Why I Like Rainbow Dash

Okay, so I have been asked by people why I like Rainbow Dash so much. Many people hate her with a fiery passion due to her arrogance and potential to be a complete bitch at times. First of all, I want to say that I completely admit that she acts like a bitch sometimes, mostly in season 2 and season 3 a little bit. I already made a rant about her being a bitch recently, so if you're interested you can go read that blog entry.

 

Anyway, I am now going to talk about why I like Rainbow Dash. Many of you might not know that my favorite pony was actually Twilight Sparkle when I first started watching the show. I always tend to like the main character of any show, book. movie, etc. the best because the main character usually receives the most screen time and is developed the most and whatnot. I also admired Twilight's intelligence, rationality, logic, etc. But enough of Twilight.

 

Anywho, when I was first getting into the show, I was watching a lot of pony videos on Youtube and I saw a lot of cool Rainbow Dash videos and I started thinking like "Wow Rainbow Dash is really awesome!!!" I think the video that really got me liking Rainbow Dash was the "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" PMV. Most of you have probably seen that, and if not, just look it up on Youtube.

 

So naturally, I grew more fond of Rainbow Dash, and by the time I was done watching the first season, Rainbow Dash was officially my favorite character. So at this point (around December of last year), I found MLP Forums and made an account. My love for Rainbow Dash was probably very obvious, considering her name was in my username and I used only RD avatars for the most part.

 

So back to what I was talking about at the beginning. People ask me, "How can you like RD? She's such a mega bitch!"

 

Well, here's the thing. I don't picture Rainbow Dash as a bitch, regardless of how she acts in the show sometimes. I like to imagine her having all those awesome qualities that she has without the negative bitchy qualities that she tends to sometimes have. I will admit that I had a pretty big crush on her several months ago. I liked to imagine her as being the kind of girl that I would be attracted to and would love to have as a girlfriend or whatever. I basically took the things that I would want in a girlfriend and attributed them to Rainbow Dash. That sounds kind of weird, but yeah.

 

So basically, I don't think of her as a bitch, but as an awesome girl (mare?) that can maybe be a bit cocky at times, but can still be an awesome, loyal friend and somepony whom I would love to be with.

 

So, there you have it. I probably didn't explain this very well. I've never been good at explaining things :/

Maybe that's the problem? Are you bigoted enough to not allow yourself to like her character?

 

Most of you forget about Rainbow's heroics in saving Rarity (ironic as it is) from her death way back in season one, for starters. Granted, I don't dislike any one pony but I'm guessing you'll just completely ignore the fact that she was being pretentious and completely snobby during that one episode, so much that she actually learned her lesson in the end. If that doesn't give you an indication of the good in one character, then you really have to do some more digging.

I instantly dislike the people who acts like her, yeah, she's loyal and she represents her element, but what's the point of that if acts like an asshole.

True, but the main problem here is that you're here accusing RD of being an asshole just because she's a little brash. Your only defense of despising RD is because you dislike what you consider to be behavioural problems on her part even though they're really insignificant and not worth getting upset over.

 

Think harder. Being headstrong and opinionated doesn't make you an asshole. Snobby, uptight, and presenting yourself as completely superficial? That on the other hand, makes a great case for being as such, even if it wasn't true. It's strange to the average eye how you would just leave out something like that in regards to your own favourite character, so isn't that a bit hypocritical on your part?

 

Good leadership qualities comes at a price. You have to be bold and sometimes tough with your friends to sort them out. Rainbow Dash doesn't mean harm; she just wants them to be equally as tough along with her. This isn't unlike Rarity wanting her friends to be glamorous and stylish as herself, portraying them to be something out of a Vogue magazine. In fact, the only time where Rainbow Dash has apparently done wrong in any shape or form has been in the Mysterious Mare Do Well where she let the fame get to her. Then again, Rarity isn't an angel either. She neglects her sister for much of Sisterhooves Social, nearly forgets about her friends in Sweet and Elite in pursuit of impressing the crowd, and attempting to seduce the pants off of one colt just to get vegetables in Putting Your Hoof Down (giving us the impression that we should give off a false sense of kindness in order to get what we want). Tell me, can these actions even be remotely considered as good news if any of them continue to present themselves as what people actually expect of them?

 

If you keep on being blind, you might as well hate on every single character if you're going to intentionally despise one of them just to gratify your love for one character who happens to be a polar opposite.
