January 25th 1990, Seattleback, Washington

Sitting at the 'EverBean Forest Cafe' watching the live performance of Neighvana, was a lonely pony Named Penny Lane. She wanted to go outside and have a cigarette, and take a break from the loud music as well.

As she brought the flame of her lighter to her mouth, Another pony emerged out of the smokey lounge and into the desolate street corner.

"Hey Penny, come out for some fresh air too?"

"Oh, hey Limelight. Yea,' it was also getting rather intense in there. Boy can that Colt Cobain sing!"

Limelight lit up a cigarette as well and nodded her head engagingly.

"His voice carries so much tone. Oh listen to us! We sound like a bunch of Groupie filly's aha!"

Penny just smiled and stayed content for a moment. With the music mumbling in the background, and the near dead silence coming from the night time streets, Penny grabbed a moment of reflective thought.

She faced away from Limelight, then faced back, asking her "Have you ever thought about what you wanna do when you move out to Fillydelphia?"

Limelight pondered for a second, gently taking lady like puffs of her light cigarette

"Well, I wanted to stay true to my art. I mean my cutie mark does entail that I am a painter at heart" Saying so and flashing a cutie mark of a paint brush with a multi-colored tip and palate.

Penny looking unimpressed, replies "Okay, your cutie mark says your a good painter. But I mean is that really how destiny works? Do you really wanna tie your self down like that?"

Limelight gasped, and questioned Penny's curiosity "Well of course, you have to approach the world with what your given. Its just simply accepting your identity. And it's not tying myself down I have all the free will I need at hand to make an honest choice."

Penny looked appalled, and added " How do you know for sure that you have free will. A book I have says that free will could be an illusion of the mind!"

Limelight, obviously skeptical, just pouted and flicked a bit of ash off of her cigarette.

"Com' on, you have to have heard of the Enlightened Steed!"

Limelight looked puzzled "what do you mean exactly?" she said as she threw the butt of her cigarette into the street.

Penny did the same and stamped it out "You mean whom do I mean. The enlightened steed is a Buddhist master that lives in a far away land from here. I've read some books on his teachings."

"You've read some books? Hah! good for you, you egghead" giggled Limelight.

"I'm serious, His stuff is awesome! He talks about the Cartesian Other and the inner workings of the unconscious mind!"

Amused, Limelight stretched out her neck and asked Penny "Sounds like you ate some pretty tasty grass"

"Oh shut up, i'm serious, I have a genuine interest. Lets go discuss it over coffee."

Limelight took up her offer and walked with her back to the cafe. Before walking through the doors, Limelight turned to Penny and said "Oh Penny, your the only pony I know of that can get all deep an introspective at a Neighvana Concert. That's gotta count for something"

*Short Story Imagination:

Imagine Seattle, Washington in the early 90's. What would two grunged out, rocker pony's look like?

Anypony who thinks they can draw out there view of Pennylane and Limelight is encouraged to post there work and carry on the adventures of Pennylane.
