramatic irony, but there was none for me. I was completely in the dark. I was in the same place she was. Believe it or not, I actually didn't figure it out until she did. I realized it at the same moment. I suppose I should be kind of ashamed. It should have been blatantly obvious, after all. I mean, who else was she gonna be? Just some random chick? Right.

But that's how I am with TV and movies. I tend not to be very observant the first time I watch things. Well, I guess I'm observant about certain things, and not others. I always notice when the ponies slip up and say "townspeople", or speak "in person", or something like that. But I guess I'm not observant when it comes to plot. I never try to figure things out. I'm not looking for the solution. I just watch and enjoy. I did the same thing with Sisterhooves Social. I had no idea it was Rarity in the competition until the moment when it's revealed by seeing her horn. The blue eyes should have been a dead giveaway. Also, she was completely silent throughout the race. If it had in fact been AJ, she would have been yeehaw-ing all over the place. Not to mention that the mud stayed in place the whole time. When does that ever happen in cartoons? If it had been AJ, she would have given a quick shake and been clean as a whistle in the next shot. But I digress.

The point is, I don't notice these things until the characters notice. And I really like it that way. It makes it much more enjoyable. The sisterhooves thing, and the Rapunzel thing were both pretty mind blowing when I figured it out. It made it so much more dramatic. I went the whole flipping movie thinking that Evil McBitch woman was in fact Rapunzel's mom. I thought she was just a crappy mom. Lol. So, it was a mind blowing moment for me, whereas for everyone else, they already knew what was going to happen. Whether one is familiar with the story of Rapunzel or not, I think the movie would have been way better without Eugene's intro. Just start right when they show the title, and bam, perfect movie.
