I read Mere Christianity for the first time last year, and I think it's now one of my favorite Christian works. I've long been a fan of C.S. Lewis and knew full well of his beliefs playing a big role in his other books, but this in particular was an excellent collection of insightful thoughts and arguments. It even had me pursue some further research into ethics and theology. Most of all, though, I liked the way Lewis kept the writing straightforward and at times even a little humorous. Made it feel a bit more grounded compared to most other religious texts.

Another quote I recall taking from it:

“When you have reached your own room, be kind to those who have chosen different doors, and to those who are still in the hall.”

Hebrews 13:2: "Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it." :)

I'm so happy for and proud of you buddy. God bless. :)

  2. I mostly just need help in terms of concept rather than a full on design. What I'm trying for is an Earth Pony martial artist.

NAME: I was thinking of calling him "X Belt" X being whatever color he is, similar to Rainbow Dash or Pinkie Pie. Just couldn't think of good colors. "White Belt" seemed too basic, because . . . it's white, it only works for Rarity because it's offset by deep purple and sky blue. And I couldn't think of other colors that were both real belt ranks and would make for good color bases. Or even if "X Belt" is what I should stick with or go with another color.

CUTIE-MARK: This is the big one, I really can't for the life of me think of a good cutie-mark for this guy. A staff wouldn't look like anything except a wooden pole. A sword seems a little too specific. There's abstract swooshes and stars like a cartoon punch effect but I don't know exactly how that would look.

EXTRAS: Just things like clothes or mane style that I don't know if or how they would work.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

That would be so overwhelming. It makes me think about Sunset Shimmer's ability to touch people, having to be a final judge of everyone. Very heavy responsibility.

I want to be able to spit for a whole mile. That seems practical 🤪

Very good point, with points for cited precedence.

  4. I'm not sure if this counts as a "magic" power, but I would love the ability to copy skillsets observed in others. Like, watch someone play a song on the piano and then I can play that song. Or tie a knot. Or do a backflip. Or cook an excellent meal.

As a frustratingly little practiced martial artist, the ability to simply observe forms and techniques and then duplicate that same level of skill would make my dreams come true. Just binge watch Kung Fu movies and demonstrations on Youtube and I could become an expert in a day.

Nobody, but even without this option this would be great! But I think I would make sure to check every dimension before available

Maybe temper those expectations. For all we know, the number of dimensions and worlds could be literally infinite so checking ALL of them would be unfeasible for a human lifetime and terribly wasteful for an immortal life.

I'd like to think that I'm Neutral good, but what I think I am and what others perceive me as are 2 different things.

It's true. Asking what one's alignment is is a little like asking what the back of your head looks like. It's a very top down, objective thing that works a lot better for fictional characters than immeasurably more complex real people. Even the most in-depth Shakesperean character study is going to end up a lot simpler compared to the biography and psychology of basically anyone you know.

Probably Neutral Good. I will say I'm definitely leaning more toward Lawful Good than Chaotic Good. But the law is not always just, because bad people steal their way into positions of power all of the time and twist the law to harm people. I do not respect their laws.

    Same thing I said above:

The thing is, most lawful good characters would agree with you on that. Lawful good, doesn't mean inflexible or dogmatic or can't break a rule EVER! What it means is, consistency, integrity, and believing that a system, any system, exists for a purpose. It doesn't mean the system is perfect, just that a lawful good character sees the good in it. A chaotic character, of any persuasion, sees law, systems, codes, what have you as impediments no matter what.

Expanding on that: If there's a corrupt or harmful ruling. A lawful good character could, and would, champion the cause to reform it. To address the injustice in the system. A chaotic good character would, at worst, say "burn it all down!" But they would do it for a "good" cause, so that makes it okay.

God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say, "We have fellowship with him," while we continue to walk in darkness, we lie and do not act in truth. But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, then we have fellowship with one another,

    -1 John 1:5-7

He made darkness His secret place; His pavilion round about Him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.
    — Psalm 18:11

  10. Jumping back and forth between For Honor and Titanfall 2 with a tiny splash of Spiritfarer. I would really like to play something like Dragon Age, Jade Empire, Fallout 4Dishonored 2, Baldur's Gate III, Star Wars: the Old Republic maybe the remastered Mass Effect if I was willing to stretch my budget, and would LOVE to be back in WoW; but being active duty in the military, I really don't have the time to really commit to the in-depth, narrative rich, role playing games that I adore. The quick to action multiplayer games allow me quick strings of action and satisfactory payoffs.

It feels like the artistic equivalent of exclusively eating fast food.

What kinda hair style, color where you thinking of? Also do you want the coat white?

Either a small top knot or just very short. Maybe with a headband or douli at your discretion. OH! And maybe his tail is wrapped in a long Jet Li style ponytail. At your discretion.

The coat color can be white. Especially since his name kind of demands it, but I'm willing to let you decide on another if you think it would be better. Just so long as it's an earth pony, "earthy" tone color.

Thank you for asking or even considering.

You make a good point there. I know my fear is silly, I guess I should stop worrying about accidentally causing fights or something because it’s not like I plan on fighting about faith myself.

That's like 80% of it. If you're not looking for a fight, one probably won't find you. You can be open about your faith, like I am, and people won't give you crap over it if you sincerely exercise it. As in, you're trying to be a good person. OR you can just keep it to yourself. Let your actions demonstrate your faith.

"Preach the gospel everyday, and sometimes use words."

St. Francis didn't actually say that, but it's good advice nonetheless.

What kinda thing were you looking for?

Trying to make a new ponysona for myself but I can't quite get an image in my head. I have the name "White Belt" (like Pinkie Pie) but I'm not sure if white is the best color. Also can't really settle on a cutie-mark. A fist doesn't really work in context so maybe a Yin-Yang but that also kind of brings in a human world connection with no Equestria context.

To give you some idea though, think, a pony version of Ryu from Street Fighter. (Albeit with a Chinese Kung Fu theme not a Japanese Karate variant one.) He's a martial artist, he loves to fight, but he's not a thug who picks fights because he loves to hurt people. He doesn't even particularly mind if he looses, he just loves to square off with somepony, skill against skill. Which admittedly is quite hard in Equestria since so few ponies distinguish the difference between a bitter brawl and an agreed upon match. Which is why he spends a lot of time outside Equestria or in more out of the way parts of it, a la Daring Do.

I’m not very open about it because I fear backlash/harassment but if I didn’t have that fear, then I would want to be very open

So you'd be more open if you were more open?

I'm not criticizing you, just pointing out how it kind of sounds silly when you spell it out. Not everyone has to wear their faith on their sleeve, after all. Your relationship to God doesn't have to be something public.

  15. Yes with an asterisk. I'm happy season 9 ended as it did. Which is to say, it felt like an actual ending. If the show had gone on to like season 12 or something, I would have been happy with that. Compare it to Ducktales now, which is ending after it's third season when that show clearly had enough juice to keep going beyond that. Whether the ending is good or not (haven't seen it yet) it still feels premature when you can tell the passion for it from both creators and fans was still raging.

Season 9 came at a good ending point for FiM. People keep saying that they didn't want it to run into the Spongebob hole and there's merit to that, but they don't mention enough of the other side of that. If it ended before it really got the space and time to push itself beyond what it started as. I'm glad season 9 was the final season because it wasn't season 2 or 3.

I must say anything Japanese related fell victim of this due to weebs :yuck:

Honestly, they ironically don't seem to touch anything actual historical about them. If it didn't last post-WWII, it's like it doesn't exist to them. They only care about Samurai inasmuch as anime depictions or influence of them. Ask any weeb to actually name a famous historical samurai or even time period (that wasn't name checked in an anime) and chances are they won't know it.

I'm openly Catholic. I have no reason to hide it any more than any other aspect of my life. It means a lot more to me than anything else because it's the basis for living. I may not be a perfect Christian but my faith is making me a stronger, better human being. That's not something I'd care to hide.

None of us are perfect. All we can do is try to live up to God's teachings.
