  1. Exactly! And because of that, she is no longer a social outcast. This completely removes one of her biggest weaknesses. Remember back when Twilight struggled to be heard? And whenever she was heard, nopony would ever listen to her. They'd just laugh it off and ignore her. But with her being a princess, suddenly everypony is submitting to her authority. Just in that way alone, combined with the fact that she can effortlessly fly toward the screen in a fancy dress is more than enough to feel overpowered. ^This. This, my friends is the direction they're trying to take this show. They've recently been giving an unusual and unfair amount of attention to Twilight Sparkle alone with her friends seeming more and more inferior every week. Sure, she may be the main protagonist, but even that doesn't make up for the "Show off Twilight Sparkle and then turn her into a sellout Mary-Sue princess and then a Barbie princess in high school" attitude that they've been showing recently. Add to that the fact that the writers have become too self-absorbed to realize that such decisions are not doing the franchise any good. They want no more than to turn Twilight into a princess to bring even more attention to her. That way they can use her as a tool to get more toys on the shelves. Equestria Girls shows how out of character Twilight has become.
  2. In less than a year, the coorporate overloards have managed to turn an anti-social bookworm into a sellout princess in high school. SMH

  3. Aha! I knew they had too much in common! Incoming conspiracies! All joking aside, this certainly isn't the first time the animators goofed up with the cutie marks. Here are some examples.
  4. I think it started with an animation error. A crew member noted that Photo Finish was made from a slightly modified version Twilight Sparkle's character model, and the visibility of Twilight's cutie mark was most likely overlooked during production because she always wore a dress that covered her flank. The trading cards also show Twilight's cutie mark on Photo Finish's card because of this animation error. I wouldn't consider this to be valid evidence either because the trading cards are not 100% official as they're only licensed by Hasbro. I wouldn't consider her cutie mark to be canon.
  5. Ummm... yes. Alicorn Twilight is a bad thing. Why should you be convinced? Here's why: We want to see an exciting show about friendship struggles, not some boring, uneventful, cliché sellout starring some princess attending banquets and making decrees. That's completely missing the point of the show because it draws attention away from Twilight's friends. They deserve it more than she does. Without them, she was [and would still be] stubborn, unfriendly, clueless, and weak while the world burns down around her.
  6. I've been following this thread for a while. I guess I should probably just ask to be "signed up" since that seems to be what this thread is about.
  7. Maybe because it wasn't a sudden forced change that destroyed legions of headcanon like Twilicorn? Simply giving someone a new ability isn't in itself a bad thing. It's when they overdo it and make them overpowered (such as having all the ponies bowing down to Twilight) that it starts to take away from story. Whereas with Transformers, I'm guesing that it's probably no big deal because they change shape all the time.

  9. Yeah, great idea. Promoting racism to little girls. Here's a better idea: KEEP EVERY RACE EVEN! I seriously wish the writers would stop giving the unicorns and pegasi so many unnecessary advantages. It makes them seem way too powerful. Meanwhile, we have yet to see very much (if any) convincing evidence that earth ponies have any unique powers of their own. Applejack may seem like the strongest, but there is not enough evidence to indicate that this is related to her being an earth pony. Somepony obviously needs to rewatch the series premiere. It was stated plain and simple: "I felt it the very moment I realized how happy I was to hear you, to see you, how much I cared about you. The spark ignited inside me when I realized that you all -- are my friends. You see, Night Mare Moon, when those Elements are ignited by the... the spark, that resides in the heart of us all, it creates the sixth element: the Element of... Magic." In my opinion, that's as obvious as it could possibly be (even to the point of feeling somewhat cheesy when watching for the first time). Twilight created the sixth element, which can only be powered through the other five combined. Take away any other element (whether it be Loyalty, Honesty, Generosity or whatever element you want) and the element of Magic would be powerless (if it would even exist at all). We all knew that was supposed to be Twilight's destiny. It made perfect sense! Magic powered by friendship! Friendship is Magic! Thus the title fit the show perfectly because it was about Twilight discovering a new kind of magic by learning about friendship. If you're trying to say that it was because she wrote her own magic, then answer this for me: Why didn't Twilight transform into an alicorn right there and then after discovering the power of friendship? After all, she did discover her true destiny then, didn't she? And if becoming an alicorn was achieved simply by discovering one's destiny, isn't every character destined for something, therefore turning them into alicorns as well? Or are they all just too lazy to fulfill their calling? If so, does that mean that only four ponies in the whole history of Equestria, have ever fulfilled their destiny? Isn't that belittling to the rest? What about Twilight's friends? Why aren't they alicorns? They've discovered their destinies too, haven't they? What role do their cutie marks play in this, because the last time I checked, discovering one's special calling is what earns them their cutie mark, right? Why would such a "logical step" in the storyline raise so many questions that shouldn't ever have to be asked? Or better yet, what convinced you that such a step was even logical in the first place? Okay, so maybe it's more about fulfilling his or her destiny. If that's the case, then how was Twilight not promoted when she first discovered the elements' true power? Why instead did it take plagiarizing a spell by Starswirl (who, by the way, should be an alicorn a hundred times over by Magical Mystery Cure's logic) by adding one sentence to the end and calling it hers to achieve royalty? I'm beyond certain that she already created her own magic with the assembly of the Element of Magic. But no! Instead she has to clean up a mess that she started over two seasons later in order to prove she's ready. As you can see, Magical Mystery Cure threw tons of logic out the window with such a thoughtless change. In short, Twilicorn (or should I say, TwiliCORNY) ruins tons of canon. You're missing the point. Twilight had plenty of power already. But adding an extra pair of wings gives her the ability to effortlessly fly around (even in a dress) on top of that, making her that much powerful. She used to seem more unique when she was the only unicorn with such raw abilities. Now that she's not only an alicorn, but also a princess with all the ponies bowing down to her and the like, her being a social outcast and her special abilities being hidden from the average pony are completely destroyed and replaced with "Well, of course she gonna be powerful! She's an alicorn princess, you silly!". It completely ruins the feel of the show. Remember when Twilight struggled to be heard? Remember when the citizens of Ponyville would laugh off whatever she would say? It's completely gone now. And as a result, the show simply isn't as interesting because of this. Now, as "Princess Twilight Sparkle", what she says goes all across Equestria. While you may think that being an alicorn is special, remember that having too many alicorns diminishes their uniqueness and prestige. Back when it was just Celestia and Luna, we thought of them as goddesses in control of all Equestria. Now with twice the amount of alicorns, they feel half as special. So yes, that's just the tip of the iceberg for why she's very overpowered and unoriginal as an alicorn princess. It would be better if they delve more into Twilight's friendships rather than just Twilight herself, seeing as she's been around them for three seasons. But no! Instead, they do the exact opposite and shove her friends aside and bring an unnecessary amount of attention on Twilight alone. Even as the main protagonist, the writers are stressing the whole "show off how superior Twilight Sparkle is" idea way too much. If you don't understand what I mean, Take a look at The Crystal Empire. Here they thrust Twilight into the spotlight by making her take forefront in finding the Crystal Heart. Meanwhile, down on the streets below, Twilight's friends are acting like total goofballs trying to run some Crystal Fair that served only to distract the citizens of the empire for a short time before failing miserably. Even if that's the case, those gigantic, flamboyant wings still look way out of place on Twilight. You're missing my point again. I wasn't so much referring to her location as much as I was referring to the way she no longer fits in with her friends. They all used to have something the others didn't. In that picture I saw six different ponies who shared their own similarities while at the same time having their equal share of differences. They were all the same size, but they had their own personalities. It often showed by the way Twilight would sometimes look to them for help. Twilight having both a horn and wings takes away from the symmetricity of the species of the cast, thus ruining the feeling of evenness with her friends, making them look more like smaller background props for one larger main character rather than all of them being the main characters of the same nature. Just because Twilight is the main protagonist doesn't mean she needs to look set apart from the rest of the characters all the time. Sure, every now and then they can occasionally have extra hints to her being the main character, such as her wielding the main element to help emphasize this, but even those must be used sparingly to avoid redundancy. Changing her physiology to demonstrate this is simply overdoing it and therefore is extremely redundant. For this reason, it's considerably less iconic. One of the biggest strengths in the characters is the ability to recognize or remember them by their basic outline. Take a look at this silhouette. Just by viewing those silhouettes, you can recognize who they are. In the world of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, character design and their simplicity are crucial in forming their own memorable and iconic identities. Twilight Sparkle herself has established herself as a unicorn and is (or should be) adored as such. At this point, she is an iconic figure to this fandom and to the canonical universe. Switching her to an alicorn ruins the balance that made it so easy for people to remember the characters. If you ever got into a situation where you feel like you left out a pony or two, you could always think to yourself "Two earth ponies (Applejack & Pinkie Pie), Two pegasi (Fluttershy & Rainbow Dash), and two unicorns (Rarity & Twilight Sparkle)." Throwing off the balance of the main cast is like Tropicana's failed repackaging project: considerably less recognizable. Not having two of each gives an unfair amount of attention to some characters while leaving others in the dust (three of the main ponies can fly, while the other three can't). Like I've said before, It gives excessive amounts of unnecessary attention to Twilight, where she doesn't need it because she's already the main protagonist. In short, giving the main protagonist extra attention is completely redundant. And because of this, it takes away from the rest of the cast, along with the overall story quality.
  10. That was directed at how off topic and inactive this thread keeps getting. Anyways, some of you should recognize me from COASTER-net. Any ideas why Magic Mountain decided to remove Log Jammer for Full Throttle? Seeing that the coaster's design will be mostly linear, it seems that they could have easily avoided the log ride. Perhaps they though it would save money since they still have Jet stream. It probably does make for a big electric bill to pump all that water all day on two long water rides. Personally, I think if that was their objective, they'd remove Tidal Wave instead, seeing how short the ride is and how unpopular it has gotten over the years. What are your thoughts?
  11. If Twilight is not going to do any royal duties and stay in Ponyvillle with her friends, then why would they make her a princess in the first place? Something big is obviously going to happen in Season 4 or else the whole alicorn transformation would be that much more pointless.
  12. I beg to differ. I think those "pretty princess wings" look out of place on Twilight. Why? Well first of all, I hate the whole Twilight turning into an alicorn idea to begin with. It's racist, cheesy, unnecessarily overpowering, and pointless. I say racist because only unicorns can achieve royalty. I call it cheesy because it ruins tons of long-established canon by making Twilight's "true destiny" nothing more than just becoming yet another alicorn princess (there are now four alicorns where there should only be two). Forget the idea that Twilight was mysteriously powerful and unique, now her strong magical abilities are nothing more than the fact that she's an alicorn. I believe it's unnecessarily overpowering because unless you've been living under a rock, you should have noticed that recently it's been all about Twilight Sparkle: Twilight Sparkle this... ...Twilight Sparkle that... ...Twilight Sparkle... ...Twilight Sparkle... ...Twilight Sparkle. Nevermind that she has friends, it's basically become the "Twilight Sparkle Does Cool Stuff Show". May I remind you that her friends should have a say in this too? They're the real reason behind Twilight's magic. As for the appearance, It feels overdone, to say the least. Let me explain. First off, her new wings are HUGE; at least twice the length of the rest of her body combined.... ....And yet they will simply fold up to be the same size as Fluttershy's. It makes no sense! I know it's a cartoon, but still. Second, it's obvious that the wings were added on later; they bounce up and down akwardly at a totally different rythm from the rest of her (especially when walking). On the same note, the height of her wings will vary slightly. Sometimes they're at her head level, other times they extend much higher. Sometimes they can reach only slightly horizontally, while at other times they triple her body's width. As I have mentioned many times earlier, It ruins her iconic humble caricature; she used to look small and defenseless against enemies. Now with those flamboyant alicorn wings, it makes her seem invincible. It also makes the Mane Six considerably less iconic, with two earth ponies, two pegasi, one unicorn, and a big hunkin' alicorn smack-dab in the middle.
  13. One of the worst things about watching the episode was that deep inside I knew I was supposed to feel proud for Twilight for acheiving such a great accomplishment. But I just couldn't. I simply could not bring myself to liking the idea that my favorite character (whom I could easily identify with) was going all Mary Sue and destroying all the best elements of the show (such as how her friends were the real reason for Twilight's power). Now that she's a pretty perfect pony princess, I can hardly identify with her at all.
  14. A good illustration of why giving Twilight wings will make her overpowered: http://derpicdn.net/thumbs/1900/900/2013/01/30/05_54_20_924_228087__UNOPT__safe_5108b5607f123bf0f9000b6f.jpeg.jpeg

  15. Incoming rant! In that case, Twilight's friends deserve the title of royalty more she does. Don't get me wrong, Twilight is my favorite character, but she wouldn't be anywhere close to where she is had it not been for her friends. Without them, she was [and would still be] stubborn, unfriendly, clueless, and weak. If you watch the flashbacks from Cutie Mark Choronicles, you'll notice that she struggled to do even the simplest of spells (such as turning a page on a book, or breaking open Spike's egg). Now don't go about telling me that her age was the reason behind this. In the same episode, Rarity was seen casually lifting an entire roll of fabric while working a sewing maching at the same time with ease. It wasn't until Twilight saw a sign (the sonic rainboom) from a future friend that she showed her full potential. Until then, even the average unicorn could easily outdo her. The Elements of Harmony were rendered useless until Twilight understood the true meaning of friendship. Again, her friends are to credit for this. The magic of friendship combines all the other elements, Laughter, Honesty, Loyalty, Generosity, and Kindness (none of which Twilight had before she made friends), into the sixth element, Magic. There it is, Twilight Sparkle's true destiny, plain and simple: Magic of freindship, Friendship is Magic! That was as much as they would ever need to explain it! So it only makes sense that the show should continue their focus on the struggles that come with friendship, right? But no! Instead the remaining writers decide to totally screw up this main story arc. Why? I have no idea, seeing how Faust's original message fit in with the story perfectly, and made for good episodes ranging from slice-of-life to adventure and defeating enemies. However, the remaining writers seem to thing that such themes will get old and boring if they don't "spruce it up" every once in a while their "improvements". Don't agree with me? Just take a look at what has been changed since Faust let them run the show. Season 3 is a perfect example of this. Now that they have complete freedom to do as they wish, they feel the the show has "settled down" too much, so they try to make the main cast "more interesting". First came the sub-par season premiere: The Crystal Empire, in which they tried to show how smart Twilight was while making her friends look like total goofballs trying to run some Crystal Fair that served only to distract the citizens of the empire for a short time. Wow aren't they so helpful! Twilight totally didn't take over that episode *rolls eyes*. Next came a considerably better episode: Too Make Pinkie Pies. In this episode they realized that people liked Pinkie being random and breaking the forth wall and the like, so they decided to focus the episode on not one, but thirty three Pinkie Pies (and yes i did the calculation in my head)! Then came One Bad Apple. While I enjoyed this episode as well, I couldn't help but wonder if the writers were thinking "The Cutie Mark Crusaders are getting kinda old. Hey I've got an idea! Let's add another filly to the bunch!". Next was Magic Dual. While It was cool to see Trixie return, the whole fake amulet that was lended from Zecora screamed Deus Ex Machina to me. And as a result, Trixie's return was overshadowed by yet another attempt by the writers to show off Twilight being smart. Wonderbolt Academy is yet another good example. One of the main continuity themes is Rainbow Dash aspiring to meet the Wonderbolts in person (or pony or whatever). So let's have her graduate from the newly introduced academy in one episode! So much for aspiring, seeing that she's already gained favor with them. And if they haven't already established that the Applejack is closely tied to her family, they've got an entire episode for that. As for Fluttershy, she's very kind, so let's make it ten times more obvious by having her redeem Discord! But wait, there's more! The pets needed more attention, so they dedicated a whole episode to Spike trying to prove he's responsible [yet again] by having him petsit all the sidekicks. The worst thing is that a lot of these ideas simply came out of the blue with very little substance or memorable storytelling. Morals were lacking greatly throughout this season with only two letters sent to Celestia. Two letters in thirteen episodes! And last but certainly not least, the epitome of it all! My least favorite episode: Magical Mystery Cure! While already bummed that Twilight Sparkle will now be a pretty perfect pony princess for all the little girls to admire, the episode was still a dissappointment. I was hoping in vain that maybe, just maybe, M.A. Larson and the rest could do their best to make such a forced change somewhat bearable. Boy was I wrong! When the cutie marks were switched, I was hoping for a hilarious mind swap episode. Instead I was enduring a lame and rushed episode in which their "destinies" were scrambled. It is later revealed that Twilight jumped the gun and cast a spell that caused this, thus centering the episode arount Twilight cleaning a mess she caused. Jam-packing it with song after song after song after song after song didn't help either (especially when there's so much singing that the songs cut each other short, causing the characters to sing more than they don't). After all is sorted out, Twilight decides, for some strange reason, to plagiarize Starswirls spell [wich was the source of the problem] by writing down one sentence about the power of friendship. Even though Twilight already knew this, apparently it didn't count until she wrote it down more than two years later. And if that's not cheezy enough, this is apparently what they call "fulfilling her destiny", which, as we should all know, was already fulfilled way back when she first activated the Elements of Harmony; but nevermind that! Great job writers, you officially ruined the show's message with this cheezy perk. And if that's not enough to be upset about, Celestia then goes on to tell (or in this case, sing to) Twilight about how she has "proven that she is ready" to "fulfill her destiny". And voala! Not only is she crowned Princess, but she somehow conveniently transforms into an alicorn, to further portray this "great accomplishment". Total rubbish with very little healthy moral value was the long-awaited finale. I've said it many times before, and I'll say it yet again: Twilight Sparkle doesn't need to be special to be special.
  16. How am I supposed to "step down"? I never intended the title to be an attack on other fans. It was more of a hyperbole. Besides, you've been on this site longer than me, so obviously they'll know you better (and thus vote for you).
  17. I've never known a character who thinks and acts just like I would. Especially in a day and age where being analytical and studious are usually shown in a negative light. I'm not sure if I can say this about most of the other fans. This is mostly due to the fact that a lot Twilight Sparkle fans couldn't be more shallow in their reasons. She's often misportrayed in fan labor, being either stereotypically "nerdy" in some fanfics, while too "normal" in others. It doesn't help that there's so much saucy fanart that radically warps her humble character, which frustrates and me and makes it embarassing to say she's my personal favorite. I wish people could just like her for who she really is, instead of some shallow stereotype. I hope I'm not the only one who feels this way. Feel free to reply, I'll be glad to explain this further. P.S. This is my first post on this site.
