Distant singing echoes in the forest, beautiful, yet eerie; is it a ghost? A monster? You don’t know, as most flee the moment they hear it, few follow it, and none have dared to find the source. Until now, for you are determined to find out where it’s coming from.

The terrain is difficult to traverse, but it doesn’t discourage you, as you have everything you need, you even brought a weapon, just in case. You wonder why you are doing it, is there a reason? Or are you just curious? You don’t really know, but maybe the answer lays ahead?

The singing gets louder, and you find yourself at a cave. The cave is overgrown with plantlife, and the entrance is blocked by a fallen tree, it almost looks like it was placed there, and as you look closer, you see carvings on it ”Danger” it says ”Stay out”, written in more languages than you know.

You shiver, that’s ominous if anything, but you decide to keep going, you move the tree out of the way, and enter the overgrown cave. You fight your way through vines and leaves, making your way deeper, as the song echoes around you, wraps itself around you, you feel nervous, yet so calm.

The singing gets louder, the plants make way, you’ve reached a chamber. It is too dark to see anything, so you ignite your torch, and as light fills the cave, the singing stops, and you see it, in a round cage, you see a creature you have never seen before, but before you have time to react, it speaks to you.

”A visitor? Please, be kind and open this cage, I will forever be in your debt.” her voice is soft and genuine, in her eyes you see desperate pleading, she seems harmless, a damsel in distress, yet for what reason is she here? And were those warning genuine?

You ponder your options, will you be her hero, a rescuer, or will you trust the unseen jailer? And leave her here to rot, to sing her song for a moment longer?

Is quite a conundrum. If she is freed, the one freeing her may risk freeing some dangerous creature who has unseen power, or she may very well be a wronged innocent prisoner from some far bygone era.

What is innocence but a matter of perspective? Danger, but a question of standpoint? For someone can be both a monster and a savior, it only depends who you ask.
