Lessons on Friendship that People Should Know

Lesson 2: If you have Talent, don't rub it in.

As this has been resembled in many Cutie Mark Crusaders episodes, having a talent can be very fulfilling. However, if you have a talent and you rub it in peoples faces, it can lead to sadness on the others part.

Obvious enough isn't it?

I don't mean that you shouldn't share your talent with others, as it's God's gift to you, but making fun of somebody who isn't good at what he wants to be while you're an exceeding prodigy can hurt peoples feelings. (Yes, I'm trying very hard not to sound harsh in this blog.)

So, what do you do about it? If you have a good talent, then be modest about it. If you're an amazing pianist and somebody has a piano in their home, don't just shove them aside and start blaring out Beethoven's fifth. (I don't even know if that's a piano piece but hey) At least ask them for permission to do so! Unless you're a teacher, you really shouldn't judge people and criticize them on something that you're much better at than them, because obviously you're better and they won't do as well to begin with.

See what I'm getting at? Being outward and obsessive over your cutie mark can be a pain for others, and you'd be surprised how many every day people don't realize this.

Then there's the opposite of haha-I'm-better-than-you-let-me-rub-it-in-your-face; the unnoticed talent.

I shall cite an example for this: To Kill a Mockingbird.

In chapter 10, Atticus shoots a mad dog to save his neighborhood and family. In doing so, he reveals his amazing bulls eye shot and his awesome talent at marksmanship.

THAT NONE OF THE CHILDREN KNEW ABOUT TILL THEN.

Having a talent is one thing, but hiding it and burying it from your life should be frowned upon. If you have a talent, stick with it and become good at it. Don't throw it in peoples faces, and don't hide it from everybody. There's a very fine line there that everybody should strive for. I'll admit even I can't discern it sometimes and I become prideful in my work and get riled up at others when they dislike it. But in the end, that's what having a talent is about. Being modest and not being sore about it. :)
